HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Crews in Howard County helped a llama to safety after the animal got stuck in a flooded pasture overnight. Emergency personnel performed the rescue in the Mink Hollow area near the Patuxent River, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services reported.
The call for help came around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, officials told the Howard County Times. Rescuers connected a rope to the llama’s harness and walked with the creature through the flooded pasture, the newspaper reported.
Rain saturated the region overnight, steadily falling from Saturday through Sunday. About 3.79 inches of rain had fallen in the Highland area by 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, based on preliminary data submitted to the National Weather Service.
Several roads were flooded in Howard County as a result, government officials reported.
