Deonna Purrazzo Pulled From "All In," Cody Rhodes & Purrazzo Comment

It looks like one less person will be “All In” on September 1st.

The news broke this week that Deonna Purrazzo has been pulled from the show, which goes down from the Sears Center Arena in Chicago, Illinois. Cody Rhodes confirmed the news via Twitter when responding to a fan who wanted to see Purrazzo vs. Alexia Nicole.

“Deonna is unable to do All In,” wrote Rhodes in response to the fan. “We love her. She’s phenomenal. She’s kicking ass/breaking arms no matter where you see her.”

Purrazzo later checked in via Twitter herself, commenting on the news.

“It’s been incredible to see first hand what Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, & Cody Rhodews envision for pro wrestling,” wrote Purrazzo. “I am so sad I won’t be wrestling at #AllIn, but my heart will be there September 1st.”

Vietnamese designer bringing traditional flare to modern day fashion

Made from delicate silk, intricately
embroidered and with vast, flared sleeves: Vietnamese 19th-century outfits do
not seem a perfect fit for life in the country’s hectic modern cities.

But Nguyen Duc Loc, a 28-year-old entrepreneur, together with his 11-strong
production team in Hanoi, is convinced the attire of their ancestors can make
a return to modern-day living.

“My ambition is that in any Vietnamese wardrobe, as well as suits,
trousers, dresses, there will be at least one outfit based on an ancient style
to wear on important occasions,” like festivals and weddings, he told AFP.

Based on his own research, Loc and his company Y Van Hien reproduce outfits
largely from the Nguyen dynasty that spanned close to a century and a half
from 1802 — a time when the ruling class wore extravagant, brightly coloured
designs embellished with symbols of power, such as dragons.

He wants everyone, both men and women, to appreciate the “astonishing
beauty” of ancient imperial-style dress, he says, and understand the part this
clothing plays in Vietnam’s cultural history.

In one of their first major commissions, Y Van Hien was asked to produce
costumes for Phuong Khau, an 18-episode YouTube drama about the emperor and
empress of the Nguyen Dynasty.

The company — which was set up in 2018 — has also designed costumes for
singers, music videos and fashion shows.

Preserving culture

Despite some criticism that the designs have strayed too far from the
originals, they are also seeing a growing interest among young people.

Many choose to rent an outfit for a photoshoot, with prices starting at $17.

“I think ancient-style costumes… are part of Vietnamese culture that we
need to preserve,” said Pham Trang Nhung, a 22-year-old student who had come
to see Loc’s designs.

“I think young people today know more about Western dress.”

Blossoming curiosity over outfits worn by generations past comes as
officials from the sports and culture department in the central province of
Thua Thien-Hue began wearing the traditional “ao dai” — a long tunic worn
over trousers — one day a month as a way to promote and preserve cultural
values.

Although a far more comfortable and modern prospect than royal 19th-century
clothing, some say they are too restrictive and impractical in today’s world.

Nevertheless, a simplified version of a woman’s ao dai still forms part of
some school uniforms in the south and central regions, is worn by flight
attendants on flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and is embraced by many on special
occasions.

Social media shows plenty of pictures of young women posing in traditional
dress — and with more than a dozen Facebook groups catering to those
interested in ancient designs, some aficionados have even banded together to
create a rival design company to Loc’s.

Nguyen Duc Binh, an editor of an arts magazine and an expert on traditional
culture, said the attraction among the young stems from a desire to assert
themselves, and their pride in their country, in a similar way to the youth of
other Asian nations.

“In some more developed countries such as Japan and South Korea,
traditional costumes can be seen as icons for the young people to look at,” he
said.

Young Vietnamese “admire those countries’ development” and “they have tried
to find some traditional things” from their own country’s past to celebrate.(AFP)

News on Next Week's Superstar Shake-Up; Rumors on Rusev's Status (Updated)

— Next Monday and Tuesday, WWE will hold what looks to be the annual Superstar Shake-Up. For what it’s worth, WWE is not holding a Monday Smackdown house show as usual, which means that everyone will be backstage at Monday’s Raw. Not only does this mean that virtually every wrestler is a possibility to switch brands, but also the talent themselves don’t even know yet who will be moving or who will be staying.

— A recent online report suggested that the reason WWE inserted Rusev into the fatal four way for the US Title at WrestleMania was to appease him due to the fact that he supposedly asked for his release. According to Dave Meltzer on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio that report was very likely untrue, however, late on Thursday after earlier being removed from the casket match against Undertaker, Rusev changed both his Instagram and Twitter pages (removing his name) and also added an email address for booking information. These changes seem to suggest he is no longer with WWE, but neither party has made any public statements so it’s anyone guess what’s going on.

WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino Passes Away at Age 82

— WWE is reporting that Hall of Famer and legend Bruno Sammartino has passed away at the age of 82. Exact details of his death are unknown but CBS Pittsburgh indicated that “he died peacefully after battling health issues for the past several months” and he was reportedly recently hospitalized as well.

Update on Paul Heyman & Shane McMahon's Status for WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

— Contrary to an earlier report by Mike Johnson at pwinsider.com which indicated that Paul Heyman would not be traveling with the rest of the roster to Saudi Arabia and as such would not be appearing at the Greatest Royal Rumble event on Friday, Dave Meltzer of f4wonline.com is reporting that Heyman is actually scheduled for the event.

— Also to clarify a previous report/rumor that suggested Shane McMahon may miss the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble, WWE confirmed that he will be there and will compete in the match, consistent with the advertising they have been putting out there.

Backstage News on Why WWE Brought in Inexperienced Sumo Wrestler for GRR

— The reason WWE brought in the sumo wrestler – Hiroki Sumi – for the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble has a bit of a funny/bizarre back story to it. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the Prince of Saudi Arabia – who wanted the show to begin with – gave Vince McMahon a list of wrestlers that he wanted to see on the show when the two sides were negotiating.

— While he listed a bunch of names, the key names he wanted on the show were The Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker and Yokozuna. Because Yokozuna (and Warrior) have been dead for a long time, the word going around backstage was that Vince felt “compelled” to bring in someone who looked sort of like Yokozuna to appease the Prince.

Fantasy Tournament Semifinal Match: Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs. The Undertaker

Note: The following is written by my son, who has been asking me to run this tournament for a few months. Well, I finally caved in so here it is below. I sort of let him have at it but assisted with some of the details such as creating the poll and helping him post it on the site, but the rest is all him. If there’s anything you hate about it, he’s a ten-year old kid who is having some fun. Thanks.

Hi guys, I’m back but this time I won’t write a column. I will do something different! I thought it would be cool to do a fantasy tournament with wrestlers from the past vs. present wrestlers. So I have thought of some top 16 wrestlers from the past and some top 16 present wrestlers. The way it will work is my Dad will put a poll for you guys to vote, every few days another match will be posted, so make sure you look out for the matches! And then at the end there will be one winner!

The way that the matches were determined was by pulling names out of a hat, I put the 16 present wrestlers in one hat and the 16 old wrestlers in another hat and then pulled one from both hats to have the matchup.

When all the first 16 matches have happened, I will put all the names back into a hat and make new matches!

Here are the wrestlers that I chose to include in this tournament. I might have missed some good wrestlers that you might have picked instead, but I just picked the ones that I thought were the best!

John Cena, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, The Miz, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kane and Randy Orton.

Eddie Guerrero, Ultimate Warrior, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Macho Man Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Daniel Bryan, Andre the Giant, Goldberg, CM Punk, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Bret Hart, Triple H, Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan. Update: I took out Batista and put in Kurt Angle because I forgot all about him!

Please vote on who you think would win if they wrestled when each was his best level.

Thanks! Please follow me on Instagram at @wwesujal or you can email me at [email protected]

Hulk Hogan Comments On A Possible Return To WWE, Ronda Rousey, nWo

Hulk Hogan recently spoke with the Miami Herald to discuss his induction into the Boys and Girls Clubs of America Hall of Fame in San Diego, California. During the interview, he also discussed a potential return to WWE, the nWo changing the wrestling business, Ronda Rousey, and more. You can check out some highlights below:

On Ronda Rousey and her connection to the late Roddy “Rowdy” Piper: “I think it was a really, really cool situation that Ronda went to Piper first, out of respect, and asked Roddy, if she could use his name. Piper was grateful that she was asking, and he was just overwhelmed that she would want to represent it on that level.”

On a possible WWE return: “Well, never say never. That would be a dream come true for me to go back home. I started many, many years ago in 1977, 78 for Vince McMahon Sr., and I’ve been back-and-forth several times. So I’d like to go back one last time and stay there and never leave home again.”

On the nWo changing the pro wrestling business: “The nWo — Hogan, Hall and Nash — kind of like changed wrestling and kind of like made a pivot, where everybody used to cheer for the good guys, and we kind of made it cool to cheer for the bad guys. So, the way we changed wrestling’s history and the course of the train of thought that the fans have now, I think is attributed a lot to the nWo’s reign of terror. I think the nWo — definitely the three original founding members — deserves a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame.”

Former WWE Superstar Victim Of Savage Beating Following Dispute Outside His Home

A former WWE wrestler was the victim of what has been described as a savage beating following an argument over a parking spot.

Tom Magee, 60, a former powerlifter who started his WWE career in 1986, argued with as many as six men over a parking spot, according to a report by CBSLocal.com.

The report states that the argument led to a fight where the six men reportedly broke Magee’s jaw, orbital bones and gave him a concussion.

“To me it was attempted murder,” said a neighbor who witnessed the assault. “If we wouldn’t have come out here I don’t knbow if he would be alive. To look at his face if you saw his face right now and saw what they were doing to him, he’s really lucky to be alive.”

As a result of the incident, police have arrested two 20-year-old men with charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
