Police were braced for further protests in the eastern German city of Chemnitz on Monday, after far-Right rioters tore through the streets attacking people they believed to be migrants on Sunday afternoon.
A crowd of around 800 people gathered in the city Sunday afternoon to protest after a man was killed in a fight between “a number of people of different nationalities,” local police said.
Three men in their thirties were injured during the incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning during a street festival, according to Chemnitz police.
Unconfirmed rumours being circulated online said the fight between around ten men may have kicked off after a woman was harassed in the street.
The spontaneous protest that erupted on Sunday afternoon following the incident quickly turned violent and witness reports and videos show people chasing and attacking foreign people.
Where did the AfD get most support?
In one incident, rioters ran through a local park shouting racist slogans and chasing a man of foreign background, a witness told Germany’s MRD public broadcaster.
When he fell, the men punched and kicked him as he lay on the ground, the witness said. Videos circulating on Twitter show protesters attacking people and chanting racist slogans.
Police also said some people were hostile towards them and threw bottles.
Police were forced to call in backup from the cities of Leipzig and Dresden to deal with the protest, which thinned out by Sunday evening.
On Monday tensions remain high and police were braced for further rival protests. Steffen Seibert, Angela Merkel’s spokesman, said on Monday that the government condemns the attacks “in the strongest terms”.
"Ganging up like that, hunting down people who look different or have a different ethnicity, attempts to spread hatred on the streets – we won’t accept that," he said.
The protests were organised spontaneously by far-right groups, including the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany party (AfD), which is currently the biggest opposition party in Germany’s parliament.

Markus Frohnmaier, an AfD politician, tweeted that "when the state can no longer protect its citizens they go onto the streets and protect themselves".
"Today it’s a citizen’s duty to stop the lethal ‘knife migration’!" he wrote, referring to the increased number of migrants that have entered Germany in recent years.
"It could have targeted your father, son or brother!" he added.
The right-wing “Kaotic Chemnitz” football group also gathered crowds using social media, Germany’s Bild newspaper reported.
The group, known for football hooliganism, on Twitter said it said it wanted to "show who is in charge in the city".
Barbara Ludwig, the Mayor of Chemnitz, told MRD broadcaster that she is “horrified".
"The fact that it’s possible for people to meet, accumulate and destroy a city festival, run through the city and threaten people – that’s terrible," she said. "I’m incensed over what happened here on Sunday."
Watching WWE television in 2017 can often be a frustrating experience. Few storylines play out in the way that we would like and many spiral out of control, losing the semblance of where they began. When one comes along that is booked right, it feels strangely special and fresh. When it pays off, we feel satisfied and validated that the thing that we love still has relevance and power.
Out this week, the new WWE DVD collection — Fight Owens Fight – The Kevin Owens Story — tells a narrative that is almost uniquely perfect. Powerful, rounded, and satisfying, the hour-long documentary charts the rise of Kevin Steen to Kevin Owens and his dream of performing for this company and winning its ultimate title.
The DVD is the story of a man driven to succeed in an industry that has almost always been about aesthetics, where talent and desire can be overlooked in favor of physique and tone. Owens’ passion to work for the biggest wrestling company on Earth to do what he does is obvious and the number who doubted him are countless.
The underdog overcoming adversity might seem an all too familiar narrative in the age of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, but the Owens version is presented in such a convincing way here that it feels like the first.
Owens had been at this for 15 years before he got to be where he wanted and it shouldn’t be underestimated. That wonderful moment where the then-NXT Champion was face-to-face with John Cena on his first Raw in 2015, telling Cena where he could stick his “veteran advice” was the perfect blurring between fiction and truth.
And if the documentary has a fault, it is probably just that: the all too irritating WWE style of unnecessarily distorting reality to fit in with their version of events. But a significant plus is that Owens’ career in ROH allows us to see what we normally wouldn’t for a star who has come in from, say, TNA as we get a taste for some of his work pre-NXT and footage of his excellent work in ROH.
Seeing Owens sit down to talk in-depth about his private and professional life overwhelmingly illustrates that he is a complete and dedicated family man. Yes, his family starts at home with his wife and two children, but it extends into his work. The likes of Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, Neville, and Jimmy Jacobs are very much a close-knit unit of support and trust; a surrogate family that has been as consistent as any household. His parents are also still central in his life which makes the man all the more grounded and likeable.
With every year that goes by with Owens on the main roster, his library of high quality matches will grow exponentially, but for now, that inarguable quality is mainly limited to his big event/PPV matches. Thus, fans will have the usual gripe: if you are a WWE Network subscriber, you are largely buying this for the documentary and for a couple of matches that you can’t currently access. One such match is a strong tag team bout taped in Paris with Owens working alongside Triple H against Sami Zayn and Dean Ambrose.
The strong case for parting with your money is just as it has been over the last few years with these WWE DVD collections: the company is the master at documenting absolutely everything.
There is always a camera in the right place and the right time, often following Owens at spike points in his career. That means you get the unique backstage insight into his work and interactions with others, and if you’re a staunch fan of Owens, that alone will probably feel priceless.
For hardcore fans of Kevin Owens, Fight Owens Fight won’t tell you much that you didn’t already know. It probably won’t show you matches that you haven’t already seen. In fact, it won’t make you think about wrestling in any particularly new or profound way. But what it will do is show you how hard Kevin Owens has worked to get to where he is and, more importantly, it will tell you a wholly satisfying, true story.
The Spanish government has agreed to reinstate a shipment of 400 precision-guided bombs to Saudi Arabia, in an embarrassing climbdown after its decision to suspend the order over human rights concerns sparked a diplomatic stand-off.
Madrid had been applauded for suspending the delivery of the bombs amid fears they could be used in the war in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition has been accused of widespread abuses.
But the announcement last week by the Spanish defence minister drew immediate retaliation from Riyadh, which threatened to withdraw a contract for the construction of five warships in the Andalusian region of Cadiz.
Workers at Navantia, the Spanish shipbuilder due to build the five corvettes, took to the streets in protest at the potential loss of the €1.8 billion (£1.6 billion) contract and with it up to 6,000 jobs.
The dispute prompted the intervention of the Andalusian autonomous government, which warned Madrid over its duty to support employment in one of Spain’s poorest regions.
At a glance | Yemen
After days of backsliding, Josep Borrell, the Spanish foreign minister, confirmed on Thursday the sale of the bombs would now go ahead.
The government had studied the issue and found "no reason" to pull the contract, he told the radio station Onda Cero.
Human rights groups criticised Spain’s capitulation, warning that the country could be complicit in war crimes and that the type of bomb being sold had previously been used against civilian targets in Yemen.
As in Britain, Spain’s sale of arms to Saudi Arabia is mired in controversy, which has grown as claims of rights violations and war crimes in Yemen have mounted.
In the northern ports of Santander and Bilbao, locals have protested against the docking of Saudi ship the Bahri to collect weapons shipments.
Now barred from Bilbao, the Bahri returned to Santander last week despite opposition from the regional parliament of Cantabria, which has urged Madrid to comply with international obligations on "avoiding the transport of arms which are going to be used for the violation of human rights".
The EU is under growing pressure to introduce an embargo on arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
The impact of such a ban would fall most heavily on Britain – at least while it remains in the bloc – which far outstrips any other EU state, with 48 percent of its arms sales going to the Middle Eastern kingdom.
Renault’s protest against Racing Point is about getting clarity on the level of exchanges that shall be permitted between teams in the future, according to the French outfit’s executive director Marcin Budkowski.
Renault lodged a protest against Racing Point’s controversial RP20 car after last Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix, aiming its complaint at the similarities that exist between the pink car and Mercedes’ championship winning 2019 W10.
Renault has decided to focus on one specific element of the RP20 – its brake ducts, a “listed” part that a team must design on its own. But the ruling will also address the general principles that govern the exchange of information and intellectual property between teams.
In this respect, Renault’s protest reflects the manufacturer’s opposition to a model that would allow a more collaborative process between teams in the future.
“For us it’s important to clarify what is permissible and what isn’t — for this season, for the event we protest and for next season — but also what Formula 1 we want in the future and the model we want,” Budkowski said.
“Do we want a model where there’s 10 teams independently fighting each other?
“Especially in the context of probably a fairer sport — a more equal distribution of funds, a cost cap, so all teams eventually coming to a similar level of spending, maybe not straight away but with time. So we think there’s a great opportunity, together with the 2022 technical regulations with a car being able to follow each other and overtake each other — so better racing — we think there’s a great opportunity for the sport to have 10 teams or maybe more fighting each other on equal terms.
“For us it’s important to clarify what sort of level of changes is permissible. Is it permissible to get parts and get geometries from another team and use them on your car or not?
“Because we don’t think that’s the right model for F1 in the future. So it’s really beyond the protest, beyond this race, it’s what kind of model we want for the future of F1.”
Racing Point adamant Renault protest is ‘misconceived’
In its protest, Renault singled out the RP20’s brake ducts because they represent a “performance differentiator” but more importantly, the component’s internals cannot be duplicated based on observation or photographs alone.
“The main point is brake ducts are essential performance differentiators on today’s Formula 1 cars,” explained Budkowski.
“They’re not only there to cool the brakes, they are an essential aerodynamic device — both at the front and at the rear in terms of extracting aero performance — but they also are essential in controlling the tire temperatures, and we know that tire temperatures are fairly important in Formula 1 nowadays.
“The other reason is there are surfaces that are visible to the eye and to the cameras of the numerous photographers that go up and down the pit lane, there’s also surfaces that are impossible to see from outside so that it would be difficult to copy from pictures…”
No ruling on the protest on the part of the FIA is expected until mid-August at the earliest given the complexity of the matter.
Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer says his outfit will be building its defense in the coming weeks, the American remaining confident that the case will alleviate any doubts about the legality of his team’s design process.
“I think the process is bulletproof. We’ll provide all the evidence that was asked of us,” Szafnauer said.
“I think the outcome will be bulletproof, which is quite nice, because there are things the camera can’t see, especially the internal surfaces of a brake duct for example that we completely designed and developed ourselves.
“When you compare the two parts by the FIA, then they’ll absolutely know that the brake ducts are unique, and our IP and designed by us.”

The fourth-ranked Gophers’ quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive National Duals title begins Saturday with a quarterfinal match against No. 5 Cornell
Following a 26-9 victory against No. 23 North Dakota State last Saturday in its opening-round match of the NWCA National Duals, No. 4 Minnesota heads to Iowa City this weekend to compete in the event’s championship rounds. The three-time defending champion Gophers will begin their title defense Saturday at 12 p.m. CT in a quarterfinal match against No. 5 Cornell. With a victory, Minnesota would advance to wrestle the winner of No. 1 Iowa vs. Tennessee-Chattanooga in a Saturday afternoon semifinal. The event’s championship match will take place on Sunday.
Minnesota’s quarterfinal contest with Cornell is a rematch of last year’s National Duals championship, which the Gophers won, 24-15, securing their record-tying eighth title in the event and their third straight, which also tied a National Duals record. The Gophers took six matches from the Big Red, building up a significant lead by winning four straight matches early in the dual (133 to 157), three with bonus points. Combined across the two teams, 15 of the 20 wrestlers who competed in last year’s dual will be on the mat Saturday – nine for Cornell and six for Minnesota.
Looking ahead to Saturday afternoon, three rematches from last year’s dual appear on the bout card. At 157, No. 1 Dylan Ness will put his unblemished, 26-0 record on the line when he takes on No. 6 Brian Realbuto, who also brings an undefeated dual match record into this contest. Last year, their match ended at 1:13 when Ness pinned Realbuto. Coincidentally, Ness enters this year’s match having pinned each of his last two opponent in just over a minute. At 197, No. 5 Scott Schiller will take on No. 9 Jace Bennett for the third time in the past year and four days. In last year’s contest, Schiller defeated Bennett in an 11-1 major decision that clinched the dual and the championship for the Gophers. The two met again earlier this year in the semifinals of the Cliff Keen Invitational, where Schiller pinned Bennett in 4:16. Finally, at 285, No. 14 Michael Kroells will look to avenge last year’s 7-6 loss when he takes on Jacob Aiken-Phillips for the second time in his career.
Several other highlighted bouts beyond those pairings include another rematch from this year’s Cliff Keen Invitational, as No. 13 Brett Pfarr will get another shot at No. 1 Gabe Dean. Dean defeated Pfarr, 2-1, in the second tiebreaker of a very tight quarterfinal contest in the tournament. Ranked wrestlers also will be pitted against each other at 133 and 174. At 133, undefeated and top-ranked Chris Dardanes will take on No. 16 Mark Grey with the chance to run his record to 20-0 this season, which would be the best start of his career. At 174, No. 4 Logan Storley will wrestle No. 18 Duke Pickett.
Saturday will be the sixth time in the event’s history (including a 1994 Virginia Duals match), and the third time in the past five years, the Gophers and the Big Red have met in the National Duals. Minnesota is 5-1 in those meetings, dropping its only match to Cornell, 20-16, in the 2011 tournament. The Big Red went on to win its lone National Duals championship that year. In fact, the winner between these two teams has gone on to win the title the last three times they’ve met – last year, 2011 and in 2007 when Minnesota defeated Cornell, 32-11, on its way to a first-place finish.
Cornell advanced in the National Duals with a 35-6 drubbing of Drexel last Sunday. The Big Red won eight matches, six with bonus points, and finished the afternoon by taking the final seven bouts. The win improved Cornell to 15-1 this season, with its only loss coming against fellow National Duals competitor, No. 2 Missouri, in early January.
The Gophers continued in the tournament with a strong showing against NDSU last Saturday in Fargo. Minnesota won seven matches, including three with bonus points. A stretch of six consecutive wins across the middle of the dual sealed the victory by Minnesota.
Including last Sunday’s win, Minnesota will take the mat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena with an active, 11-match winning streak at the National Duals. As champions the past three years, the Gophers have posted perfect records in each effort. Their last loss in the event came in January 2011.
The quarterfinal match against Cornell will be streamed live on BTN Plus beginning at 12 p.m. CT. The event’s semifinal matches will be broadcast live on BTN starting at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, with the championship match on the network at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday. For updates throughout any of the Gophers matches in Iowa City, follow Gopher Wrestling on Twitter. Full recaps of each match will be available later on GopherSports.com.

It was only one week ago when fans watched a six-woman tag team match on Raw pitting The Riott Squad against The Bella Twins and Natalya. The match caught the attention of several fans when Brie Bella accidentally legitimately knocked out Liv Morgan during the match while dishing out a series of Yes Kicks. WWE later confirmed that Morgan had been diagnosed with a concussion. Some fans wondered if this would jeopardize the planned match between The Riott Squad and The Bella Twins & Ronda Rousey at Super Show-Down this weekend. The Wrestling Observer Radio confirmed that Morgan has continued to appear at WWE live events, but has only stayed ringside while Alicia Fox has taken her place in matches. Fox will likely replace Morgan at Super Show-Down if she is not cleared to return in time.
The Undisputed Era was already a dominant force on NXT before Bobby Fish went down with an injury. Since he went down with a torn ACL and MCL earlier this year, the group has won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, leader Adam Cole became the first North American Champion, and they have won the NXT Tag Team Championships on a few occasions thanks to the inclusion of Roderick Strong. Nevertheless, Fish is believed to be returning to the ring soon. During an appearance on E&C’d Pod of Awesomness, Adam Cole provided an update on Fish’s in-ring status. Cole talked about how disappointing it was to see Fish get hit with the injury but he assured fans that Bobby has been training hard everyday and should be ready to return ver soon. “He’s ready to come back, and he’s ready to make this group even better than what it is. So I personally – and I know Kyle and Roddy feel the same way, we can’t wait to get Bobby back with us.” Cole said.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly in consideration to compete against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania in April of next year. In the meantime, he continues to expand his acting portfolio. Johnson wrapped up his work for the upcoming Jungle Cruise just a few weeks ago, but it appears that he has already begun working on his next film project. The Rock announced on social media that he is currently in London to begin shooting the “Hobbs & Shaw” film that will act as the first spinoff in the Fast & Furious franchise. Johnson will star in the film with Jason Statham, and it is set to be released in theaters on August 2nd, 2019. Dwayne Johnson has appeared in each film in the series since his role in Fast Five in 2011.

As previously reported, Daniel Bryan vs. WWE Champion AJ Styles is now official for WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Bryan quickly defeated The Miz at WWE Super Show-Down to earn the title shot. Below is a post-match video of Bryan talking about the win and the title shot in Saudi Arabia.
Bryan says that he couldn’t be happier as he used a technique to beat The Miz – a small package. Bryan also says that he is now Mr. Small Package as his hold is inescapable. Bryan goes on and says that he is coming for The WWE Title in Saudi Arabia, sending a warning to Styles. Bryan also says that he fought hard to come back but not just to come back, to be the absolute best. Bryan also says that The WWE Champion is the absolute best, not The WWE Universal Champion, The WWE Intercontinental Champion or The WWE United States Champion. Bryan ends the promo by saying that Mr. Small Package will strike once again in Saudi Arabia.
