South Dakota State’s Pack eliminated at NCAAs

South Dakota State wrestler Cody Pack was eliminated 3-0 in his wrestleback match on Thursday night.

Pack finished the NCAA Championships 0-2 in the 157-pound weight class.

In Pack’s first-round match he wrestled the No. 12 seed Moore. Moore opened the scoring with a takedown midway through the first period and rode out the remaining 1:44. Pack started the second period on top and cut the riding time advantage by one minute and 42 seconds, but allowed an escape with 18 seconds remaining. The two started the third period neutral with Pack trailing 3-0. Moore scored an early takedown in the third period and rode out the remainder of the match.

In the first round of the consolation bracket, Cody Pack wrestled Tommy Churchard (Purdue). Churchard scored a takedown near the end of the second minute and rode out the remainder of the first period. Pack started the second on top, but Churchard escaped midway through the period. The two tangled multiple times over the last minute, but only managed two stalemates. Pack entered the third period with a 3-0 deficit. The two started neutral in the third, but neither wrestler found the scoreboard.

The loss eliminated Pack, who qualified with his runner-up finish at the West Regional.
