Oklahoma moves into top 10 after weekend win over Michigan

Manheim, Pa. – Buoyed by a 23-12 win over then No. 3 Michigan, Oklahoma has vaulted into the top 10 of the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

The Sooners (5-0) were ranked 22nd on November 10, but notable victories this season over Rutgers and Michigan have brought Mark Cody’s team up 14 spots, the biggest jump by any program so far this season.

Penn State (4-0) was a near unanimous No. 1 picking up 11 out of 12 possible first-place votes. The Nittany Lions swept a pair of duals in California, earning wins over CSU Bakersfield 39-3 and Stanford 31-12.

Iowa (5-0) remained No. 2 after winning four home duals over the weekend, while Ohio State (2-0) picked up the other first-place vote and also moved up two spots to No. 3. Oklahoma State (0-1) held at No. 4, while Nebraska (3-0) moved into the top five for the first time this season. The Huskers picked up a strong 35-4 victory over Wyoming this week.

Virginia Tech (3-1), Cornell (1-0), Oklahoma, Missouri (1-0) and Michigan (3-1) round out the rest of the top 10.

The Big Ten continues to dominate the poll, with four of the top five teams coming from the conference and nine of the conference’s 14 teams ranked in the Top 25. The Mid-American conference has five teams ranked with No. 9 Missouri joined by No. 20 Ohio, No. 21 Old Dominion, No. 22 Central Michigan and No. 25 Northern Iowa.

No new teams entered the Top 25 for the second week in a row, but there was some movement, most notably Oregon State (2-3) falling five spots to No. 23 after a weekend loss to Utah Valley, which received votes in the Top 25 for the first time in school history.

Steve Austin Clarifies Recent Comments on Not Drinking Alcohol

WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin made mainstream media headlines earlier this month for comments made on The Steve Austin Show about beer drinking, which was previously reported.
While speaking to his wife Kristin on the podcast, Austin revealed that his diet was going well and that he had not had a beer in 14 days by that point. He also gave credit to WWE Hall Of Famer Diamond Dallas Page’s DDP Yoga program, as seen below:
“My eating program is going fantastic. [I’m] sticking to my exact macros. [I’ve had] zero alcohol for right at 14 days now. Pounds are coming off. My strength is going up. Jesus Christ, I’m getting as strong as a goddamn horse over here. No alcohol and when you hit the weights on a consistent basis and eat what you’re supposed to, it is amazing the difference that you can make or I’m making,” Austin said. “I’m also doing my DDP Yoga s–t. Hell, I’m going to jump up here and do the splits like a goddang cheerleader in a minute! I’m flexible as a motherf–ker. Dallas’ program works like a b—h. I appreciate it, Dallas. I appreciate it, man. That’s a badass program. I’m sticking to it!”
Fans were shocked that The Rattlesnake had given up beer, or so it seemed. Austin, who sells his own Broken Skull IPA beer with The El Segundo Brewing Company, revealed on the latest episode of his podcast that the beer break is just temporary due to his diet, as seen below:
“There ain’t no room in my diet for alcohol at this point in time,” Austin said (H/T to Sports Illustrated). “I didn’t swear off alcohol forever. Why in the f–k would I do that? I enjoy alcohol responsibly as an adult, so therefore I will probably drink until my final day on Earth.”
Austin said that his current diet has him strictly managing his caloric intake, limiting himself to 2,700 daily calories and there are just too many calories in beer, wine and liquor. He is very serious about the diet as he logs everything he consumes in an app.

WWE NXT Results – November 21st, 2018

It was another great night for the NXT brand this past Saturday night as NXT Takeover: WarGames delivered with just about every match on the card receiving praise from fans. Tonight’s show was taped before Takeover began, so the two rings and the Los Angeles crowd were still present, but some incredible talent who were not featured on Takeover got a chance to show the fans what they are made of on this show. With that being noted, there may be no better way to kick off tonight’s NXT show than with one of the fastest rising stars in the promotion today: “Limitless” Keith Lee.
Keith Lee vs. Fidel Bravo –
Keith Lee is back to take on the unique Fidel Bravo. The size differential is noticeable right off the bat as Lee towers over the significantly smaller Bravo. They lock up and Lee instantly is able to back him into the corner of the ring. Bravo slaps him in the face. Lee just states at him before dropping him with a right.

Up against the corner, Lee dishes out a chop to the chest. He charges in the corner but Bravo is able to move out of the way. Although Bravo tried to out run and dodge each move from the big man, Lee quickly caught him with a crossbody. The “Limitless” one slammed Bravo down one more time before putting him away, getting another win, and continuing his undefeated streak in NXT.
Winner: Keith Lee
A recap of the Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler 2-out-of-3 falls match from Takeover was shown. Afterwards, Baszler said to Cathy Kelley that her title wins proves just how dominant she is. With Jessamine Duke and Marina Shafir by her side now, there is no one in NXT who can stop them.
Up next, the announcers discussed the impromptu “match” between Kassius Ohno and Matt Riddle from NXT Takeover: WarGames. This is the match that saw Riddle defeat the in-ring veteran within a matter of seconds. First, a clip of Ohno interrupting Riddle during the Kickoff show was shown. This was the impetus for their match during the event. Riddle called Ohno bitter and said that he should focus on being better. Unable to wait until tonight’s show, Riddle called out Kassius during Takeover and defeated him immediately with a knee strike.

Riddle was interviewed backstage afterwards and was congratulated on his win. His match is now the fastest match in Takeover history. He was honored to achieve the accomplishment and knocking out Ohno was the cherry on top. Riddle is looking forward to whatever comes next.
Lars Sullivan vs. Keyto Murray
In what may be one of the final NXT appearances for future main roster star Lars Sullivan, he took on a much smaller man named Keyto Murray. He splashed him in the corner right away and slammed him down. What comes next? Well, Lars is able to hit the Freak Accident and get an easy victory, that’s what.

He then takes a microphone and says that the brutality will keep coming until he gets what he deserves, and that is a shot at the NXT Championship. Just to get his point across even further, he grabbed Murray and decked him in the face with some shots. Before hitting another Freak Accident in the poor chap, Keith Lee ran down to the ring and clotheslined Sullivan right out of the ring. It appears before Lars leaves NXT, he may have one more opponent left to face, and it could be his biggest challenge yet.
Winner: Lars Sullivan
. After a video package with clips from Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano’s match from Takeover. Black is refusing to answer any questions backstage. However, he does run into Johnny’s wife, Candice LeRae. The simply have a tense stare down without saying a word until they finally leave the room.
Tommaso Ciampa retaining the NXT Championship over The Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover:WarGames was briefly recapped.
Keith Lee is walking backstage when Lars Sullivan confronts him. Referees prevent the two of them from fighting, but they will face off in a match during next week’s episode of NXT in San Jose, California.
Finally, it was time for a highlight video package for the actual WarGames match itself. Once that was over, the main event of tonight’s show began,
Candice LeRae vs. Nikki Cross –
After spending weeks waiting to get revenge on Nikki Cross for revealing to Aleister Black that Johnny Gargano was the one who attacked and injured him earlier this year, Candice LeRae had her chance to do so tonight. Given that this show took place in LA, it meant that LeRae was beloved in her home state. She smiled on the way down to the ring, but it was all bushings once the bell ring,
The two rivals began their match with a lock up. They brawled around the ring for a bit until Nikki ran out of the ring and managed to trap Candice in the ring skirt. Back in the ring, LeRae went for a crossbody onto Nikki. She tried to pin Cross twice but was only able to get her down for a two count. Cross fired back with a suplex, but LeRae countered next and hit a senton across Nikki’s back for another near fall.
Candice tried to hit a springboard moonsault but missed Cross. Nikki hit The Purge, but LeRae kicked out. Cross and the announcers were shocked to see this, and it was mentioned that this wa the first time that Simone had kicked out of the maneuver.
Up on the top rope, they continued to fight. LeRae gets the upper hand with an avalanche German suplex, but that is not enough to end this one. Cross begins to laugh hysterically as Candice hits slaps and chops. In the corner, LeRae hits punches and slaps. She’s showing her aggression just like her husband has been doing lately.
LeRae actually got some boos from the crowd as she tried to lock Cross in the GargaNo Escape. Much like Johnny Gargano, Candice is beginning to show a bit of a dark side to herself as well. Cross was able to get her feet over to the bottom rope. Like a house of fire, LeRae was eager to continue to onslaught as soon as her opponent recovered, but Nikki caught her and hit a swinging neckbreaker to get the abrupt win.
Winner: Nikki Cross
What does this loss mean for Candice LeRae? Well she obviously must feel frustrated with both Nikki Cross and Aleister Black. Keep in mind that Johnny Gargano was also unable to get a win during Takeover this past weekend. Perhaps a tag team match with the husband and wife taking on Black and Cross could be in the works. It hopefully won’t be too long until we get to check out the next chapter in the Gargano’s already emotional year.
As is usually the case, tonight’s post-Takeover NXT mainly focused on the showcasing some highlights form the event, but next week’s show could prove to be interesting as well. NXT does not return to Full Sail Univertisty next week, but instead, a recently taped live event from California will be uploaded to the WWE Network as an episode of NXT. Details on the show remain scarce at the moment, but it will feature Keith Lee vs. Lars Sullivan in the main event. These two heavyweights will brawl next week, and it’s going to be ugly in the best possible way. I’ll see you NXT Time!

Report: Fox Wants Ronda Rousey On SmackDown in 2019

According to a report from WrestlingInc, FOX Network executives want Ronda Rousey to move to SmackDown when they take over broadcast rights for the show in 2019. The report from WrestlingInc’s Justin LaBar states that FOX feels Rousey’s MMA background, popularity and credibility as an athlete will fit more in line with the how the network wants to fit SmackDown into its block of sports programming.
According to previous reports, FOX wants WWE to focus more on sports and less on humor to fit in with and cross-promote the rest of their sports lineup such as college football, the NFL, MLB and NASCAR. It is FOX’s hope that the addition of Rousey will be a helpful tool in that sports direction FOX would like the WWE to take on the network.
UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was recently invited for a tryout to WWE as a commentator. According to reports, FOX likes Cormier and wants WWE to sign him as a commentator. Cormier had to postpone the tryout because of his title defense against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 earlier this month, but recently told Busted Open Radio that he still plans to audition.

Rousey is the current RAW Women’s Champion. While WWE usually executes brand trades shortly after WrestleMania, it will be interesting to see if they hold off until SmackDown moves to FOX in October of 2019.

WWE: Bayley suffered a shoulder injury on Raw

WWE.com posted an article last night stating that Bayley’s shoulder was injured during her match against Nia Jax on Raw this past Monday. The injury appears to be legitimate, though the severity of it isn’t currently known.

The article mentions that the official diagnosis was inconclusive due to the amount of swelling suffered following the bout. The injury seems to stem from either a spot where Jax threw Bayley out of the ring under the bottom rope and her shoulder hit on the mat hard or when Jax gave her a double chicken wing slam.

Dr. Chris Amann stated in the article that Bayley would be undergoing more diagnostic testing later this week to determine the extent of the injury once the swelling goes down.

Bayley is currently scheduled to challenge Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam on August 20th. A serious injury would put that into question, but WWE could also use the situation as part of the ongoing storyline between the two if Bayley is able to wrestle at the show.
