Thierry Henry reacts to Monaco’s 1-0 loss to Reims: “My players are refusing to play.”

Speaking at a post-match press conference last night following AS Monaco’s 1-0 loss to newly promoted side Reims, Thierry Henry detailed a crippling lack of confidence on the part of his players as the reason why his ideas are not being implemented.

“Reims won basically all the duels. When we were at 11 vs 10, we really weren’t in the match at all. Then we get a red card of our own and penalise ourselves completely on our own. This was more worrying than on previous occasions because we do not produce any football. This evening was not about tactics, it was about a lack of desire. If you don’t win any duels, then its difficult to win a football match. I understand our fans’ frustration. This is a delicate situation. When you enter the pitch and your players involuntarily refuse to play, it is difficult. We have to find our confidence again. I would not have come to Monaco if I did not think that there was quality in this team.”

Leonardo Jardim wants rid of Youri Tielemans

AS Monaco’s newly re-appointed boss Leonardo Jardim has to decided to actively seek to rid of Belgian international midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News.

The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder, a Mendes client, has been offered to other Ligue 1 clubs including St Étienne and Bordeaux, and the latter side are particularly keen on signing him.

Another unnamed English side has positioned themselves for Tielemans in the meantime… Jardim wants Silva, and is therefore in pole position to get him.

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye still rues failed January move to PSG: “Everyone knows, I was a bit disappointed.”

Speaking to Canal Plus, Everton and Senegalese international midfielder Idrissa Gueye admitted that he still rues his failed January move to PSG.

“Everyone knows it, I was a bit disappointed not to join PSG because it is a great club and all players dream of playing for this type of club. I was ready to go, but it didn’t happen, one moves on to other things and one tries to work for ones club and finish the season well… PSG is a great club, one that you do not refuse. It was not too difficult to move on because we are professional footballers and things like this, they happen often. It is not my style to go against my club, knowing everything that they have done for me and that they have always been proper with me.”

PSG begin to outline summer targets

Le Parisien report that PSG have begun to outline their summer transfer window targets.

German tactician Thomas Tuchel wants to sign another two central midfielders this summer and his priorities remain Idrissa Gueye (Everton) and Tanguy N’Dombélé (Lyon). Contacts are also ongoing with Brazilian midfielder Allan (Napoli). The PSG dressing room are particularly keen on the latter individual, always excited about the prospect of adding another South American to the club’s ranks.

Ander Herrera (Manchester United) remains on the club’s shortlist, but he is not a priority in this sector, according to the Parisian paper.

The club is also looking to add a pair of full-backs this window, and have identified Cristiano Piccini (Valencia) and Cristiano Biraghi (Fiorentina) – two relatively low-cost options, it would appear.

Another surprising target in the defensive sector that PSG are making steps towards is that of 29-year-old Dutchman Daley Blind of Ajax and formerly at Manchester United. The club wants to make sure that it is adding European experience in this summer transfer window.

The Ligue 1 champions elect are also holding out some hope of landing Matthijs de Ligt, the superstar teenage central defensive prospect who also belongs to Dutch giants Ajax. A deal for the teen is estimated to cost between €70m and €100m. Tuchel is of the mind that Thilo Kehrer’s long-term future is at right-back for PSG, and he still wants enough central defenders to be able to operate with a back three.
