Ljungberg, the Swedish former Arsenal winger, had taken charge of the Gunners on an interim basis following the sacking of Unai Emery last month, but he appeared to be in limbo as the club named Arteta as their new boss on Friday.
He had only been promoted to Emery’s first-team coaching staff throughout the summer after working in Arsenal’s academy, and a return to the youth set-up had been mooted as a possible destination if Arteta didn’t want the 42-year-old around.
However, he confirmed Ljungberg will remain one of the senior staff during his first pre-match press conference since taking charge of the Gunners, while former Everton assistant Steve Round will also join his backroom team.
