The televised impeachment hearings will take place on Wednesday and Friday, and will be broadcast live across America.
As proceedings unfold previously little known witnesses, and members of Congress, will become household names.
Bill Taylor
The first witness up is expected to be Bill Taylor, the US chargé d’affaires in Kiev.
He has been chosen by Democrats to lead off for two reasons – the damning nature of a 324-page deposition he has already given in private, and his personal background.

Mr Taylor, 72, has served the country for 50 years, starting as a cadet at West Point, as an infantry officer in Vietnam, at Nato, and at the state department.
