Ahead of this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam 2018 pay-per-view, Becky Lynch took part in a media conference call to promote the big event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Featured below are some of the highlights from the media call, which features “The Lass Kicker” talking about the rivalry between Tea-Generation X and The Ilconics, her upcoming title shot at SummerSlam and more.

On whether or not it bothered her that she earned her shot at the title whereas Charlotte was added after returning: “Yeah, of course it does. Of course it does, I’m not going to be happy about it. Friendship and everything aside, it has been something that I’ve been working for my entire life, and it’s something I’ve been focusing on, and I’ve been on a winning streak and a hot streak, and there was nobody that could beat me. I feel like it’s a testament to my mindset, and my work, and of course when you get a spanner thrown in the works, it is going to irritate you.

“But it’s just more of a setback that I’m now used to, to climb the mountain. To overcome obstacles, it has been (that way) my whole career. Nothing comes easy for me, but that’s what makes every victory that bit sweeter.”

On how far women have come on the main WWE roster after she helped lead the way being part of the initial women’s revolution in the company: “It’s unbelievable! When you think about the (journey); you know how it was, right? The women weren’t the… it wasn’t really that they were the stars of the show. Their matches were often seen as bathroom breaks and when I signed, that’s one thing I told myself, that I want to change. I wanted to make women’s wrestling something cool, something people would want to see. And Sasha, Bayley and Charlotte… they all had the exact same thing.

“And when we were on NXT, we were having these matches that were comparable to the guys, you know? Often times we stole the show, and of course, on the main roster, they were having 30 second matches. They did not have the time to develop the story, and to get people to care because of that, and that was what started the whole hashtag ‘Give Divas A Chance’ with Nikki Bella, and I can’t remember who she was in there with, maybe it was with Paige, or I could be getting it wrong.

“But anyway, they started flooding the social media, and did what they could when given the chance. So that was the whole theme, to be given the chance. And as far as the whole ‘revolution’ turned into ‘evolution’ goes, we just, we made sure to go out and steal the show time and time again, in tables matches, in ladders matches, Royal Rumble, Hell In A Cell… the list goes on and on, and here we are, at an all-women pay-per-view.”

On Tea-Generation X with Charlotte: “So, you know that too – chic Kermit the Frog meme, right? Where he’s drinking tea like, ‘Well, that’s none of my business!’ And that’s a term we use here, where we talk about spilling the tea, and talking about the gossip right? So, then it was me and (Charlotte) sip the tea, and that’s kind of how it all started. That was just one little snippet, and then there were ‘Tea’ signs everywhere when we went out for tag team matches, and the fans started picking up on it, and there was the name that we came up with.”

On the animosity between Tea-Generation X and The Ilconics: “I think they are very noisy for people that haven’t done anything yet. You know, you’re looking at former champions, and people who will go down in the history books for revolutionizing women’s wrestling. Meanwhile, I don’t think they’ve won a single match since they’ve been on SmackDown Live… maybe — maybe one between (them)?! And so I say bring it. You can keep talking, but try to get in the ring and back it up. That’s what we do every time when we get in there.”

Jeff Hardy On Changing His Facepaint, Theme Song In WWE

Ahead of this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam 2018 pay-per-view at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Jeff Hardy spoke with the European market to promote the big event. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On what happened backstage to bring back his famous facepaint: “I think right when I came back from rotator cuff surgery Michael Hayes or somebody asked, ‘hey do you want to paint your face again?’ was like, ‘Yeah! Of course, I do! I’d love to!

“So I guess the whole thing winning the United States Championship and heading forward it was like, ‘maybe we’ll let him do his own thing since he’s not with Matt.’ Because I asked several times with Matt and they wouldn’t let me do it on TV, I just did it at the live events. It was kinda weird. I think it’s one of those things that’s definitely better to do when I’m doing my singles stuff.”

On being excited to show off the extra facepaint on his eyelids, ala his Impact Wrestling character, in WWE: “That eyelid thing is really tough [to apply] it’s challenging, but once I’ve seen what I created it’s all worth it. When I painted my face in ’08-’09 back in the day, I hadn’t come up with that yet. So it’s cool to be here in WWE — because I did it in TNA for so long and it was so cool and I had dreams of doing it here and here we are.”

On not using the same entrance music as his last WWE run and why he was forced to switch things up: “If we could get ‘No More Words’ back but the band evidently broke up. A lot of people thought that I sung that song, but that was Endeverafter’s song, but I miss that dearly. I know a lot of my fans want to hear that more than anything. Because in my opinion, it’s better to save that Hardy Boyz music for the Hardy Boyz. I don’t feel comfortable using it, but I’m not going to complain.

“It might be time to do something completely fresh. But I definitely more than anything right now what’s missing from the Jeff Hardy character on SmackDown is my own entrance music. I need something new and fresh if I don’t get to use ‘No More Words.'”

Wade Barrett Talks Working With CM Punk On Camera For Netflix

Ahead of the new season of Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix, which he co-hosts along with CM Punk and others, former WWE Superstar Wade “Bad News” Barrett spoke with the folks from TV Insider for an interview to promote the series. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On Batista and The Rock making the move from WWE to Hollywood: “Somebody from [The Rock’s] background similar to mine coming from the pro wrestling world … You look at the success he has had going from the wrestling world into the acting world. He has kicked down a ton of doors for pro wrestlers. Those in the industry are taking it a bit more serious now because of what he has done and other guys like [Dave] Bautista. Once upon a time it was ridiculous to perceive an ex-pro wrestler being in the acting world.”

On being the U.K. host on Ultimate Beastmaster and working with CM Punk on camera: “You imagine Ninja Warrior being the obstacle course challenge show. Now imagine it with a few extra bells and whistles. They have me come in and host the British team. I enjoyed that. The cool thing about it is also CM Punk being one of the U.S. hosts. You get to see us interact on camera again. It was good to see him. I haven’t seen him in a few years. He is doing great for himself and seems to be enjoying his life away from WWE. I was happy to reconnect with him and see what he is doing.”

On working his way up the ladder in WWE: “When I was in WWE I went from being a complete nobody to a main event guy in 2010. I was battling all the top stars like John Cena and Randy Orton. People asked me then if I felt the pressure of being in the top spot. Did I feel the pressure of everyone watching what I was doing? The true answer is no. The pressure I felt in my wrestling career was when I was the guy who wasn’t known and had to try and build a name for myself and build a career for myself.”

WWE Rumors: Charlotte Flair, WrestleMania 35, Matt Hardy, more

— Odds for the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble recently made their way online and the favorite for the event is currently Charlotte Flair. This would make sense as WWE still has tentatively planned for Charlotte to face WWE Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35, despite the recent rumors that Cris Cyborg might be interested in meeting Rousey there instead. One WWE source suggested that the reports of Cyborg coming to WWE to wrestle Rousey have no truth to it whatsoever as it is an idea that WWE isn’t even considering at the moment.

— With Matt Hardy publicly retiring from his injuries, WWE – as noted – has been using him in a backstage capacity as an agent/producer on their shows. There is always the possibility that Hardy will be able to return sometime down the road if aggressive rehab allows him to recover from his injuries, but that is considered a long shot. With Hardy’s charisma, there have been some people pushing to have him back on TV in a managerial or non-wrestling (GM?) capacity in order to continue to capitalize on his skills.

— In the meantime though, Matt has hinted at going back and spending time with his family when his contract officially expires next March.

Backstage News on Becky Lynch's Return & Upcoming Triple Threat TLC Match

— While some people have questioned WWE’s decision in putting Becky Lynch into a TLC match coming off a concussion, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE’s thinking on the matter is that “if you are cleared, you are cleared”, meaning if you have the green-light from the medical staff, it is a full return to in-ring competition without any restrictions.

— The inclusion of Asuka to make it a triple threat match is likely WWE’s way to get out of a finish without compromising either Becky Lynch or Charlotte Flair and also without any of the three “having to do a job” since Flair is booked into a program with Ronda Rousey early in 2019 and then Becky Lynch is to follow, likely for WrestleMania 35.

Coulthard: Schumacher ‘would see his equal’ in Hamilton

Former F1 driver David Coulthard says a Michael Schumacher in his prime today would be “staring in the eyes of his equal” if he competed against Lewis Hamilton.

Coulthard chimed in on the great debate comparing the two F1 legends after Hamilton broke even with the great German in Turkey, where the Mercedes driver clinched his seventh world crown.

Coulthard, who raced against both Schumacher and Hamilton, insists both drivers are on the same exceptional level.

“There is no question that if Michael was still racing today, at his prime, he would be staring in the eyes of his equal,” the Channel 4 pundit and 13-time Grand Prix winner told Stats Perform News.

“Because I think Michael is exceptional and I think Lewis is exceptional. And I think the way that he won his championship in Istanbul was the perfect way to show how good he is.

“Coming from sixth on the grid, in very difficult conditions and to win by what was quite a big margin in the end.

“So there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is the real deal and not only is he one of the best drivers of his generation, arguably he is one of the best drivers in the history of the sport.”

Schumacher won five of his seven titles with Ferrari during a period of commanding domination of F1 by the House of Maranello, not unlike Mercedes’ current supremacy.

But today, the Italian outfit is in search of a turnaround of its fortunes following one of the most disappointing campaigns in its modern-day history.

However, Coulthard believes Ferrari will bounce back in the future.

“They recognise that they have obviously had some issues, and the feedback they were getting from their development, the CFD, the wind tunnel, and what has actually happened out on the racetrack,” said the Scot.

“There has also been a clarification on the engine which means that they haven’t been able to extract the same performance.

“But in Charles Leclerc they have an exceptional young driver, they have got Carlos [Sainz] coming there.

“What I think is actually a bit confusing is the drop-off in performance of Sebastian Vettel, which you just wouldn’t expect from a driver of that quality.

“But it is what it is, Ferrari will be back in the future, next year’s regulations are small changes, but they could be significant in terms of what happens around the rear of the car, aerodynamically.

“I believe Ferrari have a new engine in development which should hopefully bring them forward. So in the same way that they were dominant for a period with Michael [Schumacher], and then Red Bull were dominant, now Mercedes are dominant – every cycle comes to an end, and Ferrari will be back.”
