WWE NXT GM William Regal Proud Of “Going To Bat For” Sasha Banks

Metro.co.uk recently spoke with NXT General Manager William Regal and published Part 1 of their interview. As part of his role as NXT GM, Regal is one of WWE’s top talent scouts. He’s responsible for the signing of many Superstars currently in NXT and on the main roster.
Regal was asked if there is anybody not currently signed to NXT that he’d like to bring on board. He said there are actually a lot of people he’s keeping an eye on, but did not want to name them and put pressure on those talents. He added that WWE can only sign a finite number of people per year and there are times when a particular wrestler has big potential but could benefit from more time on the independent scene.
When asked which current or past NXT performer he’s most proud of signing, Regal named Sasha Banks. “I don’t really like singling anyone out, but Sasha Banks,” he said. “I’ve known her since she was 18, and the previous people that were doing what I’m doing now wouldn’t even give her the time of day.

“When I was asked by Triple H to be part of that team, of which there is nobody still here who was in the team at the time, I kept asking to bring her in, to which people replied ‘oh no, there is nothing in her, she’s useless.’ Sasha was the first person I went to bat for, and her development is a great thing to see.”
Regal added that he’s also very proud of signing Bayley and Becky Lynch. Regal said he actually had the idea for Bayley’s character, since a few acts in WWE are geared towards younger males but none were going after the young female demographic. Bayley’s character is an extension of her actual personality, so she was a great fit for that role.
Here’s a link to the full Part 1 of the article with Part 2 to be released later in the week:

What Happened After Raw Went Off The Air Last Night?

Despite Finn Balor not appearing on this week’s episode of RAW, he did appear for the live crowd after RAW went off the air in Wilkes Barre, PA at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
WWE held a dark segment that saw Seth Rollins recover from his loss to Samoa Joe in the main event until Bray Wyatt came out. Wyatt and Joe attacked Rollins until Balor ran down to make the save. Balor and Rollins hit their finishers on the heels to send the crowd home happy.

Catherine Deneuve signs letter denouncing #MeToo ‘witch hunt’: ‘Men should be free to hit on women’

The French actress Catherine Deneuve is one of about 100 female writers, performers and academics who have put their names to an open letter denouncing the "puritanism" they claim has emerged in the wake of the recent sexual harassment scandals.

The letter, published in Le Monde, also condemns the denunciations, which followed allegations of rape and sexual harassment against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, as a "witch hunt", and claims that men should be allowed "to hit on women".

“Rape is a crime, but trying to seduce someone, even persistently or cack-handedly, is not – nor is men being gentlemanly a macho attack,” the letter, which has also been signed by Catherine Millet, author of the 2002 bestseller The Sexual Life of Catherine M, says. “Men have been punished summarily, forced out of their jobs when all they did was touch someone’s knee or try to steal a kiss.”

The letter also criticises social media campaigns, such as #MeToo, for unleashing a “puritanical […] wave of purification”.

“What began as freeing women up to speak has today turned into the opposite – we intimidate people into speaking ‘correctly’, shout down those who don’t fall into line, and those women who refused to bend are regarded as complicit and traitors.

“Instead of helping women, this frenzy to send these ‘pigs’ to the abattoir actually helps the enemies of sexual liberty – religious extremists and the worst sort of reactionaries.

“As women we do not recognise ourselves in this feminism, which beyond denouncing the abuse of power takes on a hatred of men and of sexuality.

“[Women] sufficiently aware that the sexual urge is by its nature wild and aggressive. But we are also clear-eyed enough not to confuse an awkward attempt to pick someone up with a sexual attack.”

This is not the first time that Deneuve, 74, who is best known for playing a prostitute in Luis Buñuel’s 1967 film Belle de Jour, has spoken out on this issue.

“I don’t think it is the right method to change things, it is excessive,” she said last year, referring to the #MeToo hashtag. “After ‘calling out your pig’ what are we going to have, ‘call our your whore’?”

Plans for Enzo Amore and Big Cass Going Forward Revealed

After going unanswered for several weeks, we finally found out who the person responsible for attacking Enzo Amore a few weeks back was. On Raw, General Manager Kurt Angle ruled out the possibility of The Revival and The Big Show being the culprits, and Corey Graves then showed security camera footage of Big Cass staging an attack on himself backstage. In the end, Big Cass confessed to attacking his friend, and then he turned on him with a big boot to the face. WWE has now officially broken up one of the more popular tag teams in the entire company, so what is the next move for Enzo Amore and Big Cass now that they are through?
On the Wrestling Observer Radio show, Dave Meltzer explained that Cass mentioned a few justifiable reasons for turning on his partner. Enzo has been the reason for many of their biggest losses as a team, and the duo were never able to capture tag team gold in NXT or on the main roster. The plan is apparently not to have the two of them feud with each other, at least not anything long-term. Instead, Big Cass is going to be pushed as a top star with new music. Meltzer said that Enzo is likely keeping his music and the catchphrases, but he’ll be “lucky” to get any TV time at all now. It does look like WWE does at least have some plans for Amore though.
Meltzer said that WWE is probably going to be moving Enzo Amore over to the cruiserweight division as part of 205 Live. The company knows that Enzo is still very popular, and is a name that people know. Therefore, they would like for him to work over there and get the division some more attention. It is possible that Enzo Amore will at least speak out about his partner turning on him (he didn’t even get a single word in on Raw this past week). However, if they do feud with each other, it may be a one-off match, and we all know who will be probably end up being victorious in the end. Big Cass will definitely be the one to benefit from the breakup though, so expect to see him on television much more going forward.

Scott Steiner To Stephanie McMahon, Triple H: Leave Wrestling

Big Poppa Pump is a former superstar who is not afraid to say what’s on his mind.
Here are some highlights from a media call promoting this Sunday’s Slammiversary XV pay-per-view show at Impact Zone in Orlando:
What changes should occur in pro wrestling?

The first change they should make is getting rid of Stephanie McMahon and Hunter McMahon because they’re two idiots who are running the whole place up there. It’s, like, I feel sorry for wrestlers nowadays. They’ve got to follow the instructions of these two idiots that clearly don’t know what they’re doing. They’re not watching because the ratings are down, and the reason why I call him Hunter McMahon is because she obviously wears the pants.
Here’s a video link to the interview with Steiner:

Austin Aries Officially Released from WWE

UPDATE: Per the Wrestling Observer, Austin Aries asked for his release from WWE and it was granted to him earlier today.
It may be shocking to hear, but “The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived” is no longer a member of the WWE roster. WWE.com confirmed today that Aries was released from his WWE contract. A statement was put out today stating: “WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors.” Austin Aries joined the promotion in 2016 and was promoted to the main roster late last year. He had been working in the cruiserweight division prior to his release, but he decided recently to take time off from his wrestling career while he healed up from injuries.
No word on why Austin Aries has been released has been given thus far, but hopefully we should have some more answers soon. Aries was a widely-praised wrestler who worked for promotions such as ROH and TNA, both places where he won the world title, but he was relegated to the cruiserweight division during his time with WWE. Austin Aries was recently wrestling Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship on several shows, but he was never able to win the title. No word on what Aries plans to do now that he has been released from the promotion.

The news may come as a surprise to some fans, especially since his fiancee Thea Trinidad was recently signed by WWE, but Aries seems content with his departure. On Twitter, Aries commented by simply stating: “It’s a beautiful day.” This may suggest that his departure was a mutual agreement. Aries is set to release his autobiography entitled Foodfight: My Plant-Powered Journey From the Bingo Halls to the Big Time is set to be released soon as well. WWE has confirmed that “The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived” was indeed released from the company on July 7th, 2017.

Ryback Was Facing Ultimate Warrior at WM30? Dana Warrior Responds

Former WWE Superstar Ryback got some people talking this week when he brought up an interesting bit of trivia regarding Wrestlemania 30 in 2014. When talking about the big event on his podcast Conversations with The Big Guy, Ryback revealed that a very intriguing possibility was brought up to him prior to the show. If what he claimed on the podcast is true, Ryback was originally scheduled to face WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 30. Ryback instead teamed up with Curtis Axel on the pre-show of Wrestlemania that year in a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships. The match was ultimately won by The Usos.
On the most recent edition of his podcast, Ryback claims that Mark Carrano showed him the card for Wrestlemania early that year and that he was slotted to face the wrestling legend on the show. He stated on the show that “I just said, ‘cool.’ But, in my head, at the time, it was during my heel deal, that first one, where it probably wasn’t gonna be a favorable position for me as far as all that. But I was excited, because I figured it was his one last moment in WWE. So, I thought it would be really cool. I didn’t think I would necessarily be the right guy for that, because I didn’t know anything about him. I didn’t know what kind of shape he was in, if he could wrestle or not, but I 100 percent would have done it, because I did everything that they asked me there.” The former Intercontinental Champion claimed that he had concerns about the match, mainly that it was only supposed to last about a minute or two, which he thought would damage his character at the time.
The Ultimate Warrior did not wrestle at Wrestlemania 30 that year, opting instead to headline the WWE Hall of Fame class as the main inductee. Warrior’s widow, Dana, has since responded to Ryback’s claims of a match and she denied that it was ever in the cards. Via Ultimate Warrior’s Twitter account, Dana tweeted “Not true. It always saddens me when people tell untruths on a man’s grave to promote their lives. Do your OWN work.” Furthermore, Warrior’s former manager Steve Wilton commented that he negotiated Warrior’s entire return to WWE that year and that he had no intention of getting back in the ring. Wilton stated via Twitter:

Zero truth. I negotiated the whole deal with Warrior. He wanted to be nothing but an ambassador for the company and mentor the young talent.
— Steve Wilton (@SteveWiltonUK) July 14, 2017

Zero truth to Ryback vs Warrior at WM30. Warrior had no intention of ever stepping in the ring. Listen to his speech. It was never discussed

WWE NXT Results – July 26th, 2017

It’s that time of the week again: time for another exciting edition of WWE NXT. We’re getting ready for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. The past two editions of Takeover from the Barclays Center have been outstanding with some even considering them to be better than the SummerSlam pay-per-view that WWE puts out from the same building the following day. If this card is anything to go by, the third starlight show in Brooklyn is sure to be up there with all of the best Takeover shows we’ve seen thus far.
Ember Moon vs. Lei’d Tapa –
Tapa makes her WWE debut in this match with a notable size advantage. She towered over Moon and tried to intimidate her early on. However, Tapa’s efforts did not seem to work in this case. Aside from a few big shots early on, Tapa did not stand much of a chance here. Moon very quickly made her comeback and went for a Tornado DDT on Tapa, but Moon turned it into a vertical suplex at the last second. She kicked and punched the much larger Tapa down to the ground before going up to one of the posts and hitting the Eclipse for the win.

After the match, Moon got on the mic and said that she wanted Asuka at Takeover. She said that she is ready to face and dethrone the undefeated Asuka before she headed to the back.
Winner: Ember Moon
We follow that up with a tweet from Roderick Strong who claimed that, despite losing a NXT Championship match to Bobby Roode under dubious circumstances, is not finished with Roode or his pursuit for the title.
Damon Ramos & Timothy Bumpers vs. The Authors of Pain –

This match never even got started because as the Authors and Paul Ellering made their way down the ramp, Nikki Cross suddenly emerged out of nowhere and blocked them. Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe then suddenly attacked Ramos and Bumpers who were both waiting in the ring. Akam and Rezar attack the SAnitY members until Wolfe and Dain decide to flea the scene.
A vignette for the Street Profits team, consisting of Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford was aired. They are still “coming soon.”
No Way Jose was shown making his way to the building earlier that day. Thea Trinidad, who was officially referred to as Zolita Vega by the announcers this week, and she warns Jose that he caused a fire by messing with Andrade “Cien” Almas that he cannot dance around.

Cezar Bononi vs. The Velveteen Dream –
Oh, shucks. I missed you, Dream! Bononi is much taller than ol’ Velvey is, and he is the same guy who got a surprise win over Andrade “Cien” Almas a few months back. Those were his two main points of credibility here. He did win early on though as he hit Dream with a Falcon Arrow and a few other huge shots. Dream eventually reversed his offense, and he got the taller Bononi up for the strange cartwheel/Fireman’s Carry move that still doesn’t have a name yet. Dream immediately went up and hit the Purple Rainmaker elbow drop for the victory.
After the match, Kayla Braxton interviewed Velvey “The Dragon” Dreamboat on the ramp and asked him what his goals in NXT were. He’s been around for months now, so that’s actually a pretty decent question. Dream called the Full Sail fans ugly and that we’ll have to wait to hear an interview from him. Always leaving us wanting more. 🙂
William Regal was backstage in his office when he announced to Christy St. Cloud that Ember Moon will officially take on Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship at Takeover: Brooklyn. I’m afraid your days may be numbered Asuka, sorry it has to end this way.
Drew McIntyre came down to the ring for a promo. He talked about the fact that he will be facing Bobby Roode in the main event of Takeover next month. Drew said that he is a man who doesn’t look backwards, only forwards. So he immediately looks backwards as he talks about his original WWE run in 2009 when he was dubbed “The Chosen One” and didn’t work for what he wanted. He says that he became the hardest worker in the world during his time away from WWE and that is why he is back with the company. He then said that Bobby Roode is the most entitled person in the locker room because he believes that it is “his NXT.” McIntyre encourages everybody to stand up as he proclaims that he will win the title because “We are NXT,”
Bobby Roode will be responding to McIntyre’s words next week.
Backstage, we get an interview from former CWC competitor and recent WWE signee Raul Mendoza. Mendoza says that he has been training hard and that his debut next week will outweigh Johnny Gargano’s return. Mendoza will take on Johnny Gargano next week.
Kassius Ohno vs. Hideo Itami –
After a couple weeks of buildup between Itami and Ohno, the two of them finally came to blows with this main event. The match started off with the two veterans going back and fourth for a while with some basic maneuvers. Ohno takes the lead early on with some strikes but mostly stiff chops. When Hideo gains the upper hand, he drapes Ohno over the middle rope and kicks him across the chest. Hideo then climbs up on top of one of the ring posts and leaps onto Ohno’s back. From this point forward, Hideo Itami stayed in control for a while.
It was very clear who the villain and who the hero (no pun intended) was during this match. As Itami began working in some kicks during his offense, he was very much acting cocky and just behaving poorly. Ohno did get back into it briefly when he hit him with more punches and chops, but this was a predominantly Itami-dominated matchup. Hideo knocked him down and went for another top rope maneuver, but BAM! Itami takes an unexpected elbow to the face. Ohno finds some momentum with a shining wizard that gets him a two-count. Then he immediately hits a senton on Itami, but that still isn’t enough to put him away.
Hideo got Ohno up for a fisherman suplex and he also hit a dropkick on Ohno as he lied in the corner against one of the ring posts. Finally, Itami goes for the GTS, but Ohno manages to worm his way out of it. He shoved Itami bouncing off of the ring ropes and into a rolling elbow. With the match looking to end in Ohno’s favor, Itami decides to end the match with a low-blow kick for the cheap disqualification. Before he left the area, Hideo Itami continued the attack on his former friend. Itami hit one GTS on Ohno, but it didn’t look too impressive and Ohno didn’t fall all the way to the floor. As a result, Hideo hit another one immediately afterwards, and that seemed to do the trick. He headed to the back, but then ran back into grab Kassius Ohno and this time he slammed Ohno’s head onto the steel steps on the outside to end the show.
Winner: Kassius Ohno
It doesn’t seem likely that the feud between Ohno and Itami is over just yet. If you imagine that this will probably continue into Takeover, that match can be added alongside Ember Moon vs. Asuka, and Bobby Roode vs. Drew McIntyre for the show. Next week’s show will feature the return of Johnny Gargano, Bobby Roode and plenty of exciting action that will lead into the big show in Brooklyn next month. Check back here again next Wednesday to see the latest updates and results as we head into NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. I’ll see you NXT time!
