World’s First ‘Ladies Special’ Train In Mumbai Completes 26 Years

Mumbai’s local trains are famous for many reasons – they are not only the lifeline of the city, but also cause the Western Railways happened to have started world’s first ‘ladies special’ trains.

Started between Churchgate and Borivali stations, the famous ladies special has completed 26 years. In a statement issued by the WR, ladies special train service that first ran between Churchgate and Borivali station was later extended up to Virar in 1993. Since then, the train has been serving lakhs of women commuters daily, which is now considered a milestone for any suburban transport system in the world.
