The Rock Reflects On Feuding With ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin: “I Was So Honored”

The Rock recently reflected on his classic rivalry with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin during his latest Instagram live Q&A video with his fans.

The Rock discussed wrestling Steve Austin after he had returned from his neck injury, admitting that he was honored to be trusted with wrestling him after such a major injury.

“Steve had broken his neck and came back from a broken neck so he was very particular about who he wrestled with,” Rock continued. He trusted me and there was only a handful of guys that he trusted with his injury and wrestling him at that time. I was so honored.”

The Hollywood star also admitted that he was a big fan of Austin’s work long before he became ‘Stone Cold’ in WWE.

“I’d been a big fan of ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin before he was ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin as “Stunning” Steve Austin,” Rock said in the video. “His wrestling days in World Class, his wrestling days in WCW and of course up in ECW with Paul Heyman and that crew before he came over to the WWE.”

Finally, he discussed what made their rivalry a special one, admitting he doesn’t think there has been a better box-office draw than them two feuding.

“There has been no feud that has been a greater box-office draw and that, in my opinion, and it’s so totally biased, by the way, because it’s me, that actually had more x-factor heat and electricity and sometimes you can’t write it, you can’t put your finger on it, but when it happens it explodes and it is an emotionality that you cannot deny.”

Juventud Guerrera vs. Chris Jericho set for AEW Dynamite Homecoming

Chris Jericho will face Juventud Guerrera in his Third Labour of Jericho on next week’s AEW Dynamite Homecoming. MJF made the announcement at the conclusion of tonight’s Fight for the Fallen edition of Dynamite.

Jericho defeated Nick Gage in a no rules match in this week’s main event. Following the win, MJF cut a promo, borrowing some verbiage from CM Punk’s “pipe bomb” promo. He said that while Jericho was in pain, he should know that MJF has a long memory.

MJF then aired a clip of Jericho referencing Juventud in a promo with MJF on a 2019 episode of Dynamite. MJF said that “The Juice” will be back on TNT next week in a match where Jericho will need to hit a move off the top rope to win. MJF will be on commentary for the match.

Guerrera has remained active on the independent scene, but is best known in the United States for his run as part of the WCW cruiserweight division in the Monday Night War era of WCW Monday Nitro.

In addition to lengthy runs with both AAA and CMLL in Mexico, Guerrera had runs in ECW, WWE and Pro Wrestling NOAH. He has primarily worked as a freelancer for the last decade, working for a number of promotions all over the world.

Already announced for next week, Miro will defend the TNT Championship against Lee Johnson, plus Cody Rhodes takes on Malakai Black in Black’s AEW in-ring debut.

Hamilton condemns ‘cowardly’ anti-LGBTQ+ law in Hungary

Ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has spoken out against the Magyar government’s new anti-LGBTQ+ law which he has called “unacceptable and cowardly”.

The government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban introduced earlier this month a new law banning the representation of homosexuals or transgender individuals in schools or entertainment programs destined to under 18-year-olds.

In the wake of the adoption of the new discriminatory law in Hungary, the European Parliament voted in favour of urgent legal action against the country, insisting the law was “another example of the gradual dismantling of fundamental rights in Hungary”.

Hungary has said that it will hold a referendum on the controversial issue by early 2022.

Ahead of this weekend’s 11th round of the F1 world championship in Budapest, Hamilton took to social media on Thursday to denounce Hungary’s new anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

“To all in this beautiful country Hungary. Ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend, I want to share my support for those affected by the governments’ anti-LGBTQ+ law. It is unacceptable, cowardly and misguiding for those in power suggest such a law,” wrote the seven-time F1 world champion.

“Everyone deserves to have the freedom to be themselves, no matter who they love or how they identify. I urge the people of Hungary to vote in the upcoming referendum to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, they need our support more than ever.

“Please show love for those around you because Love will always win. Sending positivity. #lgbtq”

Since Orban’s access to power in Hungary in 2010, the country’s government has introduced a number of measures considered as discriminatory by the international community.

In December 2020, the Hungarian parliament banned same-sex couples from adopting children, while earlier this year, it adopted legislation preventing people from legally changing their gender.

Hungary also does not recognise gay marriage.
