This is according to European football expert Kevin Hatchard, who lauded the club’s transfer business ahead of confirmation Minamino is travelling to Liverpool for a medical on Wednesday.
The Red Bull Salzburg ace won a lot of admirers in Merseyside with his performances against Liverpool in the Champions League group stages – having scored one goal and assisted another as the Reds were pushed to a 4-3 win at Anfield earlier this season.
And it is believed the club have reached an agreement to sign the versatile attacker when the January transfer window opens – for a bargain fee of just £7.25million.
Despite being a consistent performer for Salzburg since his arrival from his homeland in 2015, Minamino has gone under the radar in the Austrian top flight.
He has been overshadowed this season by Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, whose brilliant goalscoring form has seen him linked with a move to Manchester United.
But European football correspondent Hatchard has told talkSPORT just why signing Minamino is such a great coup for the Reds and how he could play a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Asked about Liverpool’s imminent signing, he said: “I think Minamino is a perfect fit. Liverpool are so, so clever in the transfer market.
“Salzburg are very realistic about this kind of thing. Their whole business model works on identifying talent, developing talent, and then selling it on.
“It is a shock that he has such a low release clause because, even though all the focus has been on Erling Braut Haaland, Minamino has been a consistent performer for Salzburg for quite a long time.
“One of the great things about him is he’s versatile.
“He could play in the centre of that attack – in similar areas to where Roberto Firmino operates – but he can also play out wide as well, so Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah could have a rest; he can slot in anywhere along the front three.
