Huge SPOILER on Cena/Nakamura Main Event on Smackdown Tonight

Jinder Mahal has been the WWE Champion over on Smackdown ever since May of this year. Despite going up against Randy Orton in three straight pay-per-view matches, Jinder has managed to retain his WWE Championship each time, albeit mostly under dubious circumstances. Now that Orton as champion has been ruled out, it’s been announced that tonight’s Smackdown main event will see a “dream match” featuring John Cena taking on Shinsuke Nakamura for a chance to face the champion at SummerSlam later this month. If you think that John Cena is obviously going to just pin Nakamura and win his seventeenth title at SummerSlam, think again.
Yes, that’s right. According to a last-minute report from PWInsider, it appears that sources indicate that Shinsuke Nakamura is going to be defeating John Cena in tonight’s main event. This will allow Nakamura to earn himself a match for the WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal at the huge pay-per-view event in Brooklyn. Apparently this is the plan for tonight’s match, which has gone against a few past reports that have claimed that Cena would be challenging Mahal for the title at SummerSlam. For whatever reason, it appears that this is no longer (or never was) the plan for the pay-per-view, and “The King of Strong Style” will be going up against Mahal for the title instead.
It does seem a bit strange for Nakamura to receive a title shot this quickly. Due to his All-American persona that he has been portraying on television ever since he returned to WWE, John Cena has seemed like the ideal candidate to defeat Mahal for the title for some time now. Cena even had a brief confrontation with Jinder on last week’s episode of Smackdown. Despite all of this, it appears that Nakamura is currently penciled in to win tonight’s main event. No word on what John Cena will be doing on the SummerSlam pay-per-view later this month has been given just yet. We’ll find out who will challenge for the WWE Championship on Smackdown later tonight.

WWE Champion Jinder Mahal Talks India, Cultural Sensitivity

While on a media tour to promote Summerslam, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal sat down with Yahoo! Sports where he talked about growing up, His WWE release, and cultural sensitivity with his character. Here are some highlights:
What is the state of WWE and wrestling in India right now:
Things are good. Everyone is very proud that I am the WWE champion. We get lots of media coverage almost every week – lots of newspaper and TV coverage. When I made the comeback at the Punjabi Prison, that was huge and the clip went viral. When I won the WWE championship it was all over the news, it’s great. I know WWE just launched the merchandise store over there. The highlight show Sunday Dhamaal, which used to only highlight “Raw,” got moved to a primetime spot and now is highlighting both “Raw” and “SmackDown.”

If cultural sensitivity is something that he and the company think about:
“Yeah, absolutely. I know that’s something that the WWE is very aware of. Not just India, but in any country. We don’t want to upset our fans because that’s not what we are here to do. We are here to entertain and ultimately put smiles on people’s faces. If a situation came about something that would offend someone culturally, I would definitely speak up. WWE would want us to speak up because negative press is not our goal. We are here to expand globally; I know that’s one of the goals of WWE. Getting negative media attention and offending people or a religion would not be good.”
Whether he would rather defend the title in his hometown of Calgary or in India:
“I would say that it would be more special in India. Both would be very, very special, but Calgary already has had a champion with Bret Hart and they already have a rich, established wrestling tradition. Whereas India, yet, isn’t. You know, I would love to take the WWE championship back to India. Nobody has ever taken a WWE championship to India so just to think about the power that I would have to motivate the youth and to inspire a tremendous amount of people there is amazing. Obviously, the WWE universe right now over there is very passionate and I know the response would just be electric. That atmosphere of performing there would be on a whole other level. When WWE went there last time, I wasn’t back with WWE so I missed that. All the WWE superstars tell me that it was one of their favorite events they ever worked. The crowd was just electric from beginning to end.”

Anthrax antibodies detected in blood of North Korean defector, raising biological weapons fears

A North Korean soldier who defected to the South this year is reported to have antibodies linked to the deadly Anthrax infection in his bloodstream, raising fears that the pariah regime may be trying to develop a biological weapon with the disease.

The presence of the antibodies in the unidentified soldier means that he was either exposed to or vaccinated for anthrax, and that he was immune to the bacteria that cause the deadly disease, reported South Korea’s Channel A, according to UPI.

If untreated, anthrax can kill within 24 hours, and about 2,000 people are believed to be infected globally every year.

Despite fears that its hostile neighbour may be using the bacteria for a biological weapons programme, South Korea’s military is yet to secure an anthrax vaccine and is not likely to do so until the end of 2019 said the country’s defence ministry.

It has not been confirmed if the unnamed soldier was Oh Chong Song, 24, who made headlines in November after defecting in a daring dash across the border and being gunned down by colleagues.

Mr Oh came close to death after being shot four times in his bid for freedom and is now recovering in hospital in the South Korean capital, Seoul.

Although little is known about North Korea’s suspected biological weapons programme, the Washington Post reported in early December that US officials are increasingly concerned about the growing threat of biological weapons during a time of heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Analysts believe the pariah regime is moving steadily towards acquiring essential machinery that could potentially be used for advanced biological weapons that could be used against US and South Korean ground troops.

Pyongyang is believed to have experimented with bacterial strains including microbes that cause anthrax, cholera and plague. The threat is viewed as serious enough by the Pentagon to merit vaccinating Korea-bound troops for exposure to anthrax and small pox.

Military planners have reportedly made preparations for US and South Korean aircraft to quickly strike suspected chemical and biological facilities if war breaks out with the North.

AfD politician faces criminal investigation over ‘barbarian Muslim gang-raping hordes’ tweet

A prominent German MP is facing a criminal investigation over a tweet in which she described Muslims as “barbarian, gang-raping hordes”.

Beatrix von Storch of the nationalist Alternative for Germany party (AfD) accused police in Cologne of seeking to “appease” Muslim migrants after they tweeted a New Year message in Arabic.

“What the hell is going on in this country? Why is an official police site tweeting in Arabic? Are they trying to appease the barbarian, Muslim, gang-raping male hordes?” Ms von Storch wrote. Her account was subsequently suspended.

The politician is being investigated under Germany’s strict hate speech laws and could face up to five years in prison if charged and found guilty.

Cologne police said their New Year message contained a link to important public safety information and had been tweeted in several languages in order to reach as wide an audience as possible. In addition to German, it was tweeted in English, French and Arabic.

Where did the AfD get most support?

Ms von Storch’s remarks were a reference to the Cologne New Year sex attacks of two years ago, in which more than 500 women were sexually assaulted in the area around the cathedral and main railway station. The overwhelming majority of suspects in the assaults were migrants of North African origin.

The politician’s Twitter account was temporarily suspended over her tweet. The controversy comes months after Germany introduced new laws under which social media sites face heavy fines if they do not remove posts that contain hate speech.

Ms von Storch later tried to post the same remarks on Facebook, but the social media site blocked the post.

The AfD became the first nationalist party to sit in the German parliament since the 1960s last year after winning 92 seats in September’s elections.

Cologne police said the investigation against Ms von Storch was standard procedure where hate speech was suspected.

“This is a normal procedure and nothing special,” Thomas Held, a police spokesman, said. “If we suspect a criminal offense, we are legally obliged to investigate.”

He defended the police’s decision to post its New Year tweet in several languages. “Our intention is to reach people,” he said. “Some people are wondering about it, but for us it’s a normal way to spread information.”

Michael Douglas accuser goes public with claims he fondled himself in front of her

A woman on Friday publicly accused Oscar-winning actor and producer Michael Douglas of sexual misconduct, saying he had repeatedly harassed her verbally and fondled himself in front of her when she worked for him in the 1980s.

"He thought he was the king of the world, and that he could humiliate me without any repercussions," journalist and author Susan Braudy said on NBC News’ "Today" show.

Douglas, 73, issued pre-emptive denials of the story in articles published over the last two weeks, including one in which he called it a fabrication. His publicist, Allen Burry, said on Friday there would be no further comment.

The allegations against Douglas were the latest in a lengthy series of accusations by women and men who say they were victimized by high-powered men in the entertainment industry. Movie producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Kevin Spacey and comedian Louis CK are among the most prominent men to have been accused.

Braudy, a former executive at Warner Bros studios, worked for Douglas’ production company for three years.

She said Douglas repeatedly used sexual language in conversations and that his behavior escalated during a work meeting at his New York apartment in 1989 where he groped his crotch in front of her.

"He slid down to the floor, unbuckled his belt and put his hands inside his trousers," Braudy told NBC News. "And I could see what he was doing and then he began to fondle himself and I was very scared."

She said she then panicked and ran for the door.

She said in the interview that she had told several friends about the incident soon afterwards but was "terrified" to speak out publicly at the time.

Douglas, in an item published by the Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, called Braudy’s account of an incident at his apartment "an unfortunate and complete fabrication." He acknowledged inappropriate discussions, but challenged Braudy’s claims of a hostile workplace, the publication said.

Last week, in an interview with the entertainment industry website Deadline, Douglas denied masturbating in front of a woman who worked for him about 30 years ago, without further identifying her.

"I felt the need to get ahead of this," he told Deadline. He said he learned in December that multiple publications were investigating the claim.

Douglas, who won an Academy Award for best actor in 1988 and for best picture in 1976, said he supported the #MeToo movement by those breaking their silence over past sexual harassment or misconduct, and that he had the support of his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and his children.

Russell was committed to DTM deal for 2017, until Mercedes call

George Russell has revealed that he was virtually committed to racing in the 2017 DTM series with BMW, until he received a providential call from Mercedes that would put him back on the path to F1.

In 2016, Russell was racing in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with Hitech GP. But a lack of backing for his F1 aspirations encouraged the young Briton to consider an offer to race in the 2017 DTM series with BMW.

Russell was set on joining the competitive German championship, when a call from Mercedes driver development advisor Gwen Lagrue led to a change of plans.

“I’d actually been unofficially the reserve driver for BMW in DTM,” Russell recalled, speaking on F1’s latest Beyond the Grid podcast.

“I did a rookie test with them and that went incredibly well, and I was on the verge of signing a full-time race seat deal with them in the DTM.

“By this point, I’d sort of accepted I didn’t have any backing to help me get to Formula 1.

“At the time, none of the Formula 1 teams were overly interested and I was pretty settled to say, this is DTM.

“It was a huge salary, it’s probably the next best thing to Formula 1 and I was committed to going down that route.”

But out of the blue came Lagrue’s timely call, when Russell was at his parents’ house, soaking in a warm bath!

“One day I was just laying in the bath and I got a phone call from a French guy called Gwen Lagrue.

“He said to me, ‘Hi George… I’ve just started working with Mercedes and you’re the first guy I want to sign.’ And that’s where it started, in the bath back in 2016!

“The conversations were ongoing, I signed a contract that started in 2016, and officially became a driver at the start of 2017.”

Armed with the backing of Mercedes, Russell won the GP3 Series title with ART Grand Prix in 2017, before graduating to Formula 2 with the French outfit in 2018 and winning another title, successive feats that paved the way for his entry into F1 with Williams in 2019.
