Santino Marella Talks Change In IMPACT Wrestling Ownership, The Future Of The Company & Redemption PPV

Click:electronic spare parts

Former WWE Superstar, Santino Marella was a recent guest on the Behind The Lights show, which takes place on IMPACT’s Twitch channel, and he answered several questions about the company.

Change in ownership:

“I tell you what, Impact Wrestling, this is such an interesting phenomenon, because they’ve had different incarnations — TNA, Impact Wrestling. Sometimes there’s somebody new at the helm and then people wonder, ‘How is this going to turn out?’ And sometimes, ‘Ah, it’s kinda the same thing, they’re shuffling old guys, whatever, whatever’, and it hasn’t really connected in the past in terms of that renaissance. But this one here there’s a different feeling — again, Scott (D’Amore) at the helm and Don (Callis) — there’s real change. It was getting a reputation in the past of being, ‘Oh they’re just recycling old WWE guys’, you know, hand-me-downs, and that was the reputation they had for a while. Now that’s not the case. Now they’re developing fresh, new talent that’s not… I mean if there’s someone there from WWE that’s fine, but the roster’s not comprised of leftovers anymore. The mentality, the direction they’re going in, it’s very good for the business because you need competition. There was a long time when there was no competition to WWE. Now there’s places to go.”

The future of IMPACT Wrestling:

“For the viewers at home, the pro wrestling universe, enjoy watching this evolution. This is history right now in the making. Back in the day when ECW was growing and there was something happening. You felt it. And it was a legendary moment in wrestling. This is the beginning of another legendary moment in wrestling. So watch it, be a part of it, so you can say, ‘I was there, I was a part of it, I watched it happen’ and I would love to even have my fingerprints just a little bit involved on this evolution’ to say that, ‘We did something great in the professional wrestling business and we became something that could compete with the big juggernaut.’”

IMPACT’S Redemption PPV:

“I thought it was awesome. It solidified the notion of the change of direction for me. It’s funny because to be competition with WWE already means that you’re on the map, you’re on the radar. But you can’t compete with the budget. You can’t compete with the juggernaut marketing machine that they have. But you don’t have to have a massive budget to have that one creative genius especially with the different platforms we have today to be able to get out there. So before it was only TV, and now because of all these different mediums you can compete with TV.”

Monza renames Parabolica in honour of Michele Alboreto

Monza circuit has renamed its famous Parabolica corner ‘Curva Alboreto’ in honour of the late Italian Grand Prix driver.

Michele Alboreto, a five-time winner in Formula 1 in the 1980s, twice with Tyrrell and three times with Ferrari, was tragically killed twenty years ago at the age of 44 while testing for the Audi sportscar team at the Lausitzring.

Monza’s Parabolica – the final long right-hand sweep that leads onto the main straight – is one of motorsport’s most famed corners and will be rechristened during a ceremony that is scheduled to be held on the Saturday of the Italian Grand Prix which will take place later this month.

The ceremony will be held in the presence of family members, including Alboreto’s wife, Nadia, ACI president Angelo Sticchi Damiani and F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali.

Alboreto scored his penultimate podium in Formula 1 at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in 1988, when he finished second to Ferrari teammate Gerhard Berger.

WWE Smackdown Viewership Drops Along with Raw, Posts Lowest Number of the Year

As noted, this week’s WWE Raw hit a new viewership low for 2018, coming on the heels of the critically panned WWE Backlash PPV this past Sunday night.

This week’s WWE Smackdown, which featured more Backlash fallout along with three big Money in the Bank qualifying matches, followed in Raw’s footsteps and saw a sizable drop in viewership.

According to ShowBuzz Daily, this week’s WWE Smackdown viewership averaged 2.293 million, which is down from last week’s 2.436 million viewership average. Last week’s Smackdown featured final Backlash hype along with fallout from the Greatest Royal Rumble event.

This week’s WWE Smackdown was able to top last week’s show as the least watched episode since the October 31st, 2017 broadcast, airing on Halloween night.

This week’s WWE Smackdown ranked #9 in overall cable TV viewership.

Below are several highlight videos from this week’s WWE Smackdown:

Ring of Honor’s Injury Woes Continue as Another Top Star is Pulled From ‘War of the Worlds’ Tour

According to PWInsider.com, former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal has been pulled from tonight’s War of the Worlds event in Royal Oak, Michigan after suffering an undisclosed injury at last night’s event in Toronto.

The problems just keep stacking up for Ring of Honor. It was reported earlier this week that current reigning world champion Dalton Castle was pulled from the tour – which also features several top New Japan Pro Wrestling stars – because of back problems and a potentially broken hand. Flip Gordon, who should be in action tonight and for the remainder of the tour, also missed out on yesterday’s show after having travel issues. The company had to scramble to rearrange several of its matches including the main event.

ROH returns to Chicago tomorrow afternoon for a set of television tapings, and it’s expected that Castle will not be competing, but is on hand for in-ring and backstage segments. Lethal’s status remains unknown, but we’ll keep you posted.

Hulk Hogan Addresses Reports Of A Possible WWE Return, Sends Message to Fans Hurt By Racist Remarks

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan recently spoke with Buffalo News, and below are some interview highlights.

On the racist remarks which got him ousted from WWE:

“Everybody gets knocked down,” he said. “A true champion gets back up and moves forward in a positive way. Nobody ever said life would be fair or you’d always make the right decisions, but through tenacity and a willingness to learn from your mistakes is what I’m all about.”

On fans who were hurt by the comments Hogan made:

“To those few fans who feel (hurt), I’m forever sorry, and I’ll do whatever I can to make them feel comfortable with me.”

“Wrestling fans are some of the most true, loyal fans you can ever meet, and whether you’re in a good situation with your business and personal life, or you slipped on a banana peel and gone through some bad times, the wrestling fans will never turn their back on you,” Hogan said.

On reports of a possible WWE return:

“Until you hit a home run, it’s not a home run,” Hogan said. “All these things say it’s imminent or rumors, that’s like saying ‘maybe, possibly, could be.’ Until I’m back home with the WWE, I’m not home. Hopefully some day I can go back home and be with my family, the wrestlers and all the people I love. I just really, really hope it happens.”

Back on May 4th, following Hogan’s induction into the Boys & Girls Club of America Alumni Hall of Fame, WWE issued the following statement confirming Hogan’s status with the company at that time:

“WWE applauds the work Hulk Hogan is doing with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to turn what was a negative into a positive by helping young people learn from his mistake. While he has taken many steps in the right direction since we parted ways, Hogan is not currently under contract to WWE.”
