DJ Z Transcript

Ring Rust Radio: For fans who may not be aware, a few years ago you had a health scare. How are you feeling now, and did that impact your outlook on getting back into the ring?

DJ Z: It was just crazy. I was not sure for about five or six months whether or not I had cancer.   When your alone with your thoughts, when you’re unsure, it’s scary. It changes your perspective and your outlook on life. I wasn’t sure how much longer I had to live. I thought if I had cancer, I might have a year or two then I will probably die. It definitely impacted me in many ways inside if wrestling and outside of it too. I thought to myself what did I want to accomplish still in my life? Music was a really big thing that I wanted to learn and get trained at. I took a lot of time when I was on the injured list and dove into that passion to try and learn it since I didn’t know how much more time I had to live. I remember having a nearly maxed out credit card, and I told myself, “you know what, let’s just buy some music productions software”. I didn’t have the money to do it so I maxed out my card completely. I got the software because that’s how bad I wanted to learn it. Just like with wrestling, I was sitting there and not sure if I ever would wrestle again.   It was depressing and made me appreciate and love wrestling even more. Then when I got healthy again, I was able to come back to wrestling with a reinvigorated passion for it. I was just grateful to be able to do it again when I wasn’t sure I ever would. I’m thankful that I am healthy today and cancer free.

Ring Rust Radio: You have spent several years with the company and have seen a lot of change in that time. How confident are you in the future of Impact Wrestling and have you or other wrestlers been impacted by some of the negative rumors about the company’s television deal?

DJ Z: I think what sucks is that fans seem to be very concerned with these inner workings of TNA when there is a great show we are putting out every Wednesday. The show itself is taking a backseat to the controversy and negative reports out there.   Don’t worry about that, just watch the show and enjoy it. Wresting is interesting because it’s not like you have passionate fans of TV shows like the Walking Dead being super concerned about the behind the scenes of the series.   Only in pro-wrestling, do you get fans that are so interested in the behind the scenes aspect as much as the stuff you see on TV. It’s interesting in that way but I think it sucks since the show is really strong right now. We have a lot of hungry wrestlers giving it their all every week and there should be more emphasis on that instead of the behind the scenes stuff.

Ring Rust Radio: TNA has undergone a lot of changes recently and one of the biggest seems to be that much of the talent is permitted to take independent bookings around the scheduled tapings. You yourself have worked some shows for AIW. What you think that type of flexibility says about TNA, and how do you think it might impact outside talent’s interest in working for the company?

DJ Z: I think it’s cool that we have the freedom to take these bookings when we are not doing TNA stuff. This was a different situation where last year we were super busy with live events and I had no time to do any independent shows. This year, there aren’t live events, so I have the freedom to take these independent bookings. It’s cool because there is a different kind of pressure and creative outlet for me when I work an independent show versus a TNA TV show.   I get to wrestle talent I’m not familiar with and see different trends in different places. I think it’s cool to help keep your mind sharp and I enjoy to wrestle the independents and see different parts of the world. Being able to do more independent booking allowed me to do different shows in England, Japan, Mexico, and Russia. It’s cool to travel, see other parts of the world, meet new people, and have those experiences. At the same time, I do wish there were more live TNA events and hopefully we will get back to that point somewhere down the line.

New Japan on AXS TV report 8-28-15: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bad Luck Fale

by Bryan Rose, WrestlingObserver.com

Today’s show is another look at the Destruction PPV event from last year, which took place on September 21, 2014 from Kobe Hall.

First match up tonight is Kazuchika Okada & Yoshi-Hashi of CHAOS taking on Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows of Bullet Club. The tag team division in New Japan consists of the Bullet Club and whoever wants to team up against them that month, so that’s where we get this match. It’s not very exciting, or interesting, but New Japan’s focus isn’t really on heavyweight tags so we get this. Yoshi-Hashi is an interesting case because I think by now he’d be good to go on his own as a singles, but is almost always in tags during the year. He’s better than people think he is. Anderson and Gallows are acceptable as a team, I guess, but them being the mainstays in the division isn’t helping it feel all that hot – they’re fine, but nothing beyond that. The match was pretty good. Yoshi-Hashi’s great in when making a comeback as people are totally into him. Yujiro runs in and attacks YH, leaving him open to a Gallows Poll by Gallows and the Magic Killer to retain the tag team titles.

Okada and Gedo cut a promo after the match, saying that their and Yoshi-Hashi’s goal of winning the titles wasn’t deterred and they’ll be back. Gedo scoffed at their win, saying the Rainmaker will come back and destroy them. Come to think of it, they never have. Most challengers never do. I wonder if anyone actually wants to win the heavyweight tag titles in New Japan at this point.

Nakamura was interviewed about the match beforehand. He was frustrated with his G1 performance and wanted Fale to bring it on. With Fale, Nakamura seems to feel that he garners strength from the audience to gain an advantage, which interests him.

The main event aired. People I talk to are divided about Bad Luck Fale and his monster push. It’s easy to see that he’s very much protected in New Japan booking – hardly anyone kicks out of the Bad Luck Fall and it’s not like he’s pinned all that often. He’s the big gajin heel that they want, and for the role he’s…acceptable. As a worker, he’s sluggish. But New Japan’s booking of him is strong enough that he can have pretty good matches despite this. When I first watched this match, I thought it was really good, and a testament to just how great Shinsuke Nakamura was last year as a main event guy. Looking at this match again, I think there were still periods where it was just kind of dull. Action picked up towards the end that made it a fun, but not great main event. Fale has to be with the right guy to be in main events, and Nakamura is definitely one of those guys. He wins the title for the fourth time by countering Fale and hitting him flush in the face with a boma ye.

After the match Nakamura says he can’t express this win in words, and sure enough gives out a YEAOH. Backstage, he says the championship expresses the winner’s will, and he will do whatever he likes with the title.

Reflecting back, Nakamura says he was one of the more heaviest guys he’s faces. His power can be a destructive force, and felt that during the match. He knew eventually he was running out of gas and a win was not too far away. As far as future title defenses are concerned he doesn’t seem to care; he sees it as a toy. He likes how many people come to challenge for the belt and that’s where he has fun with it the most.

Not a terrific episode by any means, but it was solid with a decent main event. For the first time in what seems like weeks, it probably wasn’t the best television show of the week. Then again, you can’t win them all!

Boris Johnson warns Trump that abandoning Iran nuclear deal could spark ‘dash for a bomb’

British, American and European diplomats are close to agreeing a joint approach to reining in Iran’s territorial ambitions and missile programme, according to Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, who is due to arrive in Washington for last ditch talks to save the Iran nuclear deal.

Donald Trump, the US president, has set himself a Saturday deadline for deciding whether to pull out of the 2015 agreement.

In an article published in Monday’s New York Times, Mr Johnson writes that the deal remains the least worst option. Abandoning it now could prompt a regional arms race triggered by “Iran dashing for a bomb”, he says.

“Of all the options we have for ensuring that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon, this pact offers the fewest disadvantages,” he continues.

“It has weaknesses, certainly, but I am convinced they can be remedied.”

European figures have been lobbying Washington as the deadline approaches.

What is the Iran nuclear deal?

Mr Johnson is due to meet Mike Pence, the US vice president, and John Bolton, Mr Trump’s most senior security adviser, during his visit.

He is also expected to appear on one of Mr Trump’s favourite TV shows, Fox and Friends. The President frequently announces policy initiatives or fires off tweets in response to issues highlighted by the prorgramme.

Ahead of those meetings, Mr Johnson pointed out the value of the deal, writing that Iran placed two-thirds of its centrifuges in storage and gave up about 95 percent of its uranium stockpile, extending the “break out” time – the time it would need to build a bomb – to more than a year.

“Now that these handcuffs are in place, I see no possible advantage in casting them aside. Only Iran would gain from abandoning the restrictions on its nuclear programme,” he writes.

But he adds that the UK shares Mr Trump’s concerns about Iran’s support for terrorist groups and its long-rang missile programme.

And he said there had been progress in developing a joint approach to countering its regional meddling, but that the nuclear deal should remain central to handling Tehran.

“I believe that keeping the deal’s constraints on Iran’s nuclear programme will also help counter Tehran’s aggressive regional behaviour,” he said.

“I am sure of one thing: every available alternative is worse. The wisest course would be to improve the handcuffs rather than break them.”

Singapore summit: possible venues touted as locals brace for the Trump and Kim show

Singapore has declared itself "honoured" after Donald Trump, the US president, confirmed on Thursday that he will meet Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, in the Asian city state in June.

In a phone call with Mr Trump on Friday, Lee Hsien Loong, the Singaporean prime minister, described the meeting as a "historic and momentous event" and promised it would be "smooth and successful." Attention is now turning to which venue will have the daunting task to ensure the most anticipated summit of the year runs to plan.

The Straits Times, one of Singapore’s main newspapers, has touted three probable venues that could fit the bill in terms of security, status and comfort for the June 12 meeting. None…

All Chilean bishops offer to resign over sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church

Chile’s bishops have tendered an unprecedented mass resignation over a decades-long abuse scandal after Pope Francis accused the country’s church of destroying evidence of sexual crimes and “the gravest negligence” in the protection of minors.

In a damning 10-page report delivered to 34 Chilean bishops who were summoned to the Vatican this week, the pontiff said the Chilean Church was collectively responsible for “serious defects” in the handling of abuse cases.

Priests removed over sexual abuse had been moved to other dioceses where they remained in contact with children, complaints had been dismissed despite convincing evidence, and Church lawyers had been pressured to limit or halt investigations, he said. Prelates had also destroyed “compromising documents”, Pope Francis added.

Accusing the Chilean Church of “becoming self-focused” and falling into “ecclesiastical perversions” of messianism and elitism, the Pope said the depth of abuse in the South American country was a “painful open wound”. While individuals must be removed from their posts, it was not enough to address the problem, which, he declared, lay in “the system”.

Announcing their resignation offer on Friday, the Chilean bishops said they would stay in their roles while they awaited the Pope’s decision. In a statement delivered by Bishop Fernando Ramos, they asked "forgiveness for the pain caused to the victims, to the pope, to the people of God and our country for the serious errors and omissions committed by us".

The confidential document, leaked to Chilean TV channel T13, is the result of a Vatican investigation into the case of Father Fernando Karadima, a now 87-year-old former priest who had been accused of abusing minors as early as 1984. The Chilean Church failed to act on the complaints until the early 2000s, and then dismissed the findings of investigators; it was not until 2011, after a group of accusers went public, that he was deemed guilty of sexual and psychological abuse and finally defrocked. However, due to the statute of limitations, criminal prosecution was then impossible.

Three of Karadima’s victims – Juan Carlos Cruz, James Hamilton and José Andrés Murillo – were received at the Vatican two weeks ago and urged the Pope to “stop the epidemic of sexual abuse and cover-ups”. Mr Hamilton explained that he had been first abused by the Santiago priest at the age of 17 in 1983; the abuses had lasted 20 years, he said, with Karadima blackmailing him by threaten to reveal the sexual contacts to his wife.

In a public letter, Pope Francis admitted to making “serious mistakes” in his own handling of the scandal “due to the lack of truthful and balanced information”, and asked for forgiveness “from all those I have offended”.

The pontiff drew outrage in Chile during a visit to the country in January when he defended Bishop Juan Barros, a former protege of Karadima, who is accused of having protected the predatory priest despite allegedly witnessing the abuse. Pope Francis appointed Barros to head the diocese of Osorno in 2015, even though the accusations against the Chilean bishop had been public for at least three years.

Woody Allen’s son defends him and accuses his mother Mia Farrow of abuse

An adopted son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow has sprung to his father’s defence, insisting Allen never molested his sister.

Moses Farrow, now 39, has maintained a low profile amid the accusations surrounding his father, and the publicity caused by the work of his brother Ronan, a crusading journalist who will soon be presented with his Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

But, describing himself as “a very private person”, Mr Farrow published a 4,650-word blog post on Wednesday in an attempt to tell his version of events.

“Given the incredibly inaccurate and misleading attacks on my father, Woody Allen, I feel that I can no longer stay silent as he continues to be condemned for a crime he did not commit,” he wrote.

“I was present for everything that transpired in our house before, during, and after the alleged event. Now that the public hysteria of earlier this year has died down a little and I have some hope that the truth can get a fair hearing, I want to share my story.”

Dylan Farrow with her mother Mia in April 2016

Allen was accused by his daughter Dylan in 2014 of sexually assaulting her when she was seven. She is supported by her brother Ronan and mother, and the accusations have gathered increased attention given the #MeToo scandal, and her brother’s role in it.

Moses Farrow, born in Korea in 1978, was afflicted with cerebral palsy and abandoned in a telephone booth, to be adopted by Farrow when he was two.

In 1985 she then adopted Dylan. Ronan, Farrow and Allen’s only biological child, was born in 1987, and in 1992 Allen became Dylan’s adoptive parent as well.

Now a 39-year-old family therapist, Mr Farrow depicts a traumatic childhood at the family home in Connecticut, in which his mother created an atmosphere “in which I felt the constant need to gain her trust and approval.”

He accepted that Allen’s relationship with Soon-Yi, Farrow’s adopted daughter, caused immense trauma in the family.

But he insisted the real problem did not come from his film director father.

“The fatal dysfunction within my childhood home had nothing to do with Woody,” he writes.  “It began long before he entered the picture and came straight from a deep and persistent darkness within the Farrow family.”

Mr Farrow noted that his grandfather, a celebrated film director, was an alcoholic and a “serial philanderer”.

Her brother John, Mr Farrow writes, is currently in prison, sentenced in 2013 to 25 years for multiple child molestation charges.

He writes: “My mother, of course, had her own darkness. She married 50-year-old Frank Sinatra when she was only 21.

“After they divorced, she moved in to live with her close friend Dory Previn and her husband André. When my mother became pregnant by André, the Previns’ marriage broke up, leading to Dory’s institutionalization.

"It was never spoken of in our home, of course, and not even known to me until a few years ago.

"But, as I look at it – as a licensed therapist as well as an eyewitness – it’s easy to see the seeds of dysfunction that would flourish within our own home.”

Woody Allen and Mia Farrow with their son Ronan, and her adopted daughter Dylan. Allen would later adopt Dylan.

Mr Farrow accuses his mother of slapping him for moving a tape measure – something he insisted he did not do – and being spanked and forced to stand naked in front of his siblings as punishment for cutting the belt loops off his new jeans.

His brother Thaddeus committed suicide at the age of 27 in 2016, shooting himself in his car.

His sister Lark “wound up on a path of self-destruction”, he writes, struggled with addiction, and eventually died in poverty from AIDS-related causes in 2008 at age 35.

Another sister, Tam, died in 2000 – a death which Farrow insists was an accidental overdose by her blind daughter, but which Mr Farrow claims was suicide.

Mr Farrow insists that his sister Dylan could not have been abused by Allen in August 1992 because the other siblings were all present in the house, and watching him closely, having been warned by Farrow that he was “a monster” once his relationship with Soon-Yi became known.

Woody Allen and Dylan, in 1989

He also pours scorn on Dylan’s account of being abused in the attic and lying on her back watching a model train set, insisting that there was no train set in the attic – only in the boys’ room in the garage.

He claimed that he felt under pressure to denounce Allen, writing that going along with Farrow’s wishes was “the biggest regret of my life”.

“During the custody hearing, my mother kept stressing how we needed to stick together as a family.

“Frightened and beaten down, I, too, played my part. I even wrote a letter condemning Woody, saying that he had done something horrible and unforgivable, and had broken my dreams. I even read the letter for the news media that were now regularly gathered at the end of our driveway, knowing that doing so would earn my mother’s approval.

“That public denouncement of my father remains the biggest regret of my life.”

Mr Farrow eventually reconnected with his father when he was in his late 20s, becoming estranged from his mother in the process.

His sister Dylan has previously said Mr Farrow is “dead to me”, after he spoke to People magazine in 2014.

She dismissed his recollections as “irrelevant.”

Mr Farrow also spoke to the author of a book on Allen’s films, published in October.

On Wednesday, he addressed his sister and said: “My healing began only after getting away from her. And what she has done to you is unbearable. I wish you peace, and the wisdom to understand that devoting your life to helping our mother destroy our father’s reputation is unlikely to bring you closure in any kind of lasting way.”

He said he was prepared for his mother to “launch a campaign to discredit me for speaking out,” adding: “I know it comes with the territory. And it’s a burden I am willing to bear.”

Mia Farrow’s representatives, contacted by The Telegraph, declined to comment.
