WWE Hall Of Famer Sean “X-Pac” Waltman recently took to his X-Pac 12360 Podcast and talked about getting the approval from WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon to use his name during D- Generation X’s WWE Hall Of Fame induction speech last Saturday night.
As previously reported, McMahon has made it clear several times that he doesn’t want his name being mentioned in Hall Of Fame speeches, which has led to the unfortunate firing or quitting of WWE Writer Robert Evans, who helped out in Bret Hart’s Hall Of Fame speech for The Hart Foundation.
“I think Bret mentioned Vince a bunch of times and Vince got really hot,” Waltman explained. “I think someone might have gotten fired. Then we went out and said it a million times and no one got fired… I’m not kidding! Vince was pissed!
“I get it, that’s a thing for (Vince). Like it’s his company, and then people go out there and they do that.”
Despite rumors and speculations indicating that Evans was fired, he took to his Twitter and said that he was the one who actually quit.
Waltman then said that Joe Belcastro, who is the head writer for NXT, helped produce their speech and that Belcastro was actually nervous with DX mentioning Vince after the incident with Evans. Waltman also said that he turned to Shawn Michaels to step in.
“I said, ‘Shawn, you go ask (Vince)!’,” Waltman said. “Shawn went and asked him and Vince just said, ‘Have fun’.”
D-Generation X would actually go on and push through with their comedy part of the speech for several minutes about how they could not mention Vince’s name while saying it multiple times.
