Samuel Shaw On His TNA Release, Rumors Of Pay Issues In TNA & More

The following are highlights of a new interview with Samuel Shaw:

On his release from TNA: “I wasn’t too surprised to be perfectly honest. I had sort have been on the shelf not really doing anything for quite some time and I was extremely ready to get back on TV, just busting my ass in the gym and being a student of the game and pitching ideas like crazy. Just doing everything I could to get in front of the right people and get back on TV. Things just didn’t pan out the way that I thought they might, I’m not heartbroken over it whatsoever, I’m excited about the future and I think that there are a lot of great opportunities out there right now for someone like myself.”

On how he found out he was let go: “I got a call from John Gaburick or “Big” as everyone calls him and we had a nice conversation and he was responsible for getting this character for me off the ground and he had a lot of faith in me to run with a character like that and I give him a lot of credit for that. We had a nice conversation, he just told me that in all honesty that “we have two hours of TV a week and we have so much talent on the roster” and said he felt bad just keeping me off TV and wanted to give me the freedom to get out there and use my talents and I think that was a very nice thing of him to do.”

On what is it about TNA that causes the abrupt end to storylines: “I just feel like TNA in a sense has an identity crisis. Since I signed there in 2012 and not to mention that I’ve been doing stuff with them since 2008 because I trained at Bubba and D-Von’s School in Kissimmee, Florida and that is basically in TNA’s backyard with Universal Studios and The Impact Zone. I’ve seen the place change so much and it seems like they have a lot of momentum going into a new regime change and then it just sort of fizzles out and they not so much drop the ball but they really know how to start something that looks like it has longevity and is going to be great and it just seems like they don’t know where to go from that point. They get to a high point and it just fizzles out.”

On if Samuel Shaw was booked into a corner: “I was pitching ideas left and right. I feel that maybe coming in and having such a strong presence as the character I was portraying it may have put me up against the wall from a creative sense, I was known as the “creepy bastard” and just the “creepy guy”. What was he going to do just creep on the knockouts and move on to the next one? It’s basically what a psycho does just repeats the same thing over and over again but I think there were so many different directions the character could have gone and I feel like there was so much longevity to the character and in a lot of ways the writers did too and that’s why they kept me around for so long. They just didn’t have anything at the moment and they kept signing new guys and new talent was coming in and they were ready to move forward with other guys and I was sort of sitting at home not doing anything but was ready, willing and able to do something.”

On if he experienced any pay issues: “I never put all my eggs into one basket and I’ve always had other little things going on. I didn’t really pay attention to when my checks got to me. I was just staying busy and not trying to worry myself to death over little things like that. But I never had a case where I did not get paid. I don’t think my checks were very late whatsoever and they have never not paid me.”

On how was he approached with the Samuel Shaw character: “‘Big’ approached me about doing somewhat of an “American Psycho ” gimmick and I was very receptive to that because that is one of my favorite movies of all time, Directed by Mary Harron, and Christian Bale is phenomenal in the movie and as luck would have it it’s just a movie I would gravitate towards. Not to mention the Dexter element, that is just a tremendous TV show that I’ve enjoyed tremendously and sort of taking elements from both of those; the movie and the TV show and putting it in a wrestling related environment was going to be a challenge but I think it had a pretty big impact initially and there was so much more that we could have done with this character. To be honest, I don’t think I’m done with this character, my creative juices are flowing now more than ever before.”

HUGE Backstage Update On Beef Between RODDY PIPER & STEVE AUSTIN~!!

Backstage TNA News: Contracts Being Changed, Talent Planning To Quit?

A significant number of TNA Wrestling performers have been informed recently that their current contracts with the promotion will be dropped in the near future. The contracts generally include a monthly guarantee on pay, however TNA is going to be offering to replace them with per-appearance deals.

TNA used to pay talents a guaranteed monthly fee and then paid them a per appearance fee as well. In some cases, TNA will now be paying talents a little bit more per appearance than they were already making, with the idea being that it will make up for the loss of having guaranteed pay. If TNA increases their schedule to include more dates, talents could actually end up making even more money than they were making originally.

Despite the attempt at having a positive spin, many of the talents in TNA right now are not pleased with the changes. In fact, it’s possible that some talents may turn down the offers and wrap up their run with the promotion.

It should be pointed out that while most of the contracts will be changed to this new formula, some high-profile talents, such as Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy, may remain under guaranteed deals.

Natalya Training With UFC Star, Helping Four Horsewomen With Pro Wrestling

WWE Diva Natalya has been in Los Angeles, California recently doing some training with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett in catch-wrestling, as well as helping some of the Four Horsewomen get ready for pro wrestling matches.

Natalya, real name Nattie Neidhart, has also trained many times in the past with The Four Horsewomen — Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir and Ronda Rousey, with the idea being that she is learning legitimate submissions and catch-wrestling techniques that will help her in her professional wrestling matches. She also feels it is one of the best conditioning workouts you can do.

In return, the cast member of the WWE Total Divas reality show on E! has helped some of the Four Horsewomen with pro wrestling theories and techniques, as Baszler is doing her first pro wrestling singles match next month, Duke and Shafir are also studying pro wrestling, and of course, Ronda Rousey is rumored to be working with WWE again next year around WrestleMania time.

Hogan Blames Gawker For Leaking N-Word Story, Wants Them Arrested

According to TMZ, former WWE Superstar Hulk Hogan is now blaming Gawker for leaking the information that led to him having his contract with the WWE terminated.

Hogan is reportedly blaming Gawker’s Nick Denton for leaking the story in an attempt to ruin the $100 million case he currently has against them and believes Denton should be thrown in jail.

The former WWE Superstar has reportedly filed new court documents in his sex tape lawsuit against Gawker and has asked for a full investigation to be launched.

He hopes this will prove that Denton and former executive A.J. Daulerio had leaked confidential information from not only the sex tape video – but also the ‘N’ word story.

Gawker have since released a short statement of their own to TMZ which denies that they had any role in the leaking of this information, it reads:

“Hulk Hogan has only one person to blame for what he said and no one from Gawker had any role in leaking that information.”
– Gawker’s President and general counsel Heather Dietrick.

Rey Mysterio On Being Booed At Royal Rumble, TripleMania, Myzteziz, More

The following are highlights of a new Ring Rust Radio interview with Rey Mysterio:

On his upcoming TripleMania XXIII match against Myzteziz (Sin Cara): “Well that match between us is going to a legacy defining match. There is a lot of animosity and egos that are going to come into play that night. I have to point out that this match was made for the fans by the fans. The fans were the number one critiques on who is better? Rey Mysterio or Myzteziz. At one point I left Mexico to continue my career globally and a new star came about. He is known now as Myzteziz, but back then he was known as Mistico and then Sin Cara when he joined WWE. I would have to say the fans in their eyes see a lot of similarities between us. We even tagged at one point in the WWE and now here we are against each other thanks to the fans.”

On rumors about his WWE departure: “The initial meeting in Buffalo went well. Both parties, they agreed to continue to move forward on the Rey Mysterio brand. There was no rumors, no animosity, no bad feelings between us. I feel like resigning with the company due to the fact that I had a large amount of injuries on my body. That was the number one reason why I was on the bench so long. So when it came around to resigning, they were ok with me wanting to depart and do my own thing. There was no hard feelings and we departed in an amicable way. It was my time to think for myself and act upon myself and that was the best thing I had done for myself in years. I have had time to rest and my body feels a thousand times better. I’m calling my own shots and doing things I have never been able to do in my career. I never had the freedom to do them but now I do.”

On if he’s willing to return to WWE: “Yes of course. I think that’s what every wrestler would want, there’s nothing better than dictating your own future and not over working your body. You can’t keep running on fumes constantly when you are older. You don’t see the same Rey Mysterio you see when I was 25 years old. I think it’s good to understand from both ends that I can’t deliver the way I used to when I first signed with the WWE. To make sure talent last, you have to take care of it.”

On being booed at the 2014 WWE Royal Rumble: “No hard feelings at all. One thing I have learned through the years is I have never been political about certain things and I take things lightly through my whole life. At the moment, I couldn’t believe or understand what was going on. After the match I was able to sit down and digest what was going on, and sure enough it was the fact that the fans weren’t given what they wanted. At one point I remember talking to Konnan about it, thinking if they would of let me walk down to the ring, then when the fans were booing, let me go back into gorilla and give my spot to Daniel Bryan to be number 30.”
