Cracker Barrel Recall: You Won't Be Sickened, But You Could Bleed

There’s nothing fake about Cracker Barrel Country Store’s recall, though the recalled item is. You can’t eat the Driftwood Pineapple, so it won’t make you so sick you want to die, unlike some of the food subject to a spate of recalls for salmonella and other contaminants.

But you could poke your eye out with it (don’t say Mom didn’t warn you). The 10-inch-high galvanized metal leaves at the top of the decorative pineapple are sharp and could cause cuts, Cracker Barrel said on its website.

The restaurant is voluntarily recalling the home decor items, which were sold for $39.99 from June 6-Aug. 8. About 1,500 of the dangerous fake pineapples were sold during that period. Customers can get a full refund.

Two people were cut by the pineapples, including one person who required stitches, according to the U.S. Consumer Protection Commission.

Those who purchased the driftwood pineapples online wil be contacted directly, but those who bought the pineapples a Cracker Barrel store should call (800) 333-9566 during the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CDT, Monday-Friday, or visit crackerbarrel.com. Read more about the recall here.

According to the product description, the decorative pineapple is “handcrafted from driftwood twigs for an island-inspired look you’ll love.” Cracker Barrel suggests the pineapple be displayed on a mantel, credenza, shelf or table “for a unique splash of character and charm.”
