NEVER OPENWEIGHT 6-MAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP #1 CONTENDER’S GAUNTLET MATCH
Two teams will start this gauntlet off, and compete in a six-man tag team match. The next team will face the winner, and so on and so forth until a winner is decided. The winners will receive a future title match at Bullet Club’s NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championships.
MATCH #1 — YUJI NAGATA, JEFF COBB & DAVID FINLAY vs. MARTY SCURLL, HANGMAN PAGE & YUJIRO TAKAHASHI
Scurll went after Nagata’s fingers early on and threatened to break them, but the third gen legend fought back and put him in the Figure Four. It didn’t take long for an all-out brawl to break down. Hangman hit his Shooting Star Headbutt off the apron to the outside during all the chaos. Cobb had to fight off all three guys but eventually the numbers game was too much. Hangman did his rolling lariat through the ropes, went for it again and got caught out of the air by Cobb into a huge slam. Takahashi in with a series of low dropkicks, into a Fisherman’s Buster, but still they can’t put the big man away. In the end Chase Owens got involved in the match trying to steal it for his teammates, but Hangman got in his face and Finlay rolled him up with a small package to win.
MATCH #2 — YUJI NAGATA, JEFF COBB & DAVID FINLAY vs. HIROOKI GOTO, CHUCK TAYLOR & TRENT BARRETTA
Lots of dives from the start. Chuck did a great suicide dive to take out Cobb and Finlay, followed by Barretta with the tope con hilo to take everyone out. Back in the ring Goto delivered the Yushigoroshi to Nagata, but couldn’t score the three. CHAOS put the boots to Nagata for several minutes, slowing things down. Eventually the crowd got behind Blue Justice and he fired up, throwing the Besties with overhead suplexes before making the hot tag to Cobb, who immediately began tossing everyone around. Chuck cleared the ring and dropped Finlay with a piledriver, but Nagata made the save at the last second. They all beat up on Chuck and Finlay rolled him up out of nowhere, stacking him up to steal another fall.
MATCH #3 — YUJI NAGATA, JEFF COBB & DAVID FINLAY vs. MINORU SUZUKI & THE KILLER ELITE SQUAD
Minoru and Nagata immediately started slapping each other in the face, back and forth as the bell rang. They ended up brawling to the outside and fought all around ringside, as Minoru bashed him with a chair, and Nagata no-sold it like a brick wall. Cobb and Davey Boy tossed each other around in the ring with monstrous suplexes, and in quick fashion, the Killer Elite Squad caught an exhausted Finlay with the Killer Elite Bomb. 1-2-3.
MATCH #4 — MINORU SUZUKI & THE KILLER ELITE SQUAD vs. RYUSUKE TAGUCHI, TORU YANO & TOGI MAKABE
Suzuki-Gun attacked before the match could start, and announcer Kevin Kelly got shoved from his chair in all the chaos. Taguchi got ragdolled and missed several attacks with his butt, before Makabe mercifully tagged in and went to work on everybody with wild right hands and elbow strikes. Minoru fired right back and mauled the Unchained Gorilla with numerous shots to the face, nearly knocking him out cold, until Makabe hulked up and cleared the ring. Yano made the tag and tried to attack Davey Boy with a removed turnbuckle pad, but missed badly. KES hit him with a double team chokeslam, but Yano kicked out and they took out their anger on the referee, shoving him out of the ring. Makabe cleaned house but nearly got caught in the Gotch Piledriver, until Taguchi broke it up with his butt. Yano hit a low blow on both members of KES and rolled up Davey, scoring the final win.
Winners: Ryusuke Taguchi, Toru Yano & Togi Makabe
