Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but between a race
Saturday evening (while many were at the Capt. Kidd in Wood’s Hole) and the
double-fisted Liam’s/Birdville post and post-post gatherings and Sunday stay-over,
plus the zillion names to cross reference in the “Miss two, you’re through”
category, it’s been a laborious labor of love.
Surprise, surprise, as Brooklinite Dave Wilson showed on the Cape and is now 3-3 on the Pub ledger,
although SRR’s Greg Picklesimer
picked off defending Pub champ TJ Unger
of HFC on the return route along Surf Drive to close to within 7-seconds of
young Wilson, 25:49 to 25:56. Pickle Power now resides 1-point ahead of TJ.
HFC’s Lee Danforth
in 4th (27:01) retains that position while CSU’s Patrick BugbeeÛÓlooking tough at a Cape Cod Dunkin’ Donuts after
coming off a wedding the day before in OrleansÛÓran surprisingly well (7th) to
close to within 1-point of HFC’s Andrew
Holmes (8th) for the coveted 5th and final Open $ position.

Former Pub Series Queen Mimi
Fallon, 49, chased current leader Ginger
Reiner of CSU early but Ginger is tough stuff (and 11 yrs. younger) and
remains 1-point away from a perfect record after winning in 30:08. Fallon

Wearing the new ultra chic “shocking pink” Team Fabulous
singlet, 2014 co-champ Candice Gagnon
corralled 3rd in 30:55, followed by a Magnificent Masters showdown between
Falmouth TC superstar Anne Preisig,
46, and pub powerhouse Holly Madden,
49, of Whirlaway. This title would go to Holly in 31:31 to Preisig’s 31:48.
Gagnon and Madden are now 2-3 on the leaderboard while there
was considerable movement following the top 3 as the 3-4-6 Series sirens were
all AWOL. We’re not sure where NH’s Liz
Whiting was, but 4th placer Amanda
Watters of the BAA was overseeing some women she coaches running in a RI
marathon. SRR braniac Mariah Tinger
was working on a 100-page thesis and presentation, plus she has two small kids
so we’ll give her a pass until Napper Tandy’s.
Anyway, a host of women moved up, none more dramatically
than Whirlaway’s Katrina Martin, 22,
who moved from 21st to 10th.

Two-time champ Terry
McNatt is looking unstoppable among Seniors while counterpart Marge Bellisle is in line for our
Betwixt & Between award after winning her second straight 50+ showdown but
turning 60 before Napper Tandy’s. That leaves GBTC’s Claire McManus and Liberty’s Vicki
Bok to duke it out with just a point separating them.
It was so jam packed in Liam’s for the awards ceremony that
it was tough to hear the men’s 60+ winner, but it wasn’t HFC’s George Braun, and this sent the HFC
contingent into a bewildered tizzy. In truth, Thirsty Irish Runner Dave Wessman had turned the tables on
George after two losing encounters, 31:05 to 31:36. For those who remember,
Dave won the Pub Series Senior category on several occasions while a younger
man. Like McNatt, Quincy Pub veteran Joanne
Morris seems to have a lock on her category although “birthday girl” Marianne Withington of the Marshfield
RR garnered 4-points as part of her day-of celebration.
With the absence of 70+ leader Rick Stetson, Pub stalwart Dave
Pember vaulted into 1st in the 70+ category, followed by Joe Noonan and NH Wildman Denny LeBlanc. No times mentioned here
as 70+ women’s leader Jan Holmquist
has yet to be drug tested following her 35:33 scamper. Actually, this is par
for the course for Jan, and she is
just coming off a US W70 record from the James Joyce Ramble 10K. Sub-36Û¢child’s
play!

successful inaugural outing. Also, to Courtney
