Lattron joins from Bourg-en-Bresse, who are currently in the French 3rd division, where he held the position of U19s coach.

Batista Mendy joining Angers from Nantes

L’Équipe report that 21-year-old French midfielder Batista Mendy has decided to join fellow Ligue 1 side Angers on a free transfer from Nantes after his contract with Les Canaris expired last month.

Mendy has agreed to a 3-year contract with Le SCO which he will sign tomorrow should he undergo a medical with success.

Mendy has made just 3 professional appearances to date, but the ex-French U19s international had major interest in his services this summer, with Brest, Bordeaux and Lens all making contact. Mendy also turned down an extension offer from Nantes.

Lyon extend Dakar Sacré Coeur partnership

Ligue 1 side Lyon on Monday confirmed the 3-year contract extension of their strategic partnership with Senegalese 1st division side Dakar Sacré Coeur.

A partnership that began in 2015 had initially been scheduled to run until last month, but both parties were happy to continue.

The partnership has so far resulted in OL signing two players from Dakar: 22-year-old attacking midfielder Ousseynou Ndiaye, who currently plays for Lyon’s reserves and 19-year-old defender Abdoulaye Niakhate Ndiaye, who also remains on the club’s books.

Matthieu Chupin, President of AS Dakar Sacré Coeur, had the following to say on the deal:

“Since 2015, Lyon and Dakar Sacré-Coeur have developed a sporting and human project of a very high quality. A number of synergies are at the origin of this wonderful story. Our two clubs, in different contexts and levels, share the same economic and social ambitions to serve high performing sporting projects. In the end, our partnership is a magnificent daily example of the richness of multi-culturality.”

Kevin Gameiro rejected Marseille because of a ‘personal choice’

French striker Kevin Gameiro (34) returned to Ligue 1 this week after eight years in Spain with Sevilla, Valencia and Atlético Madrid. His decision to chose former club Strasbourg over Marseille surprised some onlookers however. At this presentation Gameiro explained that decision.

“Marseille is a choice.” Gameiro said. “I spoke a lot with the president and coach there, we know that it is some context, especially when you are a former Parisian.” Gameiro spent two seasons with PSG between 2011 and 2013 scoring 23 goals in 77 games. “I would just say that it was a personal choice, that’s why I rejected the offer from Marseille.”

Regardless of his motivations and advancing age, Gameiro is an exciting addition to new coach Julien Stéphan’s Strasbourg side, the arrival of the former France international something of minor coup.

Mauricio Pochettino extends his PSG contract to 2023, finally ending suggestion of a departure

Despite only having been appointed at PSG in January following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel last Christmas, Mauricio Pochettino’s reign in Paris seemed to be in some doubt this summer.

At the start of June, Libération reported that Pochettino had informed PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Sporting Director Leonardo that he wanted to quit. Although PSG later denied this, reports of a return to Tottenham and links with the then vacant Real Madrid managerial position continued to surface. The Athletic reported that Tottenham even opened talks to re-hire Pochettino.

Neither move came to pass, however, and now Pochettino and his staff have finally debunked any further suggestion of an exit, for now at least, after an extension was triggered in the Argentine coach and his staff’s contracts, extending their stay in Paris to 2023. RMC, who broke the story, report that Pochettino wishes to stay at PSG in the long term.

Lionel Messi will cost PSG more than €40m a year but the payoff will be big

As Lionel Messi’s move to PSG seemingly edges ever closer, with only a medical remaining – which is assumed to be a formality, RMC‘s thoughts have turned to the commercial aspect of the deal.

Of course, Messi will arrive as a free agent and without a transfer fee but he will also become PSG’s highest paid player and remain the world’s number one footballing earner as a €40m net yearly salary awaits in France. A figure that surpasses Neymar’s €36m annual pay.

With PSG, like the rest of France and world football, suffering in the wake of the financial struggles of the last 18 months, the club’s investment represents a sizeable outlay even for an institution with PSG’s mammoth backing after losses of €125m during the 2019/20 season alone and a reported deficit of between €250m and €300m.

However, Messi’s arrival could prove a significant financial boon for Paris as Grégoire Kopp, creator of GRK Impact & Comms, a management agency, told RMC:

“Lionel Messi was directly and indirectly responsible for 30% of Barça’s income. It’s very consistent. He opens up new markets.”

Although Ligue 1’s latest protracted broadcast deal has just been finalised, in a terrible piece of timing for the LFP with the world’s greatest player now likely to be added to the league, Ligue 1 will also be aiming to make the most of the deal and expand into new markets just as Neymar’s presence has done so. A broadcast deal with Dinsey’s streamer Star in Brazil was agreed as recently last month.

Virgile Caillet, general delegate of Union Sport et Cycle, a leader in the sport and leisure sector, explained to RMC that:

“As soon as you recruit him, you have an almost automatic amount of additional income; product derivatives, ticketing, partners. This is an unmissable opportunity. “

Incredibly, 200,000 to 300,000 additional PSG shirts are projected to be sold as a result of Messi’s arrival in Paris and Kopp even predicts that Parisian tourism could eventually enjoy a bump thanks to Messi’s signing, noting that “5% to 10% of tourists who went to Barcelona went there for Messi.”

Messi’s on-field impact in French football is set to be more than seismic but the 34-year-old Argentine forward could drag French football into another level entirely off the field too.

Lille president confirms contact with “big clubs” for Renato Sanches

Speaking to BFM Lille this afternoon, Lille president Olivier Létang addressed the rumours linking Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches with a move away from the club. Létang, questioned on whether the Ligue 1 winner had been in contact with Juventus, denied any links with the Serie A club but added that there had been contact with other big clubs.

The former Rennes president went on to explain that Sanches was happy to be at the club for now, and declined to answer whether any price tag had been placed on the midfielder.

The 23-year-old has been with Les Dogues for the last two seasons, notably contributing to last season’s title win despite spending time out injured. The midfielder had previously been at Bayern Munich and Benfica, along with a loan spell at Swansea, and was part of the Portugal team that beat France in the final to win Euro 2016.

Bruno Génésio calls for Eduardo Camavinga to resolve contract situation amid transfer saga

Speaking ahead of his Rennes side’s trip to Brest on Sunday for the second fixture of the season, Bruno Génésio notably discussed Eduardo Camavinga’s transfer situation. With the French international entering the final year of his contract and attracting interest from other clubs, his future remains unclear with three weeks to go before the end of the summer window.

His words transcribed by RMC, the former Lyon manager explained that despite the young midfielder’s poor performance last week against Lens, Camavinga can still reach his potential – but must find a solution to his contract dilemma.

“I think a lot of things are happening in his head. He’s not able to express his full potential, which he hasn’t lost. Sometimes things happen in your head which means it doesn’t work as well in the legs. I’m not here to indulge anyone, I’m here to build a competitive team. He is capable of performing despite what’s being said of him, he didn’t have a catastrophic match, as I’ve read.”

“Now, the only explanation is that he has to resolve his situation. As long as he sits on the fence…”

“You have to put yourself in the shoes of an 18-year-old player who’s become an international, and doesn’t know whether he should leave or stay. It’s difficult to manage. The difficulty is that young players are very quickly faced with all of these issues.

Pape Matar Sarr has agreed personal terms with Tottenham

Metz midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has agreed a 6-year contract with Premier League side Tottenham ahead of a possible move, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News.

We are currently unable to confirm claims from Ignazio Genuardi that the player will undergo a medical with Spurs today and it is our understanding that negotiations have not yet been concluded between the two clubs about a fee, with the Premier League side hoping to close a deal at €10m + €5m in bonuses, whilst Les Grenats seek to edge up both the base fee and the bonus structure to €20m all-in.

Last night, Tottenham agreed to loan the player back to Metz for 2021/22 in the event that a deal is concluded.

The final straight for this deal, Spurs could have a total agreement reached by the end of the day.

Two Premier League sides interested in Saint-Étienne’s Mahdi Camara

Le Progrès report this afternoon that two Premier League clubs are interested in Saint-Étienne midfielder Mahdi Camara. The 23-year-old, who was recently named captain by Les Verts, is looking to raise his salary at the club, in accordance with his new leadership role.

The first of the two clubs interested is said to be a mid-table team, while the other unnamed club was recently promoted (either Brentford, Norwich of Watford). For the time being, no offer has come in.

Camara, who made his debut at ASSE in 2018 after coming through the youth ranks at the club, is upset at earning less than his backup, Zaydou Youssouf, and has opened the door to a move even if he remains attached to Saint-Étienne. Nevertheless, the club is under financial restrictions and must sell first before offering their captain a new contract – a departure for midfielder Ryad Boudebouz could be that catalyst.
