Kim Min-Jae set for Napoli medical ahead of €19.5m move

According to Sky Sports Napoli are set to sign Fenerbahçe centre-back Kim Min-Jae after activating the South Korean’s €19.5m release clause – who will complete his medical in Italy today. The defender was close to joining Rennes but Napoli came late into the picture to swoop in for a deal.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier this month that Napoli were holding out for a deal with Kim Min-Jae despite a verbal agreement already being made with Ligue 1’s Rennes. However, whilst the player was set to fly to France to conclude the deal, talks continued between Napoli and Fenerbahçe in Istanbul and looked to have convinced the player as he is now set to sign with the Serie A side.

Rennes dropped out the deal after it was reported that a Premier League side was also interested in the defender, working on other options in the centre of defence.

The Bretons are keen to sign several quality replacements to fill the hole in defence left by Nayef Aguerd’s departure to West Ham United  – and were interested in the 40-capped South Korean international since last month. Min-Jae impressed last season in Turkey, making 30 appearances and scoring 1 goal.
