WWE NXT TV Taping Results – Spoilers From Full Sail University (6/12)

— The following are spoilers from night one of the NXT TV tapings:

NXT kicked off two straight nights of television tapings at Full Sail University on Wednesday. The tapings are building to NXT’s SummerSlam weekend TakeOver special in Toronto.

Pre-show match —

– Rinku Singh defeated Sean Maluta

NXT TV taping spoilers —

– There was an in-ring segment with The Undisputed Era and a new TV introduction was shown that only features them. Adam Cole said him winning the NXT Championship is only the beginning.

Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle, and Tyler Breeze each interrupted, and Breeze said that William Regal has made a six-man tag for tonight with three members of Undisputed Era facing Breeze, Riddle & Velveteen Dream.

– Damian Priest defeated Raul Mendoza
This was the TV reintroduction of the former Punishment Martinez. He has a new entrance featuring spotlights and his logo on the tron.

– Xia Li defeated Taynara Conti
A spinning kick got Li the win.

– The Undisputed Era (NXT Champion Adam Cole, Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish w/ Kyle O’Reilly) defeated NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream, Tyler Breeze & Matt Riddle
Strong caught Dream with The End of Heartache after some distractions and miscommunication with Breeze.

– Mr. Regal announced a Breakout tournament for Performance Center wrestlers who haven’t had many opportunities yet. The winner of the eight-man tournament will receive a future title shot.

The bracket for the tournament has Jordan Myles (formerly known as ACH) vs. Boa and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott (formerly Shane Strickland) vs. Cameron Grimes (formerly Trevor Lee) on the left side. The right side has Bronson Reed (formerly Jonah Rock) vs. Dexter Lumis (formerly Samuel Shaw) and Angel Garza (formerly Garza Jr.) vs. Joaquin Wilde (formerly DJZ).

– Angel Garza defeated Joaquin Wilde in a Breakout tournament first round match
This was excellent. The crowd was into the match and elevated for the finish where Garza hit a cradle sit-down slam. Garza won over the crowd as a top guy in one match.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defeated The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler) by DQ
Jaxson Ryker interfered and caused the disqualification. After the match, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch made the save but also took a long look at the Tag Team titles.

– Keith Lee defeated Nykos Rikos
The crowd loved Lee. He got the quick win here.

– Mia Yim defeated Aliyah (w/ Vanessa Borne)
Yim got the decisive victory and then went to the commentary desk, seemingly to ask for stronger competition.

– Kushida defeated Jeff Parker
Kushida submitted him with the Hoverboard Lock.

– Cameron Grimes defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in a Breakout tournament first round match
This had good back-and-forth action, with Grimes using a double stomp to the chest to get the win.

– Bianca Belair defeated Priscilla Zuniga
The former Diamante from Impact Wrestling was making an appearance here and took the fall after Belair hit the K.O.D.

– Roderick Strong defeated Tyler Breeze
Good match that got plenty of time before O’Reilly and Fish ran down and caused just enough of a distraction to allow Strong to hit the End of Heartache.

– Jordan Myles defeated Boa in a Breakout tournament first round match
Malcolm Bivens (the former Stokely Hathaway) was ringside watching this match to scout Myles. Myles won with a 450.

– Damian Priest defeated Blanco Loco
This was a quick match to show the dominance of Priest.

– Bronson Reed defeated Dexter Lumis in a Breakout tournament first round match
A big splash got Reed the win.

– NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defeated Io Shirai in a steel cage match to retain her title
Great match. The Horsewomen got involved and ran a distraction, taking out the outside referee and locking the door. Candice LeRae ran down to even the odds and allowed Shirai to hit a moonsault from the top on Baszler. The finish saw Baszler apply the Kirifuda Clutch as Shirai was halfway out the door. Shirai slammed the door behind herself, allowing Baszler to tumble to the outside and retain her title.

After the match, Shirai seemingly blamed LeRae for the loss and destroyed LeRae with a chair. Officials took their time removing LeRae from the cage as tonight’s tapings ended.

Dark Match: Rinku Singh def. Sean Maluta.

Week 1

– Undisputed Era comes out. Adam Cole says, with his championship, they will mold NXT in their Undisputed image. They air a re-cut version of the NXT open using all Undisputed Era footage. Adam Cole says they will have all the gold by the end of 2019 and no one will be able to stop them, not even William Regal or Triple H. Velveteen Dream comes out and says the NXT championship would look good with his North American title. Matt Riddle then comes out to remind Cole that Riddle beat him. Tyler Breeze walks out and says William Regal made a match with Breeze, Dream and Riddle versus any 3 members of the Undisputed Era tonight.

– Damian Priest def. Raul Mendoza.

– William Regal announces an 8 Man Breakout tournament featuring talent that haven’t been featured on NXT tv much if at all.

– Xia Li def. Taynara Conti.

– Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, and Bobby Fish def. Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle and Tyler Breeze.

Week 2

– NXT Breakout tournament: Angel Garza def. Joaquin Wilde.

– NXT Tag Title Match: Street Profits def. Forgotten Sons by DQ when Jaxson Ryker interferes.

Post match: All three Forgotten Sons attack the Profits. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burchake the save, but confront the Street Profits afterwards.

– Keith Lee def. Nykos Rikos.

– Mia Yim def. Aliyah (w/ Vanessa Bourne.)

Post match: Mia Yim goes over to the commentary table and yells something at the camera.

– Kushida def. Shane Matthews.

– NXT Breakout Tournament: Cameron Grimes def. Isiah “Swerve” Scott.

– Bianca Belair def. Priscilla Zuniga (AKA Diamante from Impact Wrestling.)

– Roderick Strong def. Tyler Breeze.

– NXT Breakout Tournament: Jordan Myles def. Boa. Stokely Hathaway was seated ringside for this match.

– Damian Priest def. Blanco Loco.

– NXT Breakout Tournament: Bronson Reed def. Dexter Lumis.

– NXT Women’s championship: Shayna Baszler def. Io Shirai to retain in a steel cage match. During the match, Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir, and Candice LeRae all get involved.

Post match: A frustrated Io Shirai attacks and lays out Candice LeRae.

The Lawcast – WCW Great American Bash 1991 Is Ric Flair's Sweet Revenge

Welcome, boys and girls, to another episode of the Lawcast. This week we’re finally taking a break from WWE and taking a trip down South for another visit to early 90s WCW. This a special show with a ton of backstory behind it, as this is the first show after Ric Flair walks out the door with the World title and heads to WWE. With their backs against the wall, and an opportunity to begin a new era of the company out of the shadow of Flair, WCW winds up, gives it their best shot and, well, delivers this.

But that’s not all! We’ve also got a scaffold match as an opener, the likes of Oz, Badstreet, and Big Daddy Dink, and possibly the oddest main event in WCW history.

Luchasaurus Talks About His Character, Tag Team With Jungle Boy, AEW, more

Thanks to Chris Van Vliet of WSVN-TV for sending this in:

Hey Rajah,

Click Here: Cheap Chiefs Rugby Jersey 2019

Just wanted to reach out to you and let you know about the interview I did with Luchasaurus before Fyter Fest in Daytona Beach, FL.

He talks about how Dusty Rhodes was influential in coming up with the Luchasaurus character in NXT, how he started the tag team with Jungle Boy, his master’s degree, creating his masks and much more!

Is Luchasaurus 65 million years old?

Luchasaurus character is a very sarcastic guy. He’s so out there. He thinks he’s 65 million years old. We haven’t really broached how crazy we’re gonna take this character’s backstory. As of right now, I like to say that. I also like to say I’m two tons plus Jungle Boy when they announce my combined weight.

On who came up with the character:

It didn’t come from my brain exactly. It just kind of molded over time organically and I think that’s why it works. When I was in developmental in WWE, I was working with Dusty Rhodes. He was one of the few guys that really believed in me because he saw this weird guy that had this Master’s degree have an interesting look. He didn’t know how to place it. He knew there was something like this Luchasaurus in his head and we just couldn’t put our finger on it and every week we’d try something.

On the birth of the Luchasaurus name in Lucha Underground:

When I got to Lucha Underground on the day I started, they were like here we got this character with a giant snake and helmet mask … Before I went out there, I ask them to cut my hair out. So we started to cut it up a little bit and then when I went out there the crowd just started chanting something to me. I thought they were making fun of me … I got to the back and they’re like ‘dude, they were chanting Luchasaurus. I don’t know why but that’s pretty cool. You should just run with it on the indies because you’re trying to resurrect your career. I was like ‘you know what, I’m just gonna do that. It’s crazy and it made me think of Dusty right away because he wanted me to do something like that but I was like I’m not gonna talk like I’m a dinosaur grunting. I’m just gonna be myself with the Master’s degree but now I have a mask so all those rough edges are kind of smoothed out because I have some crazy character that lets me really just be myself. So it’s almost like an ode to Dusty for me. I just started to run with it but it was hard at first because everyone looks at it as this is just some stupid gimmick, this must be some guy from the middle of Mexico that just walks around and is really big so it took me a while to kind of knock down the doors and have people give me opportunities and let me create the characters throughout my indie career.

How he got into wrestling and then meeting Jungle Boy:

I was at the gym and a friend of mine said ‘hey, my friend does a wrestling school. This guy named Ric Drasin, who’s like a bodybuilder wrestler in the 80s and it was right by my house. He was just like ‘you should just go and check it out. we’re always talking wrestling in here.’ So I went and checked it out and it looked cool and that’s where I met Jungle Boy. This is 2009 when he was a little kid. We started like the same week.

On how teaming with Jungle Boy came together:

It finally happened at Bar Wrestling for Joey Ryan. Joey said hey I want to put you and Jungle Boy together as a team because I was trying to get Jungle Boy there to wrestle and then I was like wait a minute you’re right, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy sounds like a good combo. So he put us together as a team and we came out to the ring and I said why don’t you come out on my shoulder and let’s do something together.

On who reached out to him to join AEW:

Originally, it was Cody. Cody reached out to me. I had a discussion with The Young Bucks at Bar Wrestling and then the next thing you know I have Cody reaching out to me on my messages saying ‘hey man are you signed with anyone else?’ They thought I was signed with Ring Of Honor. I never signed with them. I did some matches but we never got to contract negotiations and I was probably just gonna keep coming back here and there. I was like ‘no, I’m not signed.’ [Cody said] well we want to bring you into Double or Nothing and don’t sign anywhere else.’ It was really cool that Cody reached out like that because I felt like this character was kind of his dad’s idea for me somehow that we never got to so it was like a special moment for me.

Diversity for a new decade, key dos and don’ts for brands

With protests against police brutality having occurred this summer in fifty states and in twenty countries, and in which, according to the NY Times, between 15 and 26 million Americans participated, equality is a global mandate. No brand has the luxury of remaining on the sidelines on this issue or they will face serious repercussions. This is the message communicated from the annual Stylus Trend Intelligence Summit which, despite its 2020 virtual format, sets out to decode how industries must evolve, while spotlighting brands already spearheading change, and exploring how innovative founders are catering to contemporary BIPOC audiences.

Stylus’s aim, through its assembling of diverse expert voices, is to equip brands and agencies with the creative insights they need in order to make transformative business decisions. And although our industry currently faces all kinds of turmoil, diversity is one area in which the road ahead couldn’t be signposted any clearer.

The problem with brands claiming to be unpolitical

According to Edelman, 77 percent of Americans say it is important for brands to respond to racial injustice to earn or keep their trust, while Morning Consul reports that 52 percent of Gen Z say the Black Lives Matter Movement has had a major impact on their world view. Outside of the US, nearly 90 percent of consumers feel that brands have a duty to respond to the Black Lives Matter movement. More than half of Americans under the age of 16 identify as Minority making this generation of consumers the most multi-cultural to date.

Fashion companies that have long attempted to stay out of politics or claim to remain neutral in our increasingly volatile political climate will be seen as relics of a less-enlightened era. “It’s a euphemism that people should immediately find suspicious,” says Amber Davis, Director of Creative Strategy at Vox Creative. “Every brand has politics, whether it be known or not, external or internal. Not wanting to upset certain people won’t get you off the hook anymore.” The question Is this too political? has too often been used as shield by brands for what they don’t want to address, but today’s customer will be turned off.

The need for brands to develop a culturally literate lens

Storytelling is a major part of contemporary brand messaging, therefore, questioning dominant narratives is the only way to eradicate racial insensitivity. The process will be uncomfortable and confrontational but Levis addressing its reliance on the slave-built cotton industry in collaboration with artist/designer Tremaine Emory for their Denim Tears capsule collection is an example of a brand taking meaningful steps.

Melle Hock, EVP Executive Planning and Strategy Director at Edelman, and co-founder of Art Noir, tells Stylus, “The foundation of being a great ally is being educated and well-informed.” In 2021 the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands will stage an exhibition which is sure to be influential as we collectively learn to view the world through a more culturally literate lens. Entitled “Slavery,” it exposes the involvement of the Netherlands in the slave trade during the country’s prosperous Dutch colonial period spanning from the 17th to the 19th century.

Davis advises both individuals and brands to adopt the same attitude: “They should stop thinking of themselves only as allies, but instead as co-conspirators who are also putting themselves on the line––versus standing by ‘in support of’.”

Brands which have relied on legacy and heritage narratives have often cultivated an exclusivity centered around activities such as polo, country clubs, hunting, the jet set lifestyle, are in danger of appearing out-of-touch or guilty of othering. Those expanding the concept of heritage, such as Aurora James who collaborates with Kenyan and Ethiopian artisans for her Brother Vellies shoe collection, or Kenneth Ize and BFyne which promote an “Afro-politan” aesthetic are examples of new legacy leaders.

Fashion, like all industries, is facing a reckoning, but brands would be remiss in mistaking this movement for a trend. The pendulum of change will not be swinging back this time.
