Mbappe, Sancho, or Haaland? Who could dominate football for the next decade as Ronaldo and Messi approach end of their reigns?

The two footballing heroes have battled for supremacy in one of the greatest rivalries in sporting history.

They even have big cases to claim they are the greatest to ever play the beautiful game.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo fans, however, Messi edges the stats in most of the categories over the last ten years.

The 33-year-old scored more than 40 more in the last ten years (522), averaging over over 52 goals-per-year, while Ronaldo is averaging just under 48-goals-per-year having struck 478 times.

Messi’s best year for his club came in 2012, where he racked up an astonishing 79 club goals, while Ronaldo’s personal best was in 2013, where he scored 59 times for Real Madrid.

The Juventus man has also won less trophies than Messi in the last decade, with the pair on 23 and 17 respectively.

However, Ronaldo has dominated for his country, winning two trophies with Portugal and scoring a record-breaking 77 goals – which makes Messi’s 57 for Argentina look measly.

The dominance of the two players has been astonishing, but let’s be frank, it surely cannot last given Ronaldo is 34-years-old and Messi is 32-years-old.

So who are the contenders to dominate the next ten years? talkSPORT.com has drawn up a list of the potential candidates….
