Kerevi's Wallabies dream hangs by a thread

Samu Kerevi’s Wallabies dream hangs by a thread after scans confirmed he will miss three to four weeks with a broken hand.

The Reds centre will have surgery on Tuesday after injuring it late on in the Reds win over the Cheetahs at Suncorp Stadium.

The 22-year old was in line for a Wallabies call-up after starring for the Reds in 2016, leading Queensland in run metres, carries and defenders beaten.

The Wallabies will start their preparations for the series against England in the first week of June, leaving little time for Kerevi to regain match fitness.

“It’d be extremely disappointing for him to miss any games,” Reds captain James Slipper said last night.

“He’s been a crucial part of our team not just this year but last year as well.

“We all know he’s a future Wallaby so he just needs to keep being consistent, stay humble and keep working hard.

“He’s a great bloke and would serve this country very well.”

Queensland travel to Christchurch next week to take on the in-form Crusaders.
