Our colleagues at Ouest-France reported earlier today that Ligue 2 side FC Lorient are in advanced negotiations to appoint Jocelyn Gourvennec as their manager, who will coach Ligue 1 bottom side EA Guingamp tonight for the final time after announcing his departure from EAG earlier this week.
Negotiations between Gourvennec & Lorient have accelerated in recent hours, but nothing is yet signed. Multiple sources are claiming to be optimistic about the deal being done shortly.
Les Merlus’ coach, Mickaël Landreau, announced his departure on 18th May, following failure to win promotion to the top flight for a second consecutive campaign. FCL explored a number of candidates, including Patrice Lair, Frédéric Hantz & Christophe Pélissier, but Gourvennec quickly became their priority earlier this week when he announced that he was departing EAG.
Gourvennec’s first steps in football were at Lorient, with a part of his family still living there and he has a very close relationship with the current Sporting Director of FCL, Christophe Le Roux.
The only sticking point remaining relates to salary demands and whether or not Gourvennec wants to plunge himself into a Ligue 2 job, knowing full well that a managerial merry-go-round is imminent in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table as soon as the season comes to and end.
As of now, Gourvennec seems ready to ignore that and start a new adventure with Lorient.
