Silas Young On A Potential WWE Run, Being ROH TV Champion & Women’s Wrestling

Ring Of Honor star and current ROH TV Champion, Silas Young recently spoke to PWInsider.com about a range of topics, including being the champion and women’s wrestling.

Below are some highlights from the interview and you can read the full conversation here.

Potential WWE Run

“Right now, I feel like I have really good momentum with Ring of Honor. I feel like there’s really good things happening there, I’m really starting to come into my own. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish. Right now, I don’t see it happening, but never say never in wrestling. I’m really happy. I really enjoy the work, the schedule, the creative freedom, everything that Ring of Honor allows us.”

Being ROH TV Champion

“In wrestling, a lot of guys, we’ve wrestled a lot of different places, and we’ve won championships before. To be honest with you, winning the Ring of Honor World Television Title, there was a huge sense of pride with that. It’s a world-renowned company, and it’s a belt that’s only been held by guys who are highly respected. I take a lot of pride in that, and like you said, it’s knowing that the company, the bookers, they have confidence in you, they think you can carry that. It’s awesome, I’m enjoying it.”

Women’s Wrestling

“Women’s wrestling, in general, has been a huge thing, and a huge thing to pop up in the last, I don’t know, few years or so. It’s good that Ring of Honor’s recognizing that there’s a lot of really good, talented female wrestlers out there. It’s good that they’re getting another place and opportunity to showcase that.”

Top Companies Revealed In Potential Bidding War for WWE TV Rights, Could Shows Air on WWE Network?

Variety has published a new article looking at WWE celebrating 25 years of Raw tonight amid doubt regarding the company’s future on television. As noted, WWE’s current deal with NBCUniversal expires next year, and other companies, including streaming services, are expected to bid for WWE rights in the coming months.

Potential suitors for WWE TV include FOX, and New Fox, a company centered on its broadcast stations, cable news and sports, making it a perfect potential home for WWE.

“It’s an exciting time,” said Triple H regarding the future of WWE television. “We are incredibly happy with our partnership with USA,” added Stephanie McMahon, WWE’s chief brand officer. “In terms of what the future might hold, I guess we’ll see, but we’ve been very, very happy and I hope NBC is happy as well.”

With WWE currently airing the Mixed Match Challenge series via Facebook Watch, the idea of WWE shifting its content away from TV and to a streaming service is becoming more and more of a possibility. According to sources, both Amazon and Facebook have signaled interest in bidding for “Raw” and “SmackDown” media rights.

But Triple H stressed the importance of WWE capitalizing on numerous forms of media, saying “wrestling has been on television since day one. Moving forward into the cable industry, one of the biggest things cable brought in as a ratings winner, globally, was professional wrestling. Vince turned it into a one-brand, global product and pioneered the pay-per-view industry, the OTT industry — it’s at the forefront of all those things.”

“We want to revolutionize the way content is consumed,” Stephanie McMahon added.

One future home for WWE Raw and Smackdown which can be ruled out for the time being is the WWE Network, as Stephanie McMahon had the following to say:

“We leverage a content ecosystem, so at the moment, it is absolutely relevant and necessary to have [our content]on linear platforms. It is still reaching a broad audience and it’s still our most profitable line of business. One piece doesn’t work without the other. Ultimately, would ‘Raw’ and ‘SmackDown’ go to the WWE Network? Maybe. But that’s certainly not where we are now.”

PHOTO: Kurt Angle Spoils Women’s Royal Rumble Entrants?

WWE Raw GM Kurt Angle posted the following on Instagram, potentially spoiling surprise names for the Women’s Royal Rumble match tonight.

As we noted over the weekend, Ronda Rousey appears to be out as a possible surprise Rumble entrant, as she recently posted photos of herself in Columbia on the set of her new movie. Anything is possible, however, and Rousey could make an appearance if she has indeed signed with WWE, but as of now all signs indicate she will not be in Philadelphia tonight.

The origin of the photo remains unclear, however it has been re-tweeted by WWE’s official Twitter account as seen below:

Tonight, history will be made when we crown the 1st ever 30 participant Royal Rumble Women’s Winner. Be sure to watch this historic event. #itstrue #wwe #wwenetwork

Surprise Entrant In 205 Live Tournament?

WWE.com has posted the following, teasing a possible surprise entrant in the WWE Cruiserweight Title tournament which continues tonight on 205 Live.

As we noted before, via Pro Wrestling Sheet, NXT star Lio Rush is being rumored as a tournament participant:

Click Here: union bordeaux begles rugby jerseys

Last week on WWE 205 Live, NXT Superstar Roderick Strong shocked the WWE Universe by entering the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament and defeating Hideo Itami. The hard-hitting displayed the resilience, skill and determination that WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick expects the Cruiserweights to channel when competing inside the squared circle. However, the appearance of Strong in the tournament understandably begs a question: Who else will enter?

Responding to a tweet from Gentleman Jack Gallagher Friday evening, Maverick seemingly confirmed that Gallagher, Mustafa Ali, Ariya Daivari and a surprise entrant would be the final four competitors in the first round of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.

Although the WWE 205 Live GM’s retweet of Gallagher was a question posed to the WWE Universe about the British Superstar’s opponent, the prospect of a surprise entrant – especially after Strong’s impressive performance last week – is certainly of note.

Will Maverick reveal the final four matches of the first round tonight?

As seen at WWE Royal Rumble last night, Dolph Ziggler made his return to WWE TV and entered the Royal Rumble match at number 30.

According to PWInsider.com, Ziggler is expected to be at Smackdown Live tomorrow night in Philadelphia, and current plans call for Ziggler to feud with Bobby Roode for the United States Title.

As we noted earlier today, WWE originally had Dolph Ziggler penciled in to face Bobby Roode for the U.S. Title in the Open Challenge match at the Royal Rumble, however those plans were scrapped in favor of having Ziggler return in the Rumble match.

Brock Lesnar Set for Champion vs Champion Match, Rollins Gets New Partner, Cody On Goldust’s ‘Cross Rhodes’

As noted, former WWE Raw Tag Team Champion Jason Jordan underwent successful surgery today to repair an injured disc in his neck, and he is expected to be out of action for at least ten weeks.

Jordan was scheduled to team up with Seth Rollins to face The Bar at upcoming live events, however with Jordan out of action Rollins will be teaming up with the leader of the Balor Club, Finn Balor.
