Angel di Maria: “I signed a new deal because I want to stay here.”

Speaking in an interview with Canal Football Club, PSG attacking midfielder Angel di Maria discussed why he has decided to remain at PSG.

On PSG’s exit in the Champions’ League against Manchester United:

It is very simple. We were a different team that night. We put in an exceptional performance in the 1st leg, we pressed, we showed intensity, we had a fantastic character. And we didn’t give Manchester a chance, not a chance… I think it was the stress and this thing in the back of our minds that the club had been trying to get through to the quarter-finals but had not succeeded. The reason that I am still in Europe and not in Argentina is because I want to win the Champions’ League. I did the “Decima” with Real Madrid, over several years, and it was an incredible source of satisfaction. I think to win it here for the first time would be unforgettable for me.

On his future:

I signed a contract extension because I wanted to be here. Because I want to win the Champions’ League here. That was my objective when I came here. This year I was free, I could have gone to any club that I wanted, I had other offers, I could have joined some very big clubs. But very soon we will achieve this objective.

RMC report that Ligue 1 champions PSG have opened contract extension negotiations with French international attacker Kylian Mbappé, whose current contract runs until 2023.

The discussions are early and have not yet been substantive, but they demonstrate the Paris club’s desire to extend their attacking talent. We are not currently close to an agreement, but that is simply because of how nascent talks are, in a clear statement of intent from PSG to keep their player for as long as possible, in the face of the summer transfer window rumour mill.

Jocelyn Gourvennec in advanced discussions to become manager of FC Lorient

Our colleagues at Ouest-France reported earlier today that Ligue 2 side FC Lorient are in advanced negotiations to appoint Jocelyn Gourvennec as their manager, who will coach Ligue 1 bottom side EA Guingamp tonight for the final time after announcing his departure from EAG earlier this week.

Negotiations between Gourvennec & Lorient have accelerated in recent hours, but nothing is yet signed. Multiple sources are claiming to be optimistic about the deal being done shortly.

Les Merlus’ coach, Mickaël Landreau, announced his departure on 18th May, following failure to win promotion to the top flight for a second consecutive campaign. FCL explored a number of candidates, including Patrice Lair, Frédéric Hantz & Christophe Pélissier, but Gourvennec quickly became their priority earlier this week when he announced that he was departing EAG.

Gourvennec’s first steps in football were at Lorient, with a part of his family still living there and he has a very close relationship with the current Sporting Director of FCL, Christophe Le Roux.

The only sticking point remaining relates to salary demands and whether or not Gourvennec wants to plunge himself into a Ligue 2 job, knowing full well that a managerial merry-go-round is imminent in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table as soon as the season comes to and end.

As of now, Gourvennec seems ready to ignore that and start a new adventure with Lorient.

The judicial procedure between PSG and Adrien Rabiot is currently still being considered by the LFP and they are still investigating whether or not the midfielder’s decision to “like” an Instagram post from Patrice Evra was worthy of any financial punishment at all.

Both parties will have the right to appeal any final decision made by the LFP.

Lyon Sporting Director Juninho wanted to sign 24-year-old midfielder Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid before he joined Atletico earlier this week, according to L’Équipe.

The size of the deal, €40m, was probably considered too expensive by the Lyon board, but Juninho felt that the player’s profile matched what Les Gones were looking for in midfield.

OL did not play on their special relationship with Real Madrid in this instance.

He is expected to sign his contract with Niort on Monday. Braat has already visited the club’s facilities last week and he arrives as competition for 25-year-old shot-stopper Saturnin Allagbé, who is currently participating in AFCON for Benin.

Kawashima has already held weighty discussions with Kobe, but negotiations are being blocked on some minor details. Other Japanese sides have also made enquiries for the ex-Standard Liege and Dundee shot-stopper.
