WWE Smackdown Posts Nearly 4 MILLION Viewers in FOX Debut

Preliminary numbers are in for the WWE Friday Night Smackdown premiere on FOX, averaging 3.87 million viewers for wrestling’s return to network television.

The first hour of the show was watched by 3.92 million people featuring the return of The Rock, a women’s tag team match, Universal Champion Seth Rollins in action against Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, and an appearance from The Fiend.

The good news is that the show lost relatively few viewers heading into the second hour, drawing 3.82 million (-2.6%) for the ladder match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon, the WWE Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Kofi Kingston, and the debut of UFC legend Cain Velasquez.

Smackdown was fifth place on network television Friday night behind Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods on CBS, and The Blacklist on NBC.
