What’s ‘One Nation, One Election’?

The term ‘One Nation, One Election’ refers to ‘simultaneous elections’ in all the states as well as the Centre. BJP-the party ruling in the Centre has been talking about it for some time and the first push from the party came in its 2014 manifesto and later by PM Narendra Modi in 2016.

Currently, the elections to the Lok Sabha and the states are held separately as polls are held in states where the incumbent governments complete their term of five years and the same goes for the Lok Sabha which form government at the Centre.
