The former goalkeeper is currently CEO at the Dutch club but has been linked with a return to Old Trafford in a director of football role.
Van der Sar won four Premier League titles, the League Cup and the Champions League with the Red Devils during a six-year spell at the club.
Following his retirement he moved into the administration side of football.
The 48-year-old became Ajax’s marketing director in 2012 and made his way up to CEO by 2016.
Alongside Marc Overmars, the club’s technical director, they have built a strong young team who have made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after knocking out Real Madrid.
Despite this success, Van der Sar has not ruled out a move to his old club in the future.
“I know United is a much bigger challenge than Ajax,” he told the Sunday Times.

“You need to cherish that and Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) is doing a great job at it. But also Ed (Woodward).
