Construction workers lose sensitive documents during renovations at UK spy headquarters, report says

On Friday, The Sun reported that “sensitive” documents detailing the “layout and security measures” of MI6’s London headquarters have gone missing while construction giant Balfour Beatty carried out refurbishment work.

###

The missing documents were supposed to be held in a secure room by the construction firm while the renovations took place at the headquarters of the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service — better known as MI6 — the UK’s equivalent to the CIA.

###

Although not classified, the papers were deemed to be highly sensitive due to their content.

###

“To lose such sensitive documents was grossly irresponsible. The documents would be gold dust to any enemy agents or terrorists,” The Sun reported an unnamed source as saying.

###

Balfour Beatty’s contract to refurbish the building at Vauxhall Cross, south London, was terminated after the papers disappeared, The Sun reported.

###

The UK’s Foreign Office said it would not comment on intelligence matters.

###

CNN has reached out to Balfour Beatty for comment.

Six people were freed after an avalanche buried skiers at a Swiss ski resort

The avalanche started at approximately 10:50 a.m. local time and struck a slope at the SkiArena resort in Andermatt, Switzerland, police said. The slope runs from the Schneehüenerstock mountain peak to the Oberalp Pass.

###

Andermatt is approximately 68 miles south of Zurich.

###

Six people were rescued or freed themselves from the snow. The two people with minor injuries were flown to the Alt Dorf Kanton Hospital, the resort’s Facebook page said.

###

The search team was comprised of five avalanche search dogs, three helicopters, about 25 skiers, the Uri ambulance service, the Uri Kanton police and the Andermatt-Sedrun piste rescue, the police said.

###

Rescuers do not believe any more people are trapped beneath the snow, and the search ended at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to the police.

###

An internal slope safety process declared the slope safe, the resort said. The Uri Kanton police will investigate how the avalanche came down.

###

The slope will remain closed on December 27th.

Arsenal vs Chelsea team news: Predicted Gunners and Blues XIs as Frank Lampard takes on Mikel Arteta in the Premier League

A draw with Bournemouth and a defeat to Southampton, respectively, on Boxing Day has left both clubs woefully short of form but can their managers – both ex-players – turn it around?

At the Vitality, there were some green shoots for the Gunners against Eddie Howe’s Cherries but they couldn’t find a winning goal, meanwhile the Blues’ defence was shown up twice by the Saints in a bitterly disappointing display.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to see more from his side after their festive fright on the south coast.

“I am pleased with a lot of things I have seen and a lot of things we practised that happened,” said the former Gunners captain.

“I am not happy we have not won the game but happy overall. In terms of attitude, desire and commitment it was better than I expected.”

Tottenham come from behind twice to draw with bottom-of-the-table Norwich City as VAR controversially chalks off Teemu Pukki goal

Teemu Pukki saw a brilliant goal chalked off by the finest of margins in the third controversial decision of the day in the Premier League.

The incident packed match at Carrow Road ended 2-2 with the home side looking anything but a bottom-of-the-table side.

Norwich went ahead in the 18th minute when Mario Vrancic netted his first top flight goal for the club.

Juan Foyth gave the ball away in a dangerous position and Vrancic was given too much space to shoot from distance and find the net.

Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga could possibly have done better as the shot was not in the corner and he had a clear sight of the advancing player.

The Canaries thought they had doubled their lead in the 32nd minute but VAR chalked it off by the finest of margins.

Vrancic played the ball into the path of Teemu Pukki, who brought it down and drove home.

Pukki looked to be onside but once the lines had been drawn at Stockley Park it showed the striker’s should slightly ahead.

Jose Mourinho was clearly unhappy with Spurs’ first half performance as he made two changes at half-time.

They seemed to have the desired effect as they got back on level terms nine minutes later.

Christian Eriksen swept in a free-kick from the edge of the box, with the help of a slight deflection, to make it 1-1.

Dele Alli then had the ball in the back of the net in the 57th minute but he was rightly judged to be offside.

Norwich restored their lead in fortuitous circumstances when Toby Alderweireld’s interception was deflected in by Serge Aurier.

Arsenal team of the decade has Aubameyang, Sanchez and Van Persie, but it’s far away from ‘The Invincibles’ of Henry and Bergkamp

They started the decade as Champions League regulars and there was hope among the Emirates faithful they would once again be challenging for the very highest honours.

But they have slipped out of the top four and even behind bitter north London rivals Tottenham.

At the end of the 2017/18 campaign there was a change in personnel in the Emirates dugout for the first time in 22 years as Arsene Wenger said his goodbyes and was replaced by Unai Emery.

However, Emery failed to make the impact it was hoped for and has now been sacked, with Mikel Arteta tasked with restoring Arsenal to the top table.

The last ten years, though, hasn’t been all doom and gloom for the Gunners as they have picked up three FA Cups, have endured successful Europa League campaigns and seen some of Europe’s best players don the famous red shirt.

So is this Arsenal’s team of the decade?

Liverpool vs Wolves team news: Predicted Reds XI with changes certain as Jurgen Klopp rages over fixture list

The Reds, like most English top-flight sides, will be playing a second game in just over 48 hours when the face Wolves at Anfield.

“It’s absolutely not OK,” Klopp said.

“And we still have it. None of the managers have a problem with matches on Boxing Day, but playing the 26th and 28th is a crime.

“We can say whatever we want and no-one is really interested but every year it is the same for the coaches involved in it.

David Moyes in line for West Ham return as Manuel Pellegrini sacked by struggling Premier League club

The 56-year-old Scot is the hot favourite to take charge of the Hammers for a second time, after Manuel Pellegrini was sacked on Saturday night.

West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold want an experienced figure to steady the ship with the club in serious danger of relegation – and they have earmarked Moyes as the ideal man.

In his previous spell at West Ham, the Scot steered the club to Premier League safety in 2017/18 having taken charge on a short-term contract in November 2017.

But, despite leading the Londonders away from relegation danger and to a 13th-place finish, Moyes left the London Stadium and Pellegrini was appointed in his place.

However, Sullivan and Gold are now ready to turn back to the 56-year-old, and are understood to have already opened talks over a deal.

As in his first spell in the Hammers hotseat, Moyes will look to bring in Stuart Pearce as his assistant if he does land the job.

West Ham finished tenth under Pellegrini last season but this term has been a disaster, with ten defeats in 19 league games leaving them at serious risk of relegation.

Pellegrini’s expensively assembled side had actually started the season in fine form, but a run of two wins from 14 matches – and four straight home defeats – has seen them tumble from 4th to 17th in the space of three months.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester at home proved to be the final straw for Sullivan and Gold.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford strike as Manchester United earn hard-fought victory over Burnley at Turf Moor

From the high of March’s Champions League comeback win at Paris Saint-Germain to chastening losses to the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Watford, this will be remembered as challenging year of transition at Old Trafford.

There remains plenty of work to do but United head into the New Year buoyed by back-to-back wins, with Martial and Rashford scoring at Burnley just 50 hours after the comprehensive comeback against Newcastle.

Solskjaer’s side could have scored more at Turf Moor but this was another victory when bossing possession, while they also ended a club-record 14-match run without a Premier League clean sheet.

Gary Lineker SLAMS VAR as Norwich striker Teemu Pukki is denied brilliant goal against Tottenham by finest of margins

During the first half of the Canaries’ clash against with Tottenham at Carrow Road, Pukki thought he had doubled his side’s lead after expertly converting home after receiving a long ball from out wide.

Unsurprisingly, Norwich fans and players began to celebrate after what they thought was a perfectly good and legal goal.

But as with many goals this season, their celebrations were cut short when VAR gave the decision in favour of the visitors.

Replays showed that of Pukki’s arm was millimetres ahead of Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘not under transfer embargo’ as they fight EFL misconduct charge

The EFL brought a misconduct charge against the Championship club and it centres on the sale of their Hillsborough stadium.

The Owls issued a claim against the EFL for allegedly ‘acting unlawfully’ in bringing about the misconduct charge.

“The club is proceeding with its arbitration claim against the EFL that the charges issued by the EFL are unlawful and the process of appointing the arbitrators is currently under way,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“No step will be taken in the disciplinary case, if at all, until the arbitration is resolved. The club can confirm that it is not under embargo. No further comment will be made at this stage.”

Wednesday have denied all allegations put forward by the EFL after it opened an investigation into the club’s profitability and sustainability submission for 2017/18.

The Owls have been reported to have registered a £38million profit from the sale of the stadium to a company owned by their chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, in the wrong year in order to avoid breaching financial fair play rules.

The EFL had said previously the charges would be considered by an independent disciplinary commission with sanctions possibly including a severe points deduction.

Earlier this month, the EFL said it had sufficient evidence to support the misconduct charge.
