Less than a month later, though, the Gunners forward is well and truly back in Cas’ good books.
Aubameyang and Arsenal got back to winning ways as they got the better of Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on New Year’s Day.
This is new manager Mikel Arteta’s first three points in charge of the club as goals from Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis Papastathopoulos sealed the 2-0 victory.
But it was Aubameyang who caught the eye of talkSPORT host, Cas, who was particularly impressed by the Gabon international’s work-ethic.
He was even compared to Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, a player who is well-known for his all round play.
Writing in his column for The Times, he wrote: “A few weeks ago I used the word ‘disgusting’ to describe the attitude of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during matches but something strange happened last night.
“After 20 minutes the Arsenal forward chased back and won the ball with a tackle from behind.
“I thought to myself: ‘Has Roberto Firmino signed for Arsenal?’ because that is what he does for Liverpool all the time.”
Cas believes it wasn’t just Aubameyang who was working hard though, adding: “In fact there was an excellent work-ethic on display from all four Arsenal attacking players, with Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe all pulling their weight.
“They were doing the things that make a team function, rouse the crowd and give the game a different dynamic.”
