Former WWE Women’s and Divas Champion Mickie James looks set to make her WWE main roster return for the first time in six years tonight on SmackDown Live.
Mickie made her first appearance for the company since the birth of her first child back in November when she faced Asuka at NXT Takeover: Toronto for the NXT Women’s Championship. Despite the fact that she failed to defeat the Japanese superstar, Triple H still stated that he was interested in signing the former Champion and she agreed to a three-year contract.
Mickie was scheduled to return to the company sometime this month and has since had to cancel all her planned Independent dates. It is thought that she will be revealed as the one behind the La Luchadora mask during Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss’s steel Cage Women’s Championship match tonight.
It is not yet known what the long-term plan for Mickie is, but she did do much of her best work back in 2005/2006 as one of best female heel characters in the company.

Going into Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that current plans do not have current WWE Champion AJ Styles and current WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens going into WrestleMania 33 as champions.
Styles is set to defend against John Cena on Sunday while Owens will be defending against Roman Reigns. It’s also been confirmed that the WWE Title will be defended at February’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, inside the Chamber. The RAW brand has the Fastlane pay-per-view in February.
The Observer adds that the WrestleMania line-up at this point looks like Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho, Shaquille O’Neal vs. Big Show, The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton and RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Nia Jax vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks.
There are rumors on Orton winning the Rumble match and Wyatt winning the Chamber match, setting up their match for the WWE Title at WrestleMania. The Observer notes that if that does not happen, it’s because plans changed.
It’s likely that either Taker vs. Reigns, Jericho vs. Owens or Goldberg vs. Lesnar would be for the WWE Universal Title but Owens vs. Jericho makes more sense as the United States Title match as Jericho currently holds that belt.
WWE NXT Superstar Samoa Joe is expected to be called up soon with a push and Joe vs. Cena at WrestleMania has been pitched. There have also been rumors of Styles vs. Shane McMahon.

A team of expert divers will continue looking for the last two missing victims of the White Island eruption on Saturday, after the New Zealand Defence Force and police recovered six bodies from the island on Friday in a high-risk operation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mike Clement had warned that “a lot will have to go right” for the mission to succeed, and scientists had alerted police to a 50-60 per cent chance of another eruption, but the operation went to plan.
On Friday morning Police Commissioner Mike Bush said in a statement that “at least one body is in the water” and divers on the police vessel Deodar were attempting to recover that body.
“We’re making every effort to locate and recover the two remaining deceased,” Commissioner Bush said.“This has been a harrowing event for the Whakatane community and those family and friends directly impacted by the eruption of White Island [also known as Whakaari] on Monday,” he said.
“The operation today went to plan and we would like to recognise our partners at NZDF who have provided the specialist skills and resources to help us deliver this part of the operation… The operation was not without risk but thanks to sound planning and the skills of the specialist team involved we have recovered the six bodies.”
Commissioner Bush said the environment the recovery team faced was “highly unpredictable and challenging”.
GNS Science volcanologist Graham Leonard had warned that in addition to the risk of eruption, the mission would face an environment in which it would, at times, be difficult to breathe and see.
Pictures of the recovery operation showed pairs of military personnel wearing breathing apparatus scouring the lunar-like landscape as inflatable dinghies and a police launch waited offshore.
Commissioner Bush said the recovery team “showed absolute courage and commitment to ensure we can offer some closure to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones”.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and we thank Iwi [the Maori people] and the local community for their support of the victims of this tragedy,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after the six bodies were retrieved, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said questions over why people were allowed to visit the active volcano “must be answered, and will be answered”.

An investigation is being conducted on behalf of the coroner, and an occupational health and safety investigation is also being conducted by WorkSafe, New Zealand’s peak workplace safety organisation.
The Prime Minister said the time would come for accountability, but added “we also need to respect the phase we’re in now, with families only just getting their loved ones back”.
There are now 14 confirmed dead from the tragedy. Twenty-six people remain in hospital receiving intensive medical treatment for severe burns, the majority of whom are in critical condition.
The volcano, a popular tourist destination for day-trippers, erupted on Monday, spewing ash, steam and gases over the island. Among the 47 people on the island at the time were Australian, US, German, Chinese, British and Malaysian tourists.
A 23-year-old rape victim is in critical condition after being set on fire by a group of men, including two of her alleged rapists, as she made her way to court in northern India on Thursday.
It came after thousands took to the streets of several cities on Monday to protest the brutal rape and murder of a 27-year-old vet in Hyderabad and called for the rape cases to be fast-tracked and for rapists to be given tougher punishments.
A June 2018 survey of 550 experts on women’s issues by the Thomson Reuters Foundation found India was the worst country in the world for sexual violence against women.
32,000 rapes were recorded by the National Crime Records Bureau in 2017 although 99 per cent of attacks are thought to go unreported. India also ranked top for human trafficking for domestic work, forced labour, forced marriage and sexual slavery.
The 23-year-old victim was on her way to catch a train to a court hearing in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh when the mob doused her in kerosene and set her alight.
Doctors treating the victim at the Civil Hospital in the regional capital of Lucknow said she had suffered 90 per cent burns and would be flown in an air ambulance for further treatment in Delhi.
Police documents show the woman had filed a case with police in Unnao, alleging she was raped at gun-point in December, 2018.
Her alleged rapist was released suddenly last week after securing bail, a police spokesperson said. It is not the first time that even the Unnao district has made headlines over a rape case.
Police opened a murder investigation in July against a lawmaker from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after he allegedly orchestrated a fatal car crash against a minor who had accused him of rape.
During Monday’s outpouring of anger, one member of parliament suggested that India’s rape problem could only be solved by publicly lynching attackers.
On Thursday, police in the state of Madhya Pradesh confirmed they had arrested a man on suspicion of raping and murdering a 4-year-old girl on December 1. Local media also reported a teenager was allegedly gang-raped and killed in the state of Bihar on Tuesday.

Daniel Ricciardo will seek the opinion of his peers in this Friday’s drivers’ briefing on the defensive moves committed by Haas’ Romain Grosjean in last weekend’s British Grand Prix.
Ricciardo sparred with the Frenchman in the race and struggled to overhaul the Haas driver who executed several defensive moves under braking against the Renault charger but also McLaren’s Carlos Sainz.
Grosjean’s antics were eventually called out by the stewards who handed a post-race warning to the Frenchman, but the latter was unapologetic, insisting his maneuvers were perhaps extreme but within the rules.
But Ricciardo wants clarification once and for all on the moves, believing that an “open conversation” on the matter between the drivers will perhaps help bring Grosjean back in line.
“We’ll probably bring it up in the next drivers’ meeting, just to get the other views,” Ricciardo said. “But I’m sure everyone is on board, it was just a little too late.
“Back in 2016, Max [Verstappen] was doing it a few times under braking and we addressed it, and I felt like we had moved on from that.
“Behaviour has been pretty good from memory, for the most part, the last few years.
“I gave Romain my opinion of it and tried to give him a pretty diplomatic answer. If we bring it up in the drivers’ briefing on Friday, open a conversation again, he’ll realise it a bit more.
