So You Think You Can Book? – DDT vs. ROH's 13th Anniversary Show

In the debut episode of So You Think You Can Book? we invite Cewshcast and Cewsh Reviews veteran DDT on to be our guinea pig. His mission? Rebook Ring of Honor’s 13th Anniversary Show that just took place a few weeks ago. This is the show where Samoa Joe made his grand return to ROH after nearly a decade away and it was meant to serve as a rebirth of sorts for the much maligned indy promotion. DDT has long been known for his ROH skepticism, and now he’s getting the chance to see if he can do it better than they did. Did he succeed? That’s for you to decide.

How do you decide? Through voting, of course! Underneath the podcast is a poll where you can decide whether DDT or Ring of Honor did a better job of booking this show. Does DDT have a future in wrestling booking? Could ROH do better with literally anyone off the street? Only you, (and everyone else who listens to this podcast,) can decide.

Yuki Tsunoda confirmed at AlphaTauri for 2021!

AlphaTauri has confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda will make his Formula 1 debut and partner Pierre Gasly at the team next season, in place of Daniil Kvyat.

The 20-year-old Japanese driver is part of both the Red Bull Junior Team and Honda’s young driver programme and this year has been racing for the Carlin team in Formula 2.

Tsunoda had been widely tipped to get the nod after securing enough points to earn a Formula 1 superlicense as a result of his third place in this year’s F2 championship, having previously won the F4 Japanese Championship in 2018,

His maiden season in F2 saw him secure seven podiums, two feature race victories and a sprint race win.

He’s taking part in this week’s young driver test in Abu Dhabi having previously driven an older spec car at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola.

“Red Bull has been following Yuki’s career for a while now and I am sure he will be a great asset to our team,” commented AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost on Wednesday.

“Watching him in Formula 2 this year, he has demonstrated the right mix of racing aggression and good technical understanding.

“During the test in Imola in November when he drove our 2018 car, his lap times were very consistent over a race simulation, he progressed throughout the day and gave our engineers useful feedback.

“His integration with the Honda engineers has been seamless, which certainly helps. At the test in Abu Dhabi this week, he proved to be a fast learner and that he is ready to make the step to Formula 1.”

Tsunoda himself was delighted to be able to confirm his promotion to the top rank of motorsport.

“Like most racing drivers, it has always been my goal to race in Formula 1, so I am very happy with this news,” he said. “I want to thank Scuderia AlphaTauri, Red Bull and Doctor Marko for giving me this opportunity.

“And of course everyone from Honda, for all their support so far in my career, giving me great opportunities to race in Europe,” he continued.

“I must also thank the teams that I have raced with to get to this point, particularly Carlin, with whom I have learned so much this year.

“I realise that I will be carrying the hopes of a lot of Japanese F1 fans next year and I will be doing my best for them too.”

Tsunoda will be the first Japanese driver to compete in F1 since Kamui Kobayashi participated in the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

SS21 Trend alert: Five takeaways from the Asian catwalks

A new report by Heuritech analyses next season’s trends as seen on the Asian catwalks of Tokyo and Shanghai. With data sourced from millions of Instagram images in both China and Japan, the Paris-based analytics platform was able to capture the dynamics of trends in both markets.

The curation of trends results in the comparison of data to forecast Summer 2021 when compared to Summer 2020. Heuritech’s proprietary image recognition technology was used to recognise thousands of products and trends in images.

5 trends from the Asian fashion cities for SS21

  1. Taffeta is a bold bet in both China and Japan, making it a trend to keep a close eye on as we approach Summer 2021
  2. Pinstripes, linen, and medium blue are the trends that are slated to take off more in China compared to Japan by Summer ‘21
  3. Muslin, gingham, and tie dye are all considered fashion bets in Japan while in China they are either safe bets or steady trends
  4. Pastel purple, cool tones, and white were seen in street style and the runways, and are predicted to be safe bets in both China and Japan
  5. During Seoul Fashion Week, metallic fabrics and styling a dress over pants are two trends that was also spotted during European fashion weeks, confirming more will be seen in the new year.

One bold trend that is resonating far beyond Asia, is the utilitarian vibe. Details like cargo pockets, novel zip closures, safety fabrics and practical elements like inside pockets for mobile phones and hand sanitiser resonate in a multitude of markets. The added streetwear dimension can easily be embraced by those coming out of lockdown regions and back into a new, accessible yet cautious world.

#1 Contender Divas Battle Royal

Paige won the number one contender Divas battle royal, earning a WWE Divas Championship shot against Nikki Bella at this month’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view. This match was said to be kept pretty short, particularly for a battle royal. Nikki Bella was on commentary during the match. Afterwards, Paige cut a promo until she was laid out by Naomi.

– Bray Wyatt is in the ring now cutting a promo. Wyatt cut another cryptic promo, calling someone out that he doesn’t say by name.

– The Lucha Dragons def. The Ascension in tag-team action. This was kept relatively short, with Kalisto shining in spots with his crazy, high-flying offense. The crowd was into The Lucha Dragons in London.

– Rmoan Reigns comes out to be interviewed by Booker T. The fans interrupted Reigns while he was talking, breaking out in a loud “Suplex City! Suplex City!” chant. Big Show then came out and chokeslammed Reigns through one of the taxi cabs that was on the stage. Reigns gets taken to the back on a stretcher.

– Randy Orton def. Cesaro via Disqualification. Orton was well-received by the U.K. fans, as was Cesaro. Tyson Kidd and Natalya was at ringside in Cesaro’s corner for the match. The finish saw Orton get the win by DQ when Kidd interfered. After the match, Kane came out and re-started the match, only now it’s a handicap match with Cesaro and Kidd against Orton.

– Randy Orton def. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd in a handicap match. Kane re-started the match after Orton won via DQ due to Kidd interfering. The match was a handicap match where if Orton lost, he would no longer be the number one contender, but if he wins, he gets to choose the stipulation for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view later this month. Orton picked up the win with an RKO out of nowhere on Kidd.

– Dean Ambrose def. Adam Rose in singles action. The fans in London loved Ambrose. He scored the “W” with the Dirty Deeds in a pretty short match.

– Backstage, Kane and Big Show are talking. Big Show convinces Kane to change the main event tonight to Seth Rollins vs. Kane. Kane promised to do what’s best for business.

– Stardust def. Fandango in singles action. The match only last two minutes.

– Backstage, Daniel Bryan approaches Kane. Bryan basically gets Kane worked up and tells him to be a man during his match with Seth Rollins, not a stooge.

– Seth Rollins def. Kane in singles action. Kane came out in a suit. Once the bell rang, Kane didn’t move. Kane eventually took his suit off and laid down. When Rollins covered him, Kane kicked out at two. J&J Security hit the ring, but Kane cleared them out. Rollins tried begging off Kane, but Kane hit him with a chokeslam. Kane then laid down and put Rollins’ arm over him while the referee counted to three.

– Damien Mizdow def. The Miz in a quick two minute match. Summer Rae was at ringside with Mizdow. Mizdow picked up the win with a roll-up.

– The Prime Time Players cut a promo mocking Los Matadores.

– Ryback def. Luke Harper via Disqualification. This match was kept short as well. The DQ happened when Harper threw part of the announce table at Ryback. After the match, Dean Ambrose hit the ring and attacked Harper.

– Backstage, Naomi was apologizing to Paige for attacking her earlier, only to reveal that she was faking her apology. She told Paige “it’s all about me.”

– Dolph Ziggler def. Neville in a match that the U.K. crowd was big-time into. This was described as one of — if not the — best match of the night. After the match, Sheamus came out and attacked Ziggler.

– The main event segment for this week’s RAW is an in-ring segment with Randy Orton and Seth Rollins picking their stipulations for their WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at this month’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Rollins is in the ring in a recliner as Orton makes his way out. Orton picks his stipulation, which is a steel cage match. Rollins picks his stipulation — the RKO is banned from the match. The show ends with Orton attacking Rollins, only to have J&J Security help Rollins escape as the show goes off the air.

RONDA ROUSEY: “Things Did NOT Go As Planned At WrestleMania 31”

The Bella Twins Say They Want Their Own Total Divas Spin-Off Show

The following are highlights of a new Bella Twins interview:

On a Total Divas spin-off:

“Brie and I definitely want to do a spin-off; a show which will focus on our family and also includes our men. I think it would be amazing. We have this group of girlfriends which we’ve kind of introduced to the world, but not really. Not only are they beautiful but they have personalities that you wouldn’t believe, they kind of remind me of Cameron Diaz’s character in the film ‘There’s Something About Mary’.”

On working with their significant others on television:

Brie: “Something Daniel and I have always said is that if something organically happens that would be great (to be on ‘RAW’ together). As of right now there’s nothing in the works, but you can never say never, because in the future, you never know. I know the fans love it when we’re together I think it could be good television.”

Nikki: “I think, as of now, they’re trying to keep John and I as far apart as possible, and have us both focus on our championships. That then makes ‘Total Divas’ something special to tune into because it’s the only show where you can see John and I together.”

Jim Ross Blog: Extreme Rules Thoughts, Samoa Joe/WWE, Reigns & More

The following are highlights of the latest Jim Ross blog.

On Samoa Joe: “Next week on the Ross Report I will have a provocative conversation with @SamoaJoe who some feel is headed to WWE sooner than later. It would take me about 10 minutes to sign Joe if I were still in my old, talent relations role in WWE.”

On Roman Reigns: “Roman Reigns is on track to become what WWE wants him to be. I believe in this athlete and feel that he simply needs time and not to be force fed the audience and he will end up being the star that WWE wants/needs. Reigns match with Big Show was a pleasant surprise and arguably the best match on the show.”

On the Extreme Rules main event: “I’m not a fan of escaping the cage as a way of winning a cage match but that’s not the talent’s issue. Orton and Rollins worked hard but it was too predictable that multiple outside parties were going to get involved in the conclusion of the match. Some fans and apparently many in the decision making business of the overall wrestling biz feel that a loss is damning for a talent a takes them down too many notches. Obviously, I don’t share totally in that philosophy.”

On Sheamus: “Sheamus is on track to become a hit as a villain if he continues to perfect the nuances necessary to do so. He’s a big, bully of a man who seems to enjoy his bad guy positioning. His match with Ziggler provided me with a surprising outcome. Thought the ass kissing phase went a little long but in the end, no pun intended, Ziggler got a win and has an issue while Sheamus left with heat. Good for both.”
