GFW’s Network is Live, Alberto Returning Soon, Rosemary Cleared

As promised, Global Force Wrestling has officially launched their very own 24/7 OTT streaming service. The company announced their intention to launch the Global Wrestling Network one week ago, and it briefly went live last night online. The site featured Josh Matthews confirming that the new service costs $5.99 per month, and it includes discounts on merchandise and pay-per-views, content from promotions partnered with GFW (which have yet to be added,) as well as all material from GFW/Impact Wrestling/TNA Wrestling. While the service is still “coming soon” for services such as Roku and Fire TV, the Global Wrestling Network is currently available via Android and iOS stores.
You may visit the website for the network here: GlobalWrestlingNetwork.com
Contrary to some earlier rumors, it does not look like Alberto El Patron is done with Global Force Wrestling after all. Multiple sources took part in the latest Global Force Wrestling conference call featuring Scott D’Amore, Sonjay Dutt, and John Gaburick. Alberto El Patron was suspended from GFW earlier this year due to an incident involving accused domestic violence with his girlfriend Paige at an airport in Orlando. Alberto has since been cleared from the investigation, but he remains suspended and he had the GFW title stripped from him recently. When asked about Patron’s status, Gaburick stated: “We have plans for Alberto, we’re excited that he’s gonna be coming back at Bound For Glory.” This seems to confirm that Patron will be back in time for the big pay-per-view in November.

More information came out of the conference call, and it appears that GFW roster member Rosemary has been cleared to return to the ring. Rosemary garnered a ton of attention when she was unknowingly put into a legitimate armbar by Sexy Star during AAA’s Triplemania show. Rosemary was seriously hurt by Star, but Sonjay Dutt confirmed that Rosemary has been cleared by doctors to compete again. He also stated that they do not plan on featuring the events of the aforementioned Triplemania match going forward, and he assured everyone that the relationship between AAA and GFW is still very strong.

Lesnar Wrestles on Live Event, Kane Return Update, Breezango

Brock Lesnar has one of the most luxurious schedules of any WWE Superstar on the roster. The current Universal Champion wrestles only a handful of times per year, and they are usually saved for some of WWE’s biggest events. Naturally, when Brock Lesnar makes a rare appearance at a WWE live event, it usually comes as a surprise. Brock recently appeared at a live event in Winnipeg, Canada and defeated Sheamus to retain his title. Brock Lesnar is believed to be taking time off from appearing on television once again. Though is he rumored to appear at November’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, he is not being advertised for the event as of yet.
Glenn Jacobs dominated WWE television for over a decade as the sinister Kane character, but he put his wrestling career on hold last year when he announced that he would be running for Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. He last appeared at a WWE live event in December of last year where he teamed with American Alpha to defeat The Wyatt Family. As far as a in-ring return, Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is not sure what they will be doing as far as Kane’s in-ring future. The belief is that Kane will remain employed by WWE (but not used) at least until his Mayoral campaign concludes in 2018.
One of the breakout tag teams of the year has been Fandango and Tyler Breeze’s Breezango group. The two have impressed audiences with their “Fashion Files” skits on Smackdown each week, and the likes of John Cena and Nikki Bella are even said to be behind them. While speaking to DualShockers, the team teased that they will be going after the Smackdown Tag Team Championships after The New Day and The Usos face off at Hell in a Cell. The two teams have battled each other in numerous matches, and their next match is being advertised as the final match between the teams. With the Hype Bros. splitting up soon, and with the Usos and New Day moving on, it seems that Breezango may finally get another chance to shine.

Backstage News on Match Scheduled for Raw Tour in India; Tickets

Backstage reports indicates that the Ticket prices for the upcoming Raw tour in India are expected to be really high. The speculation is that while the card is missing many big stars, WWE will try to capitalize by putting Jinder Mahal in the main event with likely Roman Reigns or possibly someone like Finn Balor.

The Young Bucks Respond to Recent Criticism from Roman Reigns

As previously reported, Roman Reigns took a shot at The Young Bucks, Nick and Matt Jackson, during a media conference call earlier this week. Reigns criticized the most decorated tag-team in wrestling today for imitating DX and using the “Too Sweet” hand gesture. The Young Bucks recently acknowledged and responded the shot that Roman Reigns took on them.
Below is what Roman Reigns said to The Young Bucks:
“No offense to any of these guys, but we don’t need guys running around doing ‘too sweets’,” Reigns said. “We don’t need guys acting like they’re DX from 20 years ago. We need original characters, guys who are [themselves]. I need Seth Rollins to be Seth Rollins. I need Kevin Owens to be Kevin Owens and I need Bray Wyatt to be Bray Wyatt. We need original superstars who have no clue what was done 15 or 20 years ago. No disrespect of our history and our past, but we’re trying to create something new here.

“That’s the most important thing, that we’re true to our characters and we’re true to our originality and where we’re trying to go forward as a product. That’s why it’s important for Braun Strowman to be the first Braun Strowman. That’s why it was important for me to tell [John] Cena that I’m not the next Cena. That’s burying me. I’m the first and only Roman Reigns. That’s all I can be, that’s all I want to be.”
Below is the response from The Young Bucks:

You expect old-timers/shock jocks to bury you, but not current, young, top-guys that you respect. Disappointing. #usVSthem
— The Young Bucks (@MattJackson13) October 10, 2017

Even if someone isn’t a fan of matt and @NickJacksonYB surely they can respect the doors these guys have opened for independent wrestlers.
— Nick Collett (@NickCollett) October 10, 2017

No clue about the beef but I’m a fan of YBs/Elite and Roman/Shield…for very different reasons. Going to see the former next Sun night.

Prominent Kosovo Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic killed in drive-by shooting

Leading Kosovo Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic was killed in a brazen drive-by shooting on Tuesday that could reignite ethnic tensions in the region.

The assassination of Ivanovic – who was facing a retrial on war crimes charges over the 1990s Kosovo conflict – occurred on the very day that Belgrade and Pristina resumed talks on normalising ties after a hiatus of more than a year.

The Serbian government official in charge of Kosovo, Marko Djuric, described the murder as a "a criminal, terrorist act against the entire Serbian people".

Ivanovic, 64, was shot dead by gunmen firing from a car as he arrived at the headquarters of his party in the flashpoint town of Mitrovica at about 8:15 am (7.15am GMT), according to police.

"I am informed that he was shot dead on the spot and efforts to revive him at Mitrovica hospital were unsuccessful," his lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic told AFP.

He said Ivanovic, a moderate politician who had been a critic of Belgrade’s policies in Kosovo, was hit by five bullets.

Police said they found a burnt-out car that was presumably used in the attack, local media reported.

Public prosecutor Shyqri Syla told AFP that investigators were at the scene, but that it was not yet known who was behind the attack.

Ethnically divided town

An EU-backed Kosovo court sentenced Ivanovic in 2015 to a nine-year jail term after it found him guilty of encouraging the killings of captured ethnic Albanian civilians in Kosovska Mitrovica in April 1999.

In February last year, a Pristina appeals court quashed the sentence and ordered a retrial for Ivanovic, who had been in detention since his arrest in January 2014 until the court’s decision.

The Social Democratic Party politician was considered a moderate in the ethnically divided town of Mitrovica. Last year he was elected a deputy on the municipal council of northern Mitrovica.

Mitrovica is a town of 85,000 people where tensions remain high between the majority ethnic Albanian residents who number about 72,000 and the 13,000-strong Serb community,

A former Serbian state secretary for Kosovo, Ivanovic was a key interlocutor with NATO, the United Nations and later the European Union after the war and was seen as backing dialogue with Kosovo’s ethnic Albanians.

Ivanovic, who graduated in both mechanics and economics, was a rare Kosovo Serb politician in that he spoke Albanian and had publicly spoken out against Belgrade’s policies in Kosovo.

‘Must be brought to justice’

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic swiftly called an emergency meeting of the Council for national security after the shooting, national broadcaster RTS reported.

"Whoever is behind this attack… whether these are Albanian, Serb or any other criminals, they have to be punished, they have to be brought to justice," Djuric said in Brussels, where he was heading the delegation due to hold talks with Kosovo Albanians on Tuesday.

However, after the assassination, the Belgrade delegation walked out of the talks, according to local media in Belgrade.

Under pressure from the international community and European Union auspices, Kosovo and Serbia have been trying to normalise ties for 20 years since the start of a bloody war that claimed 13,000 lives, mostly ethnic Albanians.

The 1998-99 war between Serbian security forces and Kosovo Albanian guerrillas was ended by a NATO air campaign.

Predominantly ethnic Albanian Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February 2008. But Belgrade has rejected the move and still considers the breakaway territory as its southern province.

About 120,000 of Kosovo’s 1.8 million inhabitants are ethnic Serbs.

Michael Phelps opens up about depression after 2012 Olympics

Michael Phelps disclosed that he has battled severe anxiety and depression for much of his life which drove him to consider suicide after his success at the 2012 Olympics.

Speaking at a mental health conference in Chicago on Tuesday, the 23-time Olympic gold medal winner talked openly about his long battle with crippling depression and is encouraging others to get help like he did.

"After every Olympics I think I fell into a major state of depression," 32-year-old Phelps said.

Phelps said he reached rock bottom following the 2012 Olympics in London where he won four gold medals and two silver. For four days he remained in his room without food or sleep.

"I didn’t want to be in the sport anymore," he said. "I didn’t want to be alive."

When he hit a low point in his depression, Phelps said, "You do contemplate suicide."

Over the past two years Phelps has opened up about his struggles. Once again, Phelps said his depression and anxiety problems have been a staple of his life for the past 17 years.

"We’re supposed to be this big, macho, physically strong human beings, but this is not a weakness," he said. "We are seeking and reaching for help."

Phelps won his first gold medal in 2004 at the Athens Olympic Games. That same year the 15-year-old from Baltimore experienced his first "depression spell".

Phelps said as he got older his depression led to his abusing drugs and alcohol.

In 2008, after winning a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Games, Phelps was photographed smoking from a bong. He has also been arrested twice for drink driving.

"It would be just me self-medicating myself, basically daily, to try to fix whatever it was that I was trying to run from," he said.

In an interview with CNN this week, Phelps said he wants to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness.

"[Mental illness] has a stigma around it and that’s something we still deal with every day," said Phelps. "I think people actually finally understand it is real. People are talking about it and I think this is the only way that it can change."

Phelps retired after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio as the most decorated Olympian of all-time, winning 28 Olympics medals.

Kabul hotel attack death toll almost doubles

At least 40 people were killed in the attack on Kabul’s luxury Intercontinental Hotel at the weekend, official figures showed Thursday – almost double the earlier toll released by Afghan authorities.

"The final death toll (among Afghans) from Intercontinental Hotel attack stands at 25," health ministry spokesman Wahid Majrooh told AFP.

"We don’t know about the foreign fatalities," he said, adding 12 Afghans had been wounded.

With 15 foreigners already confirmed dead in the Taliban-claimed assault that began late Saturday, that takes the total death toll to 40.

Afghan officials had previously said 22 people were killed in the massacre, the majority of them foreigners.

Investigators are still looking into how the militants were able to get past privately-owned Kabul Balkh Safety & Security guards and launch the assault with guns and grenades.

Visitors to the upmarket hotel, which sits on a hilltop overlooking the Afghan capital, have described glaring security breaches before the assailants went on a bloody rampage targeting guests.

Bags were not checked, scanners did not work and body searches were non-existent, according to witnesses.

During the terrifying 12-hour ordeal insurgents armed with Kalashnikovs and suicide vests went from room to room searching for foreigners, survivors and a security source have told AFP.

Among the foreigners killed were seven Ukrainians, four Americans, two Venezuelans, one Kazakh and a German.

"The United States strongly condemns the attack on January 20 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul," US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Wednesday, announcing the US toll.

Two US citizens were also wounded, Nauert added.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and wish for the speedy recovery of those wounded," she said.

"Out of respect for the families of the deceased, we have no further comment."

The Ukrainians and Venezuelans killed in the attack had worked for Afghan airline Kam Air, whose chief executive Samad Osman Samadi on Wednesday described their deaths as "a disaster for us".

"It will take us a while to recover because we lost our professional crew. We also used their experience to train our Afghan pilots," Samadi said at a sombre ceremony at Kabul airport where the remains of the Ukrainian employees were loaded onto a plane to be repatriated.

At least 40 Kam Air employees were at the Intercontinental, which is not part of the global InterContinental chain, when the gunmen began slaughtering guests.
