Shots fired at US embassy in Turkey amid escalating row between Nato allies

Several gunshots were fired at the US embassy in Ankara from a vehicle on Monday, amid rising tensions between Turkey and Washington.

An unidentified assailant or assailants fired six bullets at an embassy security gate from a passing white vehicle around 5.30am local time, three bullets hitting an iron door and a window, the Ankara governor’s office said in a statement.

The early morning attack coincided with a deepening row between the two countries over the trial of a US pastor in Turkey.

The embassy is closed this week for a public holiday to mark the Islamic Eid al-Adha festival.

The attack on the embassy in the Turkish capital was a clear attempt to "create chaos", the spokesman for President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, condemning the early morning drive-by attack.

David Gainer, the embassy spokesman said: "We can confirm a security incident took place at the US embassy early this morning.

"We have no reports of any injuries and we are investigating the details. We thank the Turkish National Police for their rapid response."

Video footage from broadcaster Haberturk showed police teams inspecting one of the entrances to the embassy and apparent damage caused by a gunshot could be seen in one window.

President Erdogan greets the crowd during a symposium at the ATO Congresium Hall in Ankara, Turkey on August 14th

It said empty cartridges were found at the scene. President Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman condemned the attack on Twitter and said the incident is being investigated.

"This is a clear attempt to create chaos," spokesman Ibarahim Kalin said. "Turkey is a safe country and all foreign missions are under the guarantee of the laws."

The US Embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul have in the past been the targets of attacks by militants and have faced numerous security threats.

Johnnies Set for Five Duals in Three Days, Host St. Olaf Friday Night

Click:laser cnc cutting machine

The Johnnie wrestling team hosts its first dual of the 2014-15 season with a 7 p.m. bout against St. Olaf this Friday, Jan. 23, in Sexton Arena. SJU will split for the Lakeland Duals on Saturday, Jan. 24, while the bulk of Friday’s lineup travels to face No. 6 Augsburg for a 2 p.m. dual on Sunday, Jan. 25.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Division II MSU-Moorhead won the first eight matches, four by two points or less, en route to a 34-6 wrestling win over Saint John’s on Jan. 16 in Moorhead. Senior Ryan Michaelis (Monticello, Minn.) erased the shutout for SJU (3-12 dual record) with a pin in 6:20 at 197 pounds. He is now 7-1 on the season and is ranked seventh nationally by D3wrestle.com. Junior Ben Henle (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) saw his 14-match win streak come to an end with a 9-7 loss in double overtime at 141 pounds. He picked up a three-point near fall near the end of the second period to gain a 7-4 lead but ran out of time for the pin. Henle surrendered a reversal in the third period and the Dragons’ Philippe Walker accrued over a minute of riding time to send the match to overtime. Following the first overtime (sudden victory), Henle chose down in the first 30-second frame but could not escape. Walker recorded a reversal with 10 seconds left to earn the win. Ranked as high as seventh nationally by D3wrestle.com, Henle is now 20-5 on the season, with all five losses against Division I or Division II student-athletes. SJU dropped three other matches by two points or less. Senior Evan Guffey (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) fell to Blake Bosch, who is ranked sixth in Division II, by a 2-0 score at 133 pounds. Sophomore Teddy Erickson (Annandale, Minn.) lost by a 3-1 decision at 165 pounds and freshman Nick Pegelow (Eagan, Minn./Eastview) suffered a 3-2 loss at 184 pounds.

A LOOK AT THE OLES: St. Olaf (1-2 dual record) forfeited three weights and fell by a 51-3 score to No. 3 Concordia-Moorhead its last time out on Jan. 16. The Oles’ previous appearance on the mat at Central’s Under Armour Invitational on Jan. 10 went much better, however. Senior Carl Elmer won the 157-pound weight class, while freshman Sameh Almousa and junior Adam Woitalla tied for third at 149. Junior Zach Gibson is currently ranked ninth nationally by D3wrestle.com at heavyweight.

PROBABLE MATCHES: Here are the probable matchups for Friday’s dual vs. St. Olaf.

125: Ben Kollaja (0-13) vs. Open
133: Chris Ortman (2-1) vs. Open
141: Ben Henle (No. 7/9, 20-5) vs. Paul Timm (0-4)
149: Branden Schorr (0-11) vs. Sameh Almousa (11-9)
157: Ochirbat Bayanjargal (0-11) vs. Carl Elmer (13-4)
165: Teddy Erickson (7-11) vs. Seth Barkosky (2-8)
174: Glenn Castro (1-10) vs. Hugh Ellerman (3-8)
184: Aaron Baker (1-5) vs. Open
197: Ryan Michaelis (No. 7, 7-1) vs. Robert Caulfield (5-11)
285: Colin Fisher (5-3) vs. Open

LAST YEAR: Then-No. 21 SJU wrestling took advantage of three forfeits in a 30-14 win at St. Olaf last year on Feb. 14 (2014) in Northfield. Both teams tallied three wins and forfeited the match at 125 pounds. St. Olaf started the dual at 149 pounds with a pin before the Johnnies tied it with a pair of decisions from sophomoreBranden Schorr (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) and Brandon Seppelt ’14 at 157 (8-5) and 165 (11-6), respectively. James Roach, who was ranked as high as second nationally by the NWCA, gave the Oles their last lead of the dual with a technical fall at 174 pounds. SJU earned a forfeit at 184 pounds and junior Josh Willaert (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) bumped up to 197 and earned a pin in 1:59. Zach Gibson registered a 7-4 win over John Scepaniak ’14 at heavyweight. SJU ended the dual with a pair of forfeit wins (133 and 141 pounds) following the double forfeit at 125.

SERIES HISTORY: SJU is 22-0 against St. Olaf since the 1990-91 season and has outscored the Oles 826-193 during that span.

THE OTHER GUYS: The Johnnies are scheduled to wrestle the Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-4 dual record, 11 a.m.); the host Muskies (0-4 dual record, 12:30 p.m.); and Wisconsin-Platteville (1-4 record; 2 p.m.). Platteville’s Cole Ferguson, who is ranked eighth by D3wrestle.com at 125 pounds, is the lone nationally-ranked wrestler from the three teams.

A LOOK AT AUGSBURG: Augsburg (7-3 dual record) is ranked sixth nationally and wrestles a pair of duals before hosting SJU Sunday afternoon. The Auggies visit Ridgewater tonight and host Concordia-Moorhead Friday evening. The team, which went 3-2 at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals, currently has five nationally-ranked wrestlers:

125: No. 1 Mike Fuenffinger
133: No. 9 Chad Bartschenfeld
149: No. 9/10 Will Keeter
197: No. 7/10 Matt Hechsel
285: No. 7 Donny Longendyke

LAST YEAR: The Johnnies lost four matches each by three points or less in a 28-9 loss to then-No. 7 Augsburg on Feb. 16 in Collegeville. Mike Fuenffinger gave the Auggies a 6-0 lead with a pin of junior John Wells (Janesville, Wis./Milton) in 5:24 at 125 pounds. The match was Wells’ first since Jan. 11. Chad Bartschenfeld scored a takedown with 27 seconds left to hand Alex Peck ’14 a 6-4 loss at 133 pounds before Henle put SJU on the scoreboard with an 11-4 win, one point from a major decision. Joe Hessing ’14 led by as much as 6-2 but Augsburg’s Will Keeter recorded a takedown with 45 seconds left to cut it to 7-6 and send the match into overtime with the additional point for riding time. Keeter won the match 9-7 with a takedown 20 seconds into the one-minute, sudden-death overtime. Ryan Arne ’14 built an 8-2 lead and held on for an 11-7 win, thanks to a late takedown in his favor, at 157 pounds. His opponent, Rashad Kennedy, bit Arne’s forearm after the match and was disqualified, which gave SJU three additional team points (serving as a forfeit) and cut its deficit to 12-9. The bizarre action failed to spark the Johnnies, however, as Augsburg won the final five matches. The Auggies’ Justin Bowland won the battle of high-school teammates with a 6-1 decision over Seppelt and Erickson fought back from an 8-4 deficit, only to lose by a 10-8 score at 174 pounds. Tommy Teigen tallied a 13-2 major decision over Willaert at 184 pounds and Matt Hechsel, ranked fifth nationally, edged Michaelis 3-0 at 197.

Division II Marauders and SJU Meet for Saturday Matinee

Saint John’s wrestling hosts Division II Mary (N.D.) for a 2 p.m. dual on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Sexton Arena.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John’s (5-16 dual record) recorded a 31-9 win over Ridgewater on Wednesday night (Jan. 28) in Collegeville. Following a double forfeit at 125 pounds, SJU built a 15-0 lead thanks to a forfeit at 133, a 7-3 decision from freshman Chris Ortman (Pierz, Minn.) at 141 and a pin in 2:28 by sophomoreBranden Schorr (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) at 149. Chris Schmidt erased a 5-0 deficit with 14 consecutive points before pinning senior Ochirbat Bayanjargal (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/St. Benedict’s Prep) in 5:36 at 157 pounds for Ridgewater (1-7 dual record). The Johnnies responded with four straight wins to earn the dual victory. Sophomore Brian McCann (Deerfield, Ill.) collected a pin at 165 pounds, followed by decisions from sophomore Glenn Castro (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) and freshman Nick Hoff (Rushford, Minn./Rushford-Peterson) at 174 (11-6) and 184 (7-3) pounds, respectively. The decision was the first win not by pin for Hoff, who is now 8-5 on the season. Sophomore Robert Tait (Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) tallied a 16-3 major decision at 197 pounds before the Warriors’ John Wittman ended the dual with a 9-6 win over freshman Noah Voigt (St. Augusta, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) at heavyweight. The match was the first of Voigt’s collegiate career. Ortman won his second match of the night, in an exhibition bout, via major decision (17-7). He is now 5-2 on the season.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Junior Ben Henle (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) stayed at seventh nationally at 141 pounds according to D3wrestle.com and moved up one spot to eighth by the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA). He is 22-5 on the year and has won 16 of his last 17 matches.

Senior Ryan Michaelis (Monticello, Minn.) is still ranked seventh at 197 pounds by D3wrestle.com, but is still not listed in the NWCA top 10 despite handling seventh-ranked Matt Hechsel of Augsburg, 7-2 on Jan. 25. A two-time national entrant, Michaelis has a 9-1 record this season.

ZERO HOUR (Pre-Show):

ALL IN is officially underway.

The Zero Hour Pre-Show kicks off on WGN America with The “Being The Elite” theme music playing. The Young Bucks and Cody come out to cut a promo. They teased some pyro and after a comedic “false start” to the show, some crazy pyro started shooting off.

They tease someone from the past being in the building and out comes Road Warrior Animal on a motorcycle for the first “Road Warrior Pop” of the night.

We see the arena and it looks very well done from a production and presentation standpoint. It’s time to head to the ring for our first of two Pre-Show Matches here on The Zero Hour Pre-Show on WGN America.
SoCal Uncensored (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs. The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe): SCU come out in some sweet Rocky inspired gear. Scorpio Sky is dressed like Apollo Creed from Rocky 4 while Kazarian has got himself a Rocky inspired robe. Sky grabs a mic and tells the crowd that this is the worst town they have ever been in (he actually had the crowd finish the catch phrase.) Kaz talks up being ALL IN. The Briscoes start by mobbing Kazarian. But Scorpio soon tags in and goes nuts on the Briscoes. Kaz back in and working with Mark. Sky back in with a top rope axe handle on the arm of Mark as Kaz holds it. Sky tosses Mark out of the ring but Jay rolls in with a big clothesline and suddenly Scorpio is in trouble. Scorpio still having trouble but starts to fire up against Mark. But Mark pulls him back to the corner, Jay tags in, and Sky is still in peril. Scorpio hits a rana on Jay. Mark tries to stop him from making the tag but fails and Kaz comes in hot, taking out both brothers. He employs a northern lights on Jay while having Mark rolled up with his legs but gets a 2 count.
Sky is in and belly to belly Jay over the ropes onto Mark. And then Kaz hits a rana on the floor to Mark. The crowd is hot for SCU, despite this being the worst crowd they’ve ever been to. Scorpio with a tope con giro. Back in the ring, members of SCU have a dragon sleeper locked in. But Jay reaches over to Kaz and rakes the eye. And then rakes the eye of Sky. Evolution PPV Ticket Sales Update, WWE Remembers Burt Reynolds

According to Dave Meltzer in a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has sold 7,000 tickets for the first-ever All-Women’s Evolution PPV as of this week. Evolution will end up being close to sold out on the day of the event as The Nassau Coliseum is being set up for 10,900 seats. Of the 7,000 tickets sold, around 2,400 went to ticket brokers.
Evolution takes place on Sunday, October 28th from Uniondale, New York. It was previously reported that the event did not sell out the first day and the weak on-sale was not a major success, as is the case with most PPV Events these days, especially in The New York market.
WWE has officially announced two matches for Evolution as of this writing – WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus vs. Alexa Bliss and WWE Hall of Famer Lita vs. Mickie James. It is believed that Michelle McCool will be coming out of retirement for the event as well. Rumored matches include Maryse vs. Brie Bella and Nikki Bella vs. RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. There will also be the finals of The 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament plus a SmackDown Women’s Title Match, a WWE NXT Women’s Title Match and a NXT UK Women’s Title Match.

Over the years, several celebrities and legendary actors have graced The WWE with their appearances and involvements in huge events such as WrestleMania. Majority of these celebrities have even been inducted into The WWE Hall Of Fame. Unfortunately, it was announced that Legendary Actor Burt Reynolds recently passed away at the age of 82. Reynolds appeared at WrestleMania 10 to serve as the ring announcer for The WWE Title match between WWE Hall of Famers Bret Hart and Yokozuna. WWE remembered Reynolds with the following statement:
Burt Reynolds Passes Away
WWE is saddened to learn that Academy Award-nominated actor and Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds has passed away at the age of 82.
The star of more than 50 feature films, including “The Longest Yard,” “Smokey and the Bandit,” “The Cannonball Run” and “Boogie Nights” (for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Reynolds was a special celebrity guest at WrestleMania X, serving as ring announcer for the main event WWE Championship Match pitting Bret Hart against Yokozuna.

WWE extends its condolences to Reynolds’ family, friends and fans.

Foley Not Taking Bumps at HIAC, 205 Live/Raw Update, MLW/Storm

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley appeared on Monday Night Raw earlier this week and confronted Elias before announcing that he will be the special guest referee for the Universal Championship match between Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns at Hell in a Cell this weekend. While some have reported that Foley could be taking a bump during the Hell in a Cell match, perhaps even mirroring some bumps that he has taken in past cell matches, Wrestling Observer Radio has claimed that WWE will not permit Foley to take any sort of serious bump this Sunday. Mick Foley will likely not be getting physical during the show, and it was noted that Foley was only added to the match in order to promote his one-man show that premieres on the WWE Network right after the pay-per-view ends.
As seen on this week’s edition of Raw, 205 Live wrestler Lio Rush has seemingly aligned himself with Bobby Lashley and will be working as his manager going forward. This move came one week after 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick was selected to be the manager for The Authors of Pain. According to Fightful, WWE has chosen to have some of the cruiserweights that have strong talking skills into managerial roles in order to utilize their talents more while also possibly paving the way for more managers to eventually appear on Raw and SmackDown. Before WWE begins searching for performers who will work strictly as managers, the company will use 205 Live performers for the time being. Lio Rush and Drake Maverick still appear on 205 Live each Tuesday night.
James Storm has achieved a ton of success in the wrestling business over the years. Not only is he considered to be a “TNA Original,” but he also became an Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, a seven-time Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champion, and he has captured championship gold in several other promotions as well. This is why MLW fans were thrilled to see Storm debut for the promotion and attack Tom Lawlor during their recent set of tapings in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Per PWInsider, Storm and MLW have already decided to part ways, meaning that Storm’s appearance was just a one-off. There is no word on whether or not MLW still plans on airing the footage with Storm in the near future.

2016 Rio Olympics: Majlinda Kelmendi's judo win highlights day 2

Images courtesy of NBC.com

Fairy tale finishes in high-level sport are often talked about, and hoped for, but rarely get written to completion. On Sunday, two of those stories were not only finished, but received emphatic exclamation points, to boot.

Here’s a look at day two of the 2016 Olympics.

Women’s Lightweight – 115 lb – 52 kg —

While the men’s medal bouts closed the show, for many, Majlinda Kelmendi winning Gold for the women in the lightweight division is the real Olympic story of the day.

In the 115 pound (52 kg) final, Kelmendi scored a strong yuko about thirty seconds into her bout against Odette Giuffrida, and was able to hold the Italian at bay for the duration, claiming the high step on the medal stand.

The medal winners, including Kelmendi (second from the left) celebrate on the medal stand.

While Kelmendi adds the ultimate crown jewel to her already a glorious trophy case, the 25 year old’s road back to Gold in the last four years has been just as notable due to some of its potholes. Hailing from the war-torn city of Pec, in western Kosovo, where the young judoka trains in poor, third-world, athletic conditions, Kelmendi showed high-level aptitude from an early age.

A favorite to medal during London’s 2012 Games, she was unceremoniously sent packing during the round of 16. There, Kelmendi competed under Albania’s flag, due to the International Olympic Committee not recognizing the state as a member until 2014. Because of that, the Rio Games are the first for the Balkan nation, whose athletes have always been forced to compete under the rule of others.

For decades, alongside Croats and Serbs, as a part of Yugoslavia. Then, after the country’s breakup, as other former members of the union formed committees and shined, without recognition, Kosovars were forced to the sidelines, or in search of other countries to represent. In past years, some were allowed to compete for Serbia (and its previous alliance state with Montenegro) provided they had Serbian blood. That unstable deal ended in 2008 when Kosovo announced its independence.

To this day, Serbia  – along with over eighty other countries, widespread throughout South America, Asia and Africa – have still not recognized an independent Kosovo. According to Reuters, Serbian officials have made it clear to its athletes that they are to step down from the medal stand in protest if they were to share it with a Kosovar – despite the countries having almost no direct competitions during the Games.

Kelmendi, who began practicing at the age of eight, began Sunday’s competition with a fury seemed designed on putting London’s failure to bed early. Receiving a bye in the round of 16, the world’s second ranked 115-pounder smashed Switzerland’s Evelyne Tschopp in 25 seconds via ippon, and advanced to the quarterfinals where she also dispatched of Christianne Legentil of Mauritius. Those victories led to a high-intensity semifinal bout against Mistao Nakamura of Japan.

Ranked third in the world coming in, Nakamura, entered the semifinal off a fantastic quarterfinal against Russian Natalia Kuziutina, who took the Japanese fighter into very deep waters. It took 3:39 of golden (extra) time before Nakamura was able to gain the victory, but she showed little fatigue, if any, against Kelmendi. But, despite her best efforts, an early shido (yellow card penalty) that went against Nakamura ended up being the deciding factor. Despite the aggressiveness, Kelmendi calmly survived an attack on the ground, as well as avoided being thrown, until time expired.

Nakamura and Kuziutina during their incredibly entertaining quarterfinal scrap.

Ranked tenth in the world coming into the day, Odette Giuffrida’s path to the Gold medal bout with Kelmedni was not as rollicking – but it also wasn’t short on big moments, either.

The 21-year old blond knocked off German’s Mareen Krah during the round of 16, before scoring the biggest upset amongst all female judoka, thus far. In the quarterfinals, the Roma native shocked Romania’s Andreea Chitu – the world’s top ranked fighter at 115 pounds – to advance.

Like Kelmendi, Chitu was eliminated during 2012’s round of 16 in London, and was also a heavy favorite to medal in Rio. Those hopes went out the window when Chitu was defeated in the repechage (loser’s bracket, which decides the bronze medal match opponents) by the world’s number four woman, Erika Miranda of Brazil. Miranda had been also been upset during the quarterfinals, hers by the hands of China’s Ma Yingnan.

Yingnan advanced to the semifinals, facing Giuffrida, who eked out an effective, but relatively unimpressive, victory – one which seemed to have her Chinese opponent visibly frustrated with what she believed to be unpenalized stalling tactics.

The loss sent Yingnan, 32, into the second Bronze medal matchup against Russia’s Kuziutina, 27, who capped her own fairy tale run by throwing her Chinese opponent, staying in dominant top control, and holding her down until the bout was stopped.

In the first Bronze medal match, Japan’s Nakamura and Brazil’s Miranda were both looking for tournament redemption. After a slow start, both picked it up towards the end of the round. Miranda attempted an armbar late in regulation but Nakamura avoided, and the two went into golden scoring time.

An incredibly loud Brazilian crowd, that had been cheering Miranda on, was instantly silenced at 2:20 of extra time.  Nakamura sat down on an attempted throw attempt, and delivered an Ouchi Gari (an inside leg sweep done from Nakamura’s lead leg), staying on top, to claim the Bronze.

It was a very bittersweet win for the 27-year old, as this looked to be her last run at an Olympic Gold. The three-time, defending, World Champion also won a Bronze in Beijing during 2008’s Games, and was expected to win Gold in 2012. Instead, she was sent packing immediately after a loss in the round of 16.

Women’s 115 lb2 kg Final Medal Standings:
Gold: Majlinda Kelmendi (KOS)
Silver: Odette Giuffrida (ITA)
Bronze: Misato Nakamura (JAP)
Bronze: Natalia Kuziutina (RUS)
Men’s Lightweight – 146 lb – 66 kg —

Not to be outdone by Kelmendi and Giuffrida, the men’s lightweight division also had a few storybook moments, as well as possibly creating a new star for the sport. And, like Giuffrida, it’s a 21-year old Azzurri member, to boot.

Fabio Basile celebrates his lightweight Gold medal victory – WITH ABS~! (And a failed backflip.)

At only 5’3” and 21-years old, Fabio Basile had one of the biggest days of any Olympian, on Sunday, claiming the men’s 146 pound (66 kg) Gold medal, with a victory over South Korea’s An Baul.

The shortest judoka in his class, yet possibly the most exciting, Basile scored a shocking ippon 84 seconds into regulation time to win the Gold medal. Baul came into the contest the top ranked fighter in his class.

Basile scores an ippon over Baul to win the 2016 Gold medal at 66kg.

Incredibly aggressive throughout the tournament, after the bout Basile attempted a backflip (which he didn’t quite land), ripped open his gi, howled to the crowd, made Stone Cold Steve Austin beer-drinking hand motions, and mugged for the camera. The English announce team pondered if the International Judo Federation would judge the youngster’s antics, but if his charisma and skills in Rio are any indication, his shining star should be well on the ascension into the heavens, in one of the most popular international niche sports.

To get to the final, Basile had defeated Slovakia’s Adrian Gomboc in one semifinal, while Baul had knocked off Masashi Ebinuma of Japan in the other.

Earlier, during the quarterfinals, Basile knocked off world number two, Davaadorjiin Tomorkhuleg of Mongolia. That sent the Mogol into the repechage, where he was stunned by the 20th ranked judoka in the world, Antoine Bouchard of Canada.

Mentioned earlier, Gomboc’s name is notable, because he’s the name you need to draw backwards from to get to the biggest upset of the day – and possibly the entire Games.

Taking place in the men’s division round of 32, 112th-ranked Mathews Punza of Zambia shocked the world’s 146 pound number six, Golan Pollack of Israel. Punza threw Pollack, and was able to hold him down for 20 seconds, causing the bout to be waved off. Punza would go on to lose to Adrian Gomboc in the round of 16.

The 21-year old Gomboc continued to take advantage of his opportunities, defeating Canada’s Bouchard in the quarterfinals, before losing to Basile. As a result of the loss, he would go on to the second Bronze medal matchup with Rishod Sobirov of Uzbekistan, where he was tapped out.

Hovering around (or just out) of the IJF’s top ten, the soon-to-be 30 year old Uzbek won his third consecutive Olympic Bronze medal.

In the other Bronze medal bout, Japan’s Ebinuma ended the hopes of Bouchard, in a battle of left handed stances. A slow start had Bouchard needing to be aggressive towards the end of the contest, to try and steal a score. But, Ebinuma was able to use his determination against him by utilizing a shoulder throw to clinch the victory.

Men’s 146 lb/66 kg Final Medal Standings:
Gold: Fabio Basile (ITA)
Silver: An Baul (KOR)
Bronze: Masashi Ebinuma (JAP)
Bronze: Rishod Sobirov (UZE)

Pentagon Jr & Fenix Not Going to WWE, Rayne Has Signed With ROH

Pentagon Jr and Fenix are two wrestlers who have exploded in popularity over the past few years. The two brothers are in high demand on the independent wrestling circuit, and they also currently wrestle on three televised wrestling programs at the moment: Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground, and MLW. The Luchadors even reportedly caught the attention of key officials in WWE and it has been said in the past that the company wanted to put the brothers on the NXT program as soon as they became free agents in early 2019. However, some recent reports have claimed that the two will likely not be going to WWE, but a definitive answer on the futures of Pentagon & Fenix has now just been provided.
The Lucha Bros are staying exactly where they are and will not be coming to WWE for the time being. According to PWInsider, Pentagon & Fenix are under contract to Lucha Underground until 2020 and are both committed to another season if the show gets picked up again. Also, both of them allegedly began negotiations for more lucrative deals with Impact Wrestling last week and are also accepting bookings with MLW, AAA, CMLL, and some North American independent wrestling promotions for much of 2019. MLW founder Court Bauer stated on Twitter earlier this week that the brothers were set for at least another year in his promotion. For right now, Pentagon and Fenix won’t be coming to WWE any time soon.
Madison Rayne has had an eventful year so far as she has just recently competed at the huge All In independent wrestling event, and she also wrestled for Impact Wrestling earlier this year, and she also took part in the Mae Young Classic tournament for WWE not too long ago as well. Rayne has just signed an exclusive deal with one wrestling promotion, but it isn’t for WWE or Impact Wrestling. Madison revealed on The Taz Show that she has signed with Ring of Honor and will now be working as a member of the Women of Honor division. Madison Rayne has wrestled for ROH on a few occasions in the past, but the former Knockouts Champion will now become part of the promotion in the very near future.
