Ready, willing and Gable: Chad Gable’s road to NXT

Click:Vuurwerk

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. It’s a phrase that has become a staple of society, applicable to those both young and old. However, the statement has also become a rallying cry for one of NXT’s newest faces, Chad Gable. After months of trying to convince Jason Jordan that both men could form a highly successful tag team, Jordan finally agreed. The team hasn’t looked back since.

“Even though it took some convincing for him to give me a chance, I couldn’t be happier with the results,” Gable told WWE.com. “We just clicked from the moment the bell rang. It’s not very often that a team has chemistry from the very first moment. Beyond our chemistry, we have enough credentials between us to make any team jealous.” Continue reading at www.wwe.com

Kane Remains Committed To WWE Crown Jewel, Vince McMahon Comments

Earlier this month, a spokesman for Glenn Jacobs (Kane) told The Knoxville News Sentinel that Kane still planned to wrestle on the upcoming WWE Crown Jewel on November 2nd in Saudi Arabia despite the controversy surrounding the event. Back in August, Jacobs became the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
This was his comment at the time, through Jacobs’ spokesman, Rob Link:
“Mayor Jacobs won’t speculate on Mr. [Jamal] Khashoggi’s disappearance,” Link said. “However, he and his family are in the mayor’s thoughts and prayers.”

Last month it was announced that WWE was donating $100,000 to The Knoxville Public Safety Foundation for Kane’s upcoming appearances. The money will go to The Knoxville Public Safety Foundation, which benefits employees of The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office & University of Tennessee’s Police Department. The KPSF supports employees and their families that have suffered catastrophic injuries, illness, death or other significant events.
WWE will be presenting a check to the foundation at the next WWE Live Event in Knoxville, which is tentatively scheduled for January 2019.
In an update to Knoxville New Sentinel, Kane remains committed to WWE and The Knoxville Public Safety Foundation.
“Mayor Jacobs is still going to The Crown Jewel Event because he made a commitment to not only The WWE, but The Knoxville Public Safety Foundation and the first responders of Knoxville and Knox County.”

Through a press release, Vince McMahon echoed these sentiments about WWE’s donation, as seen below:
“We’re happy to support this charity of behalf of Mayor Jacobs,” WWE CEO Vince McMahon said in a press release. “Much like his unparalleled contributions to advancing the WWE brand during his stellar career of more than 20 years, Mayor Jacobs has begun work to improve Knox County.”

USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll – Nov. 10, 2015

by Jason Bryant

USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll sees minimal change after opening competitions; Virginia, Central Michigan enter Top 25

Manheim, Pa. – The top 12 teams in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll were unchanged as the first poll of the regular season was released on Tuesday.

Oklahoma State, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio State remained in the top five. None of the five teams saw dual meet action since the season’s start on November 1. That will change this week as No. 4 Iowa hosts No. 1 Oklahoma State at the Grapple on the Gridiron, a dual meet held on the football field at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. The event, weather permitting, is expected to shatter the NCAA single-dual attendance record set by Penn State on Dec. 8, 2013 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Cowboys again garnered 10 of the 12 possibe first-place votes. Penn State and Michigan each received one first-place vote.

There was some movement as a result of Virginia Tech’s 32-3 victory over then-No. 13 Iowa State on Saturday. While the Hokies stayed up at No. 6, the Cyclones fell five spots to No. 18.

Lehigh got pushed by Bucknell 23-12 in the EIWA opener, but the Mountain Hawks remained at No. 7.

With Iowa State falling five spots, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Old Dominion each moved up a spot. Minnesota moved up a spot to No. 16 as the Golden Gophers defeated South Dakota State, Grand Canyon and Virginia at home on Saturday.

West Virginia jumped two spots after opening up with wins over Drexel, Campbell and Arizona State.

Virginia moved into the Top 25 after knocking off then-No. 25 North Dakota State 25-14 in Fargo, N.D. on Friday. Central Michigan also broke into the Top 25 after wins over Rider and Purdue at the Eastern Michigan Duals.

Edinboro and North Dakota State fell out of the Top 25.

ROH, Impact Wrestling Stars Agree to Champion vs. Champion Match

Ring of Honor champ Jay Lethal and Impact Wrestling champ Johnny Impact have agreed to a title-for-title match at the Chris Jericho Rock-N-Rager At Sea cruise, according to a report by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.
“We don’t have the date and place confirmed,” wrote Meltzer. “Impact and ROH have talked about this months ago, the idea of a match with neither title at stake.”
Earlier this year, then Impact champion Austin Aries worked a number of ROH shows in a program with Kenny King.

Lucha Underground Title Changes Hands Twice At Ultima Lucha 4

Ultima Lucha Cuatro promised a lot of twists and turns and gave just that in the main event of the recently concluded season four finale of Lucha Underground.
The main event saw Pentagon Dark defeat Marty “The Moth” Martinez to win back The Lucha Underground Title. The show seemed as if it would end with Pentagon Dark having his hand raised in victory after a bloody war with Martinez.
But as Pentagon Dark was about to break Martinez’s arm after the match, Reklusa tried to save the former Lucha Underground Champion only to have Vampiro come in and help out Pentagon Dark. Vampiro would later turn on Pentagon Dark, who revealed that he had been working under a master. The ensuing attack left Pentagon Dark lying in the middle of the ring and too hurt to even move. Below is what happened in the main event of Ultima Lucha Cuatro Part Two, which can also be read at this link:
Jake Strong, the new Gift Of The Gods Champion, enters the ring and says that he is going to cash in his shot at The Lucha Underground Title by trading away his Gift Of The Gods Title.
Pentagon Dark (c) vs. Jake Strong (Lucha Underground Title Match): Strong immediately starts going for the ankle lock and keeps it applied for about a minute. Pentagon is no longer responding to the referee’s commands and so the match is called and Strong is the new Lucha Underground Champion. Winner & The New Lucha Underground Champion: Jake Strong
This is the second title Strong has won in Lucha Underground after making his debut earlier this year. Strong won The Gift Of The Gods Title on The October 24th Episode of Lucha Underground and is the second titleholder this season to exchange his title for a shot at The Lucha Underground Title.

Strowman Earns 2 Matches, E&C Pod Returns, Bellas vs. Kardashians

During WWE’s Survivor Series pay-per-view this weekend, Braun Strowman will be representing the men’s Raw team in the 5-on-5 elimination match against members of the SmackDown roster. Once Survivor Series ends, it appears “The Monster Among Men” may turn his attention back towards the Universal Championship. During Raw last night, Stephanie McMahon granted Strowman a rematch against Brock Lesnar for his title if he helps Raw win at Survivor Series. Additionally, Braun Strowman will also receive his requested match against Baron Corbin with a stipulation of his choosing, but it was noted he cannot lay a finger on the acting Raw General Manager until after Survivor Series ends this Sunday night.

Prior to Raw last night, WWE Hall of Famer Edge teased a major announcement. Not only were he and Christian featured on last night’s season finale of the Ride Along program on the WWE Network, but the former world champion also had another big surprise in store for his fans. Edge and Christian’s E&C Pod of Awesomeness podcast will be returning following a weeks-long hiatus. Not only will the show be coming back very soon, but the upcoming edition of the show will feature guest appearances from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels and musician Nita Strauss. Edge and Christian are also going to be partnering with Westwood One to bring on the new episode of their popular podcast this Friday.

This Friday, the monster that will not die is back. That’s right hosers! This Friday @EandCPod is back baby!!! Nikki and Brie Bella are not only successful wrestlers, but they both star in two successful reality shows on the E! network. Total Divas and Total Bellas are still going strong on E!, but a different pair of sisters are still dominating the network as of right now: The Kardashians. Nikki and Brie were both present for the People’s Choice Awards this past Sunday night, and the twins boldly threw out an open challenge for the Kardashian sisters during a red carpet interview. As of right now, there has not been any sort of response from the members of the Kardashian family. Regardless, a match between the Kardashians and The Bella Twins would certainly be an interesting one if it ever does end up taking place someday.

FIGURE FOUR WEEKLY: 3/6/2017: Bad booking disappoints at WWE Fastlane

Goldberg is one of WWE’s top champions in 2017. That it was a formality doesn’t make the reality of that sentence any less startling. Nearly 20 years after his peak in WCW, and over a decade after his first stint with WWE came to an end, Goldberg is going to main event WrestleMania. All of that was locked in when Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens to win the WWE Universal Championship at Fastlane. Predictably, the main event was a wrestling match in name only. Goldberg won with a spear and a jackhammer in just over 20 seconds…

John Cena proposes to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania

Sorry, ladies: John Cena is officially a taken man, proposing to longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella at WrestleMania Sunday.

To no one’s surprise, she said yes.

Following Cena and Bella’s mixed tag win over The Miz and Maryse on the Mania undercard, an emotional Cena did a promo talking about how he told Bella as she was going into neck surgery that he would one day marry her.

He got down on one knee, pulled out a big engagement ring, and Bella (real name Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace) said yes. Both were in tears, and hugged family members at ringside afterward.

This will be the second marriage for both the 39-year-old Cena and the 33-year-old Bella. This was Bella’s last match before she takes time off to heal her injured neck, while Cena is taking an extended absence to focus on Hollywood projects.

This storyline of sorts has been playing out on Total Divas and Total Bellas with Cena showing hesitancy to propose. Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez predicted the proposal on Wrestling Observer Radio some time ago, and considering Cena’s relatives were prominent at ringside, as well as Today personality Al Roker doing ring introductions, this was a virtual lock.

FIGURE FOUR WEEKLY: 4/18/2017: Shibata vs. Okada underscores the dangers of pro wrestling

I wasn’t thinking about the headbutt that may have ended Katsuyori Shibata’s career when the main event of Sakura Genesis ended. Instead, I was impulsively trying to fit Shibata vs. Kazuchika Okada into the hierarchy of matches I’ve seen over the past few years. I knew that it was my favorite match of the year so far, even surpassing Okada vs. Kenny Omega from the Tokyo Dome. It comfortably surpassed anything from 2016 for me as well, and I may have been able to go back further if it wasn’t for the fear of recency bias affecting my judgment too much.

One of the two remaining roadblocks to the WWF/CBS deal was removed this past week when Chris-Craft Industries, Inc. agreed to sell its half of UPN to Viacom for $5 million. Chris-Craft had sought to block a clause in its dual ownership contract of UPN with Viacom, which gave either side the right to order the other to either sell its half or buy out the other company’s half. Viacom had, through that clause, ordered Chris-Craft to make a decision by 3/20.

THURSDAY NEWS UPDATE

TNA starts tapings tonight. They will be taping nightly through Sunday for TV for the month of May.

Time Magazine today named Conor McGregor one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He was the second UFC fighter to make the list, as Ronda Rousey made it last year.

Speaking of Rousey, she and boyfriend Travis Browne announced their engagement today. Rousey said that Browne proposed to her while they were under a waterfall while on vacation in New Zealand. Rousey told TMZ that they didn’t have a date or a location planned.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Bushi, Seiya Sanada and Kenny Omega have all been added to the ROH War of the Worlds tour. Omega thus far has only been announced for the 5/7 show in Toronto. The main event in Toronto is Omega & Young Bucks vs. Tanahashi, Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian.

We’ve got two cool and very different shows up on the site, with interviews with Kushida from last night and Pete Gasparino (Pete Gas) from today.

Very sorry to report the death of Doc Young, who was part of this site for many years. He had been in poor health for some time. Also wanted to mention that we got terrible news today of the death of Dave Korner, who was one of my best friends dating back to college and not only was he one of the first subscribers to the Observer but he was one of the people who pretty much was responsible for me starting the newsletter. He was a regular at our house for pro wrestling PPV shows and was also the person who introduced me to Brad Muster when he was playing at Stanford.

WWE
Roman Reigns is off the WWE weekend house shows. I’m presuming this has to do with the death of his brother but he was pulled from the advertising of the dates. He is scheduled for Raw on Monday.
“Guardians of the Galaxy,” had its premiere in Hollywood last night. The movie opens in the U.S. on 5/5 with Dave Bautista as one of the top stars. It’s going to be one of the biggest movies of the year.

KDKA television in Pittsburgh is putting together a tour of Italy where Bruno Sammartino will be coming for the first few days. The tour will hit Abruzzi, Italy and then Pizzoferrato, the town he grew up in, for the San Domenico Festival and a dedication to Sammartino.
David Otunga will be appearing on TMZ Live tonight talking about his movies that are coming out.
UFC/MMA
Miguel Torres, who was considered one of the top fighters in the sport in 2008-09 as WEC bantamweight champion, announced his retirement today.
The announcing team for Saturday’s UFC show from Nashville will be Todd Grisham doing play-by-play with Brian Stann.
Miscellaneous
Dan Hinkles, the creator of 5 Star Wrestling, which we hadn’t heard much about since its television show in the U.K. where they announced a tournament, has announced its next show on 6/10 in Liverpool at the Echo Arena featuring John Morrison, Carlito and P.J. Black. This will be the first show of their planned 128 man tournament that will take place over 30 weeks. Tickets for the show went on sale today at 5 p.m. at 5starwrestling.co.uk
A remake of GLOW called Women of Wrestling was announced today by MGM Television partners and Mark Burnett, who were behind Lucha Underground. Burnett will work with Jeanie Buss of Los Angeles Lakers fame, as well as David McLane, who put together GLOW, for the new TV series.
Rey Mysterio will be appearing Saturday night at the MCW show in Joppa, MD with a 4 p.m meet and greet. Lio Rush faces Travis Flip Gordon on the show, that also includes The Ecktourage vs. Paul Jordane & Bill Collier for the tag team titles vacated by the Hardys.
