Paul Heyman Blasts WWE For The Jeff Hardy Hospitalization Storyline

Paul Heyman has posted an article at the UK Sun website commenting on WWE’s “ill-conceived” Jeff Hardy hospitalization storyline over the weekend, which he says is downright bad for business.

After stating that it would be “rather hypocritical” for him to point fingers about whether a storyline crossed any lines, Heyman asks, “What was so wrong about the storyline? Was it that WWE has blurred the line on its own in-house website, which is where news like Eddie Guerrero’s death or the Chris Benoit family tragedy has been first broken? Was it the eerie feeling some people had on the morning of a big show, hearing about a top star being found unconscious in a hotel, invoking memories of Eddie and even Brian Pillman? We’re back to the issue of ‘taste'”

Heyman adds, “For some people, the manner in which WWE presented this storyline twist was just revolting. The callous view taken by WWE chairman Vince McMahon and those around him, not even taking into account how brazenly insensitive this storyline may be viewed, is yet another in a long line of demonstrations by McMahon that getting people talking is paramount.”

Heyman continues to discuss the other reasons WWE simply viewed as “low brow” entertainment and unable to secure coveted advertising partners. You can read the entire piece at TheSun.co.uk.

Will William Regal Appear On Raw Tonight?, Maryse's French TKO, New WWE Signee

sources: PWInsider.com, Wrestling Observer Newsletter

— The word among the wrestlers is that WWE Intercontinental champion William Regal would miss this week’s show due to his recent illness, but he arrived this morning in Philadelphia and is backstage at Raw. Regal wasn’t on a scheduled flight last night with other talent coming in from the Georgia area as was originally planned. Regal did not appear on last week’s show due to the illness.

— WWE has signed Michael Hutter to a developmental contract. He was in Ohio Valley Wrestling sometime last year, but had to return to his home in Ohio after tearing his ACL. Hutter will be moving to Florida. You can see his photo at the following link, which should probably explain this unknown’s signing.

— SmackDown Diva Maryse has a blog asking fans what they think of her new finishing maneuver – a heel kick – which she is calling the “french tk0” (although properly spelled as “French TKO”). Maryse wrote in her trademark broken English: “I would love to hear what my fans think of my new move ( french tk0) ….. remember that kick that Beth Pheonix got behind the head at Survivor series, yes it was me performing my amazing kick! I cant wait to face Michelle Mc cool and give her a taste of my french tk0…. stay tune.” {french tk0}

Go to http://prowrestlingevents.tk or http://prowrestlingevents.webs.com for info about upcoming wrestling shows worldwide. (Thanks to Devin Cutting)

— SmackDown Diva Natalya spoke out to the The Calgary Herald in an article posted yesterday. She says entering the wrestling world was a natural thing to do considering she grew up around it. “I’ve been surrounded by it my entire life,” Natalya said. “I’m the only female in the family to get into wrestling. It just seemed the natural thing to do. I was very athletic and had a flair for drama.” Stu Hart observed her training just before he passed away in 2003. “He’d come down and watch me training in the Dungeon,” Natalya recalled. “He took my training seriously and I appreciated his support. He believed in me. His mentality was, if you do something with passion, you’ll never work a day in your life. He got to do it his way with a positive attitude. Everything he was about, he passed it onto us and we wouldn’t be the people we are today if not for him.” Natalya also feels honored to be ranked in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s “PWI Female 50,” which ranks the top 50 U.S. women’s wrestlers. “At the beginning of my career, to be ranked No. 19 in the entire world . . . Shawn Daivari Criticizes Waxman Report On Steroids In Professional Wrestling

In Henry Waxman’s report regarding the steroid problem in professional wrestling released three weeks ago, it was revealed that fifteen of the sixty TNA wrestlers who were tested for drugs in January 2008 tested positive for steroids. Additionally, eleven other TNA wrestlers tested positive for various other drugs, so it can be concluded that 43% of the roster were on drugs last January.

A few days after the report, TNA wrestler Sheik Abdul Bashir (Shawn Daivari), posted a blog on his official website, www.ShawnDaivari.com, criticizing Waxman’s findings.

“I don’t mind someone being able to approach congress to see if an issue is able to be investigated. That’s the purpose of this country. What bothers me is for the average person who isn’t in the know of this industry, it paints a bad picture of pro-wrestling whilst leaving every other form of entertainment to be,” Daivari wrote. “Wrestling is part of the entertainment industry. Like music, movies, TV, sports, books etc. etc. etc. When ever someone like a Henry Waxman says there’s a problem with drug use in wrestling (he thinks) a more fair statement would be there is drug use in the entertainment industry.

Whenever the media racks up these “huge” lists of people that have died in the wrestling industry over the last years, they never compare it to the number of deaths in music. The number of deaths in Hollywood. In that vein we are usually the smaller percentile, or at least in the same ball park.”

Daivari then jumps into the debate of “use vs. abuse” regarding steroids. Daivari compares steroids to cocaine and LSD, saying steroids have medical properties that are beneficial to the person, so a doctor can prescribe them, whereas a doctor can’t prescribe cocaine or LSD because they have no proven medical value.

Regarding steroids, Daivari wrote: “There was an anti-inflamitory prescription medication on the market called Vioxx about 5 years ago. It was a very effective drug that in some cases had a side effect of causing heart failure. With tons of studies done, and the comparison of number of heart failures with use compared to the number of successfull trials, and the number of heart failure with abuse compared to the number of successfull trials, the FDA found it more often then not with use and abuse to cause to much damage to the human body to make it prescribeable and the drug was eliminated. I think people are uneducated as to what anabolic steroids are. Anabolic steroids are synthetic hormones. Birth control is a steroid. Some antidepressant drugs are steroids. More often then not, again in cases of USE and not ABUSE they have medical properties that are beneficial to the person prescribed the drug. That is why a doctor can not per scribe cocaine, or LSD. Because they have no proven medical value.”

Daivari then says the drug programs of the biggest wrestling companies in the United States are on par with those of the National Football League and the International Olympic Committee.

“If synthetic hormone causes the damage that Henry Waxman feels it does, his letter should ask congress to have synthetic hormones removed from the market by the FDA. He has his right to his opinion. If that is how he feels, then he should have his freedom to speak on the matter,” Daivari wrote. “But to go on a witch hunt against pro-wrestling is preposterous and probably won’t go anywhere when both of the biggest wrestling companies in the USA have GOOD drug policies that hold up just as well as the NFL’s drug policy and even the Olympics drug policy.”

Daivari then goes into the benefits of Human Growth Hormone — which is not an anabolic steroid but has similar effects. HGH is banned by World Wrestling Entertainment, the International Olympic Committee, and the National Football League, among other sports associations. Here is what Daivari wrote regarding HGH:

“It seems like you cannot go a month without hearing a pro athlete, be it hockey, football, pro-wrestling, etc. going ahead and tearing a muscle clear of the bone/tendon while they’re working. 95% of any orthopedic surgeons will prescribe Human Growth Hormone (a synthetic hormone i.e. a steroid) to co-inside with rehabilitation. Human Growth Hormone helps the body regenerate tissue. It creates more red blood cells. These are attributes with use that show it’s medical value. Nandrolone-Deconate is another synthetic hormone that doctors like to prescribe after reattaching torn anatomy. It causes the body to go into a positive nitrogen balance which allows the body assimilate more protein, which every one knows, is the building blocks of repairing damaged tissue.

So of these crazy percentages that Mr. Waxman likes to present to congress, does he take into consideration the number of “positive” wrestlers that have had reconstructive surgery in he last 3-18 months of testing? The number of legally in the USA, under the guidelines of the FDA, prescribed synthetic hormones BY MEDICAL DOCTORS? No. He doesn’t. Because as I said earlier he is on a witch hunt. Am I saying that EVERYONE is innocent, and using drugs within the guidelines of doctor or FDA approval? No. We know that’s typically not the case. But is there any way that I believe 70+ percent of the locker room is drug abusing addict? Also no.”

— On Madusa’s official website, Madusa.com, the three-time WWF Women’s Champion (as “Alundra Blayze”) is asked if she’ll be appearing in the 25-Diva battle royal at WrestleMania XXV considering that a number of other names from the past have been approached for the match. A) well anything to do with pro wrestling is part of my past and very proud of it. i gained high respect the day Vince came forward and made it public and stopped insulting the fans and told every one that it was sports entertainment. that is the day he became a billionaire. the shows got better, talent got sexier and soft porn, not sure if that was a plus however the woman today are more beautiful than ever!
not at this time have i been in contact but there sure seems to be alot of rumours floating around about that and enducting me in the hall of fame.

— On last night’s edition of ECW on Sci Fi, Charlie Haas made a return of his own. Prior to last night’s appearance during the Tri-Branded Money in the Bank Qualifying Battle Royal, he had not wrestled on television since the December 29, 2008 edition of Raw when he lost to Sim Snuka.

Ilott rounds off week of testing for Ferrari

Last but not least, Callum Ilott rounded off Ferrari’s massive week of testing at Fiorano that saw seven drivers take to the track onboard the Scuderia’s 2018 SF71H car.

Ilott took over from his former F2 rival Mick Schumacher on Friday afternoon, reacquainting himself with the same machine he sampled back in September during Ferrari’s ‘Road to F1’ test in which Schumacher and fellow FDA member Robert Shartzman also took part.

Ilott will unfortunately spend 2021 on the sidleines but the 22-year-old will nevertheless fulfill the role of test driver for Ferrari this year.

At the conclusion of the five-day test at Fiorano, Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies was delighted with everyone’s performance and ability to prepare for the season ahead.

“Seven drivers on track over the five days, covering more than 1500 kilometres between them made for a really busy week for the team at Fiorano,” said Mekies.

“The most important aspect of the test was to give the Scuderia official race drivers, Charles and Carlos, the opportunity to get back into the swing of driving again after the winter break.

“For the FDA guys it was another opportunity to experience driving a Formula 1 car. For Carlos and Marcus the test was also a “first”, as the Spaniard’s was making his debut with his new team and the New Zealander was experiencing a Formula 1 car for the first time.

“For Giuliano [Alesi], the test represented a farewell gift, as his time with the FDA has come to an end. I think the best thing about the week was the atmosphere in the garage at our home track, with all the guys really happy to be back on track, to prepare as well as possible for the upcoming season.”
