Figure Four Weekly 3/7/2016: Understanding Gawker's defense in the Hogan lawsuit

The day this issue hits the website (March 7th, 2016), the trial in Hulk Hogan’s civil lawsuit against Gawker kicks off with opening arguments in Pinellas County Court in St. Petersburg, Florida. To a person, the one aspect of the case that it seems like everyone has had the hardest time wrapping their heads around is Gawker’s defense. What it comes down to is that Gawker is saying that the video of Hogan and Heather Cole having sex was a matter of “public concern” because Hogan had not only made his sex life and sexuality a major part of his public persona, but had denied having sex with Cole. Usually, everyone hearing this just laughs it off. Hell, when the case was being outlined to the potential jurors last week, there was audible scoffing in the courtroom when Gawker’s defense was explained.

Pepsi bottling plant in Mexico shut over gang threats as 112th politician shot dead ahead of election

A company that distributes soft drinks for PepsiCo has said it is closing operations in a region of southern Mexico because of drug gang threats.

The closure of the Grupo Gepp plant in the city of Ciudad Altamirano comes amid an intensification of Mexico’s already raging security crisis that has included a rash of assassinations of politicians ahead of general elections on July 1st.

The 112th such murder since September, according to the Etellekt risk analysis consultancy, took place last Friday in the northern city of Piedras Negras.

A gunman shot Fernando Purón at point blank range from behind as he posed for a selfie with a supporter, just after a debate with rival congressional candidates.

The violence has been particularly bad in the southern state of Guerrero, which includes the city of Ciudad Altamirano where the closure of the Pepsi distribution plant comes less than three months after Coca-Cola Femsa also shut its plant there for similar reasons.

The city lies at the heart of the Tierra Caliente, or ‘Hot Land’ region, which is home to several small but heavily armed and violent gangs that formed after high-profile arrests of drug barons triggered the fragmentation of their cartels.

These groups traffic heroin paste made from the sap of the opium poppies grown in local mountains to feed the epidemic of opioid addiction in the United States.

They have long terrorized small businesses with demands for protection money, but had previously tended to leave big companies alone.

Roberto Alvarez, spokesman for the joint federal and state level security operations in Guerrero, said this has changed because of a dramatic drop in the price of heroin as the use of the synthetic opioid fentanyl grows.

“A year ago gangs were paying local poppy farmers about 20,000 or 25,000 pesos (£1,000) for every kilo of opium paste. Now they are paying just 5,000 pesos (£200),” he told The Telegraph. “They are looking for other sources of income.”

Mr Alvarez said that the government believes the Pepsi distribution plant was targeted after it was left with the entire market because of the closure of Coca-Cola operations.

“That seems to have awoken the interest of the criminal gangs in the area,” he said. “When they start going after big companies as well as small, it shows how serious the situation has become.”

How Canada is following a softening of cannabis laws across the world

Canada voted to legalise the recreational use of cannabis, coming good on a manifesto promise from 2015 and becoming just the second country in the world to do so.

But cannabis laws across the world are changing, with many countries decriminalising or legalising possession, sale and cultivation in recent years.

In countries where the drug is fully legal it is heavily regulated and taxed. Other countries like the Netherlands take a more tolerant approach, choosing to not prosecute rather than to legalise.

USA

Cannabis legalisation for medical and recreational uses is increasing across the country, albeit at a state level. It is still illegal under federal law.

California was the first state to legalise cannabis for medical use in 1996, and Washington and Colorado hold the joint title for being the first states to fully legalise the drug for sale to adults in 2012.

Currently there are nine states, including Washington DC, where it is legal for adult use. 29 states allow the drug to be sold for medical use and as taxation of the industry brings extra spending money, more states are expected to follow suit in legalising or at least decriminalising the drug.

Uruguay

In 2014 Uruguay became the first country in the world to fully legalise the use drug for recreational purposes. The country’s already liberal laws permitting consumption were relaxed to allow citizens to possess the drug and cultivate plants at home or in growing clubs.

MIGUEL ROJO/ AFP

The legislation was voted through by the senate in 2013 and it was enacted in 2014. Following concerns about the practicalities of the new legislation, regulated sale of the drug was finally allowed in 2017.

Citizens can now register with the government to buy the drug from state licensed pharmacies.

Netherlands

Famous for its ‘tolerance’ of the drug, Holland has never actually legalised cannabis, but rather allows police to overlook its sale, cultivation and use in coffee shops.

Police will also not prosecute people for possessing up to 5g of the drug or cultivating up to five plants, despite possession and cultivation still being illegal.

In 2013 legislation was passed which essentially turned coffee shops into clubs with a maximum of 2,000 members in order to counter drug tourism. However in 2014 it was mainly abandoned as a policy and municipalities now decide on whether foreigners can enter coffee shops.

Cannabis | Top producers

Jamaica

Jamaica is the only country in the world to legalise cannabis for religious purposes. Marijuana is a key part of rastafarian culture and it plays an important role in religious ceremonies. But it was only in 2015 that the Caribbean island decriminalised possession of the drug with a discretionary fine of $5 for up to 56 grams per person.

Cultivation of the plants was allowed but limited to a maximum of five. The new legislation allowed the use of the drug for the intentionally ambiguous ‘therapeutic’ and ‘medical’ purposes to allow tourists to use it and develop a legal, medical marijuana industry.

Spain

In Spain, the drug can be bought by members of not-for profit cannabis clubs, where the drug is grown. A legal loophole allows the consumption of the drug in private spaces.

The first cannabis club opened its doors in 1991 and now there are over 500 across the country. Barcelona, capital of the autonomous region of Catalonia, has the highest concentration of cannabis clubs as the region’s government voted to legalise and regulate the production and possession of cannabis in clubs in 2017.

These new laws are considered to be some of the most liberal in Europe.

Morocco

Sale and consumption of the drug is illegal in Morocco, the world’s second largest producer of hashish (a brown resin that is produced from marijuana plants).

FADEL SENNA/AFP

In 2014 a bill was tabled to legalise the production of the drug for medical and industrial purposes, but it fell through.

Click Here: cheap sydney roosters jersey

Although conservative and religious groups still strongly oppose legalisation, the drug is broadly available. Foreign tourists flock to picturesque mountain villages where hashish is produced and the police do not generally interfere with the industry.

Cambodia

The cultivation and consumption of marijuana is a historical part of Khmer (Cambodian) cuisine where the leaf is sprinkled as a herb over food.

Police will turn a blind eye to locals growing it in their gardens and fields. Restaurants in tourist areas sell ‘happy’ pizza and other dishes made with the drug as Cambodia becomes more popular as a tourist destination.

But there have been crackdowns and a spate of large scale drug busts in the past couple of years. Nonetheless, use and sale of the drug is commonplace.

Portugal

After Portugal decriminalised possession and personal use of all drugs in 2001, the country has seen a nationwide reduction in HIV infections, drug related deaths and prison populations.

Drug abuse is now seen as a medical condition and not a criminal act. If people are found with more than 10 days supply of marijuana, they are referred to medical services for support, rather than being arrested.

Production and trafficking of marijuana are still criminal offences that can carry sentences of up to 12 years.

Countries with strict laws

Indonesia

Indonesia made headlines in 2015 when nine foreigners were sentenced to life or executed for trafficking heroin.

Sentences are heavy for possession of marijuana too. In 2005, Schapelle Corby an Australian national, was sentenced to nine years in prison for trafficking just over 4kg of the drug.

Possession of small quantities is equally tough. Enough cannabis to make a joint can result in a four-year prison sentence.

Japan

Consumption of cannabis is viewed as a serious crime in Japan. Under the ‘cannabis control law’ dating back to 1948, citizens face a minimum of five years in prison as well as hard labour for possession of the small amounts.

Foreigners normally face immediate deportation, but in 1980 Sir Paul Macartney was imprisoned for nine days before being sent home for possessing 200g of marijuana.

French butchers issue plea for police protection from vegans after spate of attacks

French butchers have issued a plea for police protection against vegans, whom they blame for a series of attacks designed to “spread terror” among meat-lovers.

The butchers say they are coming under “physical, verbal and moral" attack from vegans and animal rights groups in the land of the “steak frites”, and warn that animosity against their profession is being fuelled by heavy media exposure to the anti-meat cause.

They are asking for the interior minister, Gérard Collomb, to intervene.

Their request comes days after a rotisserie in Lille, northern France, was vandalised – the fourth such incident of its kind in a matter of weeks. In the Hauts-de-France of northern France, seven butchers and charcuteries were attacked and sprayed with false blood in April.

Several other similar incidents were reported in the southwestern Occitanie region, they said.

In a letter to the minister, Jean-François Guihard, president of the French federation of butchers and caterers said: “We are counting on your services and on the support of the entire government to stop as swiftly possible” such attacks.

The 18,000 butchers of France were “worried about media overexposure of the vegan way of life”, said the federation chief.

Butchers were “shocked” by a section of society that “wishes to impose its way of life, not to mention its ideology, on the vast majority” of meat-eating French people, he added.

The meat lobby in France is powerfulCredit:
 JOEL SAGET/AFP

Besides the rotisserie, animal welfare activists also targeted a butcher, a fishmonger and a restaurant selling meat dishes in Lille in May.

Each time they smashed windows and scrawled the words “No to speciesism” on the shopfront. Popular with animal rights advocates, the term “speciesism” suggests that mistreating non-human species is a form of discrimination akin to racism or sexism.

Martine Aubry, the mayor of Lille, has said the town hall intends to file a legal complain against persons unknown.

With only around three per cent of the population vegetarian or vegan in France, the notion of dropping meat from the menu has been slow to catch on and even frowned upon in a country proud of its boeuf bourguignon and foie gras.

But French butchers have hit the headlines in recent months following a spate of hard-hitting reportages in abattoirs and battery farms – several by the animal welfare group L214 –  revealing the apparently inhumane conditions in which animals are being kept and killed.

The butchers’ federation pointed out that late March, a vegan activist had even hailed the murder of a butcher in a supermarket in Trèbes, near Carcassonne by an Islamist terrorist.

The activist posted a Facebook message saying she had no qualms over the killing of butcher Christian Medvès, one of four people killed by gunman Radouane Lakdim on 23 March. "So does it shock you that a murderer gets killed by a terrorist? Not me, I have zero compassion for him, there is justice in it," she wrote.

The activist later received a seven-month suspended prison sentence for “condoning terrorism”.

“Faced with this escalation of violence, what will be the next stage?,” asked the federation.

The French butchers’ plea for help comes a month after Britain’s Countryside Alliance warned that attacks on small businesses by vegan activists were on the rise.

Death threats, stoked by social media and encouraged by international groups of activists, have caused butchers and farmers to "live in fear," they warned.

French farmers and butchers have been fighting of late to improve the image of the meat industry.

In April, the French parliament passed a law making it illegal for vegetarian food producers to use “steak”, “merguez”, “bacon” or “sausage” – or any other meat-related expression – to describe food that is not partly or wholly composed of meat.

Even vegetarian products promising to have a “bacon taste” will be out of bounds. In what was seen as a victory for France’s powerful meat lobby, MPs vote the change on the grounds that customers were being misled.

Afghan government resumes Taliban offensive after ceasefire ends

Afghan security forces resumed offensive operations on Saturday after President Ashraf Ghani declared an end to the government’s unilateral ceasefire with the Taliban.

Mr Ghani said the ceasefire, which lasted 18 days after it was extended once and overlapped with the Taliban’s unilateral three-day truce for Eid, had been "98 percent successful".

"The ceasefire is over. The Afghan security and defence forces are allowed to restart their military operations," Mr Ghani told reporters.

The three days of no fighting were unprecedented in the nearly 17-year conflict and triggered jubilant scenes across the war-weary country.

Taliban fighters and security forces spontaneously celebrated the holiday that caps the holy month of Ramadan, hugging each other and taking selfies.

The militants were also mobbed by relieved civilians, who have borne the brunt of the war, raising hopes of a renewed push for peace talks.

Mr Ghani said the ceasefire had shown that the majority of the insurgents wanted peace and it was the "Taliban’s turn to give a positive response".

"I am ready to extend the ceasefire anytime when the Taliban are ready," he said at a press conference.

But the sight of its fighters openly mingling with security forces and civilians over Eid appeared to alarm the Taliban’s leaders, who on Sunday ordered their men back to their posts.

The Taliban vowed Tuesday to continue their bloody fight against the government and their foreign backers, brushing aside rising civilian casualties.

The insurgents returned to the battlefield last week after refusing a government request to extend their ceasefire, launching attacks across the country that have seen scores killed or injured.

The renewed violence has poured cold water on hopes the truce would provide a clear path to peace talks, with the Taliban refusing to bow to pressure to lay down their arms until foreign forces withdraw from Afghanistan.

The truces did not extend to the Islamic State group, which has a relatively small but potent presence in Afghanistan, and launched two deadly attacks on ceasefire revellers during Eid.

WWE WrestleMania 32 live results: HHH vs Roman Reigns, Undertaker vs Shane McMahon

WWE’s biggest event of the year, WWE Wrestlemania 32 is finally here emanating from AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.  With a year full of injures and story changes predicting how everything will all come down is a bit of a mystery. What is known is that all the wrestlers involved will be looking to prove themselves during a weekend with some of the most exceptional cards in recent memory.

It will be a massive show, with around six hours of action between the two pre-shows and the four hour-long main card. Beyond the matches, Fifth Harmony is set to perform “America the Beautiful” and we’ll get an intermission/half time show alongside a hall of fame inductees appearance on-stage and something involving Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, and Shawn Michaels.

U.S. Champion Kalisto vs. Ryback

Kalisto scored the pin with a drop toe hold into the exposed turnbuckle and then the Salida del Sol  Ryback took most of the match doing power spots.  It felt more like a dark match,  It was a basic match.  Kalisto didn’t do any dives and Ryback did mostly basic power stuff in a slower paced match.  Everything they did was fine.  The stadium was pretty empty because there were problems getting people into the building.

– They are very clearly announcing a number bigger than 100,000 as Renee Young used “more than 100,000” in the intro.

The Total Divas (Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox and Eva Marie) vs. B.A.D. & Blonde (Lana, Summer Rae, Naomi, Emma and Tamina)

Team Total Divas won when Brie used the Yes lock on Naomi.  After the match, Nikki Bella came out to celebrate with Team Total Divas.  She was still wearing a neck brace.  They teased Brie losing when Lana shoved her off the top rope and she caught her neck.  Match was fine.  All the women traded finishes.  They did a long commercial break in the middle of the match.  The crowed booed Eva Marie a lot but she did one move, the sliced bread, and that was really it.  Lana didn’t do much but kicks but she has goog presence in the ring.  People reacted when she tagged in.  It wasn’t rushed at all.

– The place is filling up now. Mauro Ranallo used “more than 100,000” multiple times so it’s a lock now.

– Lita is doing an interview. She talked about about women of the past, only mentioning the women in the WWE Hall of Fame, they are the only ones who paved the way in history.  Lita talked about the women’s match later in the show. Banks and Lynch both got pretty equal reactions and Charlotte was cheered.  She said they are so much more than Divas, they are superstars.  The showed the new belt and said the winner becomes the first ever WWE women’s championship. I know it was called the women’s title for decades historically but it’s the first one ever now. Ranallo talked about Ronda Rousey.

Click Here: cheap parramatta eels jersey
The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) vs. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley)

Short match ending when Jey pinned Devon with a superkick. It sounded like the crowd was more into the Dudleys and booed the Usos.  After the match the Dudleys went to get the tables with the announcers calling them hypocrites.  However when they went for the double team power bomb, the Usos reversed, and both delivered superkicks.  Jey put Devon through a table and Jimmy did it to Bubba both with splashes off the top rope.

– I’m guessing we’ll have a 13,000 to 15,000 exaggeration of the real number.

The main show is officially about to kick off.

Ladder Match: Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens vs. The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sami Zayn vs. Sin Cara vs. Stardust

Zack Ryder shoved Miz off the ladder and celebrated with his father in the ring.  Nice story here of giving a guy the title to someone they had beaten into the ground, espeically sihnce Ryder wasn’t even originally scheduled for the match.  This was an excellent match.  Zayn and Owens were the stars with Zayn giving Owens a half nelson German suplex onto a ladder.  Owens sold it like he was dead and never got up.  So many super spots here.  Zayn did a dive through a set up ladder onto several guys on the floor and then went from the floor with his dive through the ropes into the ring and out into the tornado DDT on the floor.

Sin Cara was knocked off the top of the ladder by Owens into a splash on Stardust on a ladder bridge with the ladder breaking.  Ziggler did an elbow off the near top of the ladder on Miz.  Zayn knocked Sin Cara off the ladder and he springboarded off the top rope with a flip dive onto everyone.  Those were just some of the many highlights.

A.J. Styles vs. Chris Jericho

Jericho won the match with the codebreaker after he shoved the ref in the way and Styles had to redirect his springboard forearm and got caught.  Sryles got near falls with the Styles clash and later the springboard 450, and then went for the phenomenal forearm and Jericho caught him withthe codebreaker.  It was rough in spots as they were doing so many counters out of usual spots.  They made it the theme of the match.  The near falls got over and Jericho does a great job with selling near submissions. Very good.

– Maria Menounos interviweed Zack Ryder who said all he wanted to do was hear his music at WrestleMania and this was the greatest moment of his life.

WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day vs. League of Nations – Non-Title

The New Day came out in new outfits with a giant cereal box thaw as tipped over and giant cereal kernels came out.  Crowd was super hot the for the New Day.  This ended up being a three-on-three as Barrett didn’t wrestle.  The finish saw Barrett from the outisde hit the bull hammer on Woods and then Sheamus pinned him with the Brogue kick.  The match was okay, they kept it moving but they were just there to set the stage for the post-match.

And Then…

The win by the League was to set up the run-in, plus it also keeps the League in the tag title picture I guess.  Shawn Michaels was out first.  Michaels was in good shape.  Mick Foley then came out.  Steve Austin was next out.  Austin got easily the biggest pop so far.  They came to the ring. Crowd was on fire for this segment.  New Day pulled Barrett to the floor.  So it was three on three. Foley was pounding on Sheamus. Austin was putting the boots to Rusev. Foley plled out the socko on Sheamus. Michaels superkicked Del Rio. Austin gave Rusev the stunner.  Rusev took it great.  Then Barrett came in and took the superkick, the socko claw and the stunner. Austin danced with Woods and then gave Woods the stunner. This got by far the biggest reaction of the show when Austin was celebrating with the beer.

Street Fight: Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose

Good match.  The story of the match was Lesnar continually threw German suplexes and Ambrose would get weapons and nail Lesnar with them. He used a kendo stick for a while, a fire extinguisher, tons of chairs.  Ambrose DDT’d Lesnar on the chair for a good near fall.  The finish was Lesnar ducking a shot with the barbed wire bat and then used an F-5 on the chair.  Clean win, more than you’d think.  Ambrose did a great job and he was launched with one of the 13 or so suplexes, mostly German suplexes, a belly to belly on the floor and a belly to belly superplex.  The one thing is that it never felt like Ambrose could win the way it was booked, and he didn’t win.  The big news was no Wyatts at all here.

– Ric Flair was with Zack Ryder trying to teach him to say Whoo the right way.  It was actually a Snickers commercial and when Ryder ate the snickers bar he turned into Charlotte who did Whoo the right way.

– Now it’s the Hall of Fame segment.  Howard Finkel did the intros.  Big Bossman, like last night, was represented by his three daughters. Sting got a big entrance with a video and pointed to everyone.

Divas Champion Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks

They are positioning this strong with a nice video package to build the match after showing the Lita segment once again.  They are giving them every shot with the positioning and following the Hall of Fame segment instead of a killer match.  Sasha Banks came out with Snoop Dogg and his group singing her entrance.  Sasha wore gear in tribute to Eddy Guerrero.  Charlotte came out with a robe made from the Ric Flair robe in his match in Orlando against Shawn Michaels.

Very good match here.  They went 16:00 and did spot afer spot, at times it seemed like they did too much too fast.  They tried to make it the beginning of a new era.  Charlotte retained with the figure eight on Lynch as Ric Flair kept Banks from breaking it up.  Lots of really great stuff here.  Charlotte did a moonsault off the top to the floor on both which popped the crowd big.  Banks did a tope with a last second flip that was amazing body control.  All kinds of pins and submissions with the third person breaking it up.  The crowd did big “Yes” chants when Lynch nailed Ric Flair with a tope.

This did feel like one of the NXT women’s title matches, not the best NXT women’s title match but felt like one of the better ones.

– There is 90 minutes left for three matches and the Rock segment.

Hell In A Cell – Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon – Wrestlemania Career vs. RAW Control

Undertaker won a 30:00 match with a tombstone piledriver after Shane McMahon came off the top of the cell with an elbow drop through a table and Undertaker moved.  The table was gimmicke dbut ti was still a legit 15 or more feet from the top.  A lot of the match wasn;t good but the move made it memorable.  McMahon also did a coast to coast dropkick using the chair.  Shane was selling the injuries at the end big. He went out on a stretcher.  The table was gimmicked that he landed on but still that was a crazy fall.  Before that Shane had the choke on him while on a platform and Undertaker while choked jumped off and they both crashed through the table.  Shane kept hitting Undertaker with monitors and a tool box to lay him out before the big spot.

The match was slow paced but they set it up well.  It really wasn’t good when they were in the cell, but Shane used bolt cutters to loosen the side of the cage and then Undertaker tackled him and the side of the cage collapsed.  Shane also escaped the Hell’s Gate and turned it into a sharpshooter.  He used a triangle on Undertaker.  It was hard at times to buy Shane’s offense on Taker in spots but in the end the big stunts made the match.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Baron Corbin won, throwing out Kane as Kane was throwing out Bo Dallas and Darren Young.  Your typical Battle Royal except the big pop for Shaquile O’Neal making his debut.  They had Show and O’Neal playing monsters throwing Sandow and Fandango out before everyone threw both out.  Shaq looked like a monster even next to Show.  Tatanka and DDP were the surprises.  DDP gave Viktor the diamond cutter and threw him out.  Konnor threw out Page.  Tatanka was really heavy but the crowd liked and booed when he was out.  Corbin threw Tatanka out.  The rest were the roster guys not on the show.  At least they used the Battle Royal to make a new star, but of all the guys in NXT to put over strong right now, he’s not the one I’d have picked.

– They had the Cowboys cheerleaders out for a dance.

The Rock Returns

The Rock came out with a giant flamethrower.  He blew it and lit up a giant Rock stage setting.  Rock showed his biceps to one of hte cheerleaders as he went to the ring.  His music played a long time before he started talking.  Then he paused for a long time.  Finally the Rock came back to Dallas.  He put over the cheerleaders.  He said the people are so happy they’re going home and they’re going to make babies tonight so nine months there will be a lot of Rock babies.   The crowd sang along with him.  He announced records are made to be broken.  He announced the crowd was a new record.  The graphic said 101,763 a new WrestleMania record.  The record itself is legit even if the number isn’t.  His music then played.

He was about to do an interview when the Wyatts came out.  Wyatt started talking and introduced himself to Rock.  They all got on the apron.  Wyatt said I chose you because you represent success, you represent greatness, you represent a lie.  This is not your moment.  This is my moment.  I’m going to eviscerate you on the grandest stage of them all.  Rock started talking and made fun of them.  Said to Rowan, clearly your parents are related.  Said Strowman looks like he’s been breast fad until he was 26 years old.

Rock told Bray that he’s got the ability and the charisma so this segment is to put Wyatt over. Said he’s revolutionary and a leader.  Rock made some junks about the eater of words or the eater of hot pockets.  Wyatt said you have no idea who you are fooling with.  Rock took off his shirt.  Rock wanted a match.  He challenged Wyatt or the duck dynasty bitches.  He had his trunks underneath.  The crowd went crazy.  They rang the bell and Rock used a Rock bottom and pinned Rowan in seven seconds.

They all surrounded him when John Cena came out.  They bounced them around.  Rock used a  Rock bottom on Strowman.  Cena supelxed and gave Rowan a five knuckle shuffle. Attitude Adjustment on Rowan.  Rock used a spinebuster and people’s elbow on Wyatt.

WWE Champion HHH vs. Roman Reigns

Long match ending with  Reigns using two Superman punches and then ducked a sledge hammer spot and hit a spear for the pin.  They did a big celebration like you had  face winner even though the crowd wasn’t cheering him although they didn’t boo him as bad at the finish as they did in most of the match.  There was no hint of a turn at the end of the match although early in the match Reigns, with his new outfit, kind of felt heelish.  It was a good match, but not great.  HHH did a lot more wrestling than usual using submission moves like a Fujiwara armbar and armbar to set up a one arm power bomb spot by Reigns.

At times the crowd was cheering for Sami Zayn, Nakamura and Bayley.  Reigns used a spear on him through the barricade for one big spot.  Stephanie was at ringside in an outfit like she was a backup singer in an 80s band.  Reigns hit the spear the first time but  Stephanie pulled the ref out of the ring.  Stephanie got in the ring to argue with the ref.  Reigns went to spear HHH, who moved and nailed Stephanie good.  HHH hit the pedigree but Reigns kicked out. Stephanie sold it on the floor but handed him the sledge hammer but Reigns used the Superman punches before the ducking the sledge hammer spot and hitting the spear for the pin.

We’ll have a lot more later tonight on Wrestling Observer Radio when we do our audio show with Bryan (live) and myself from the WWE Network version.

ROH signs TV deal with Canada's Fight Network

On Monday, Ring of Honor and The Fight Network announced a new deal that would give ROH weekly exposure throughout Canada.

The Canadian based combat sports network will begin airing ROH starting on Tuesday, April 26 at 11 PM EST with repeat showings throughout the week. ROH will be part of a Tuesday night wrestling block with TNA Impact at 9 PM EST, ROH at 11 PM EST, and AAA at midnight EST.

The Fight Network is carried nationally on all major cable, satellite and telecom systems in Canada.

The shows will air before they go up on the ROH website on Thursdays, but after they debut during the weekend on U.S.-based Sinclair affiliates, some of which
are picked up in Canada, most notably the Buffalo station that is carried in Ontario.

The deal gives ROH television penetration in other key Canadian markets that they previously didn’t have broadcast access in.

“Ring of Honor has long been touted as a worldwide leader in professional wrestling and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to finally bring a weekly series to Canadian fans,” said Chad Midgley, VP of The Fight Network.  “Over the past decade, ROH has staged plenty of five-star matches that will go down in history as some of the best. Its focus on in-ring quality, attention to detail and talent development is outstanding, making it the perfect fit for our stacked professional wrestling block on Tuesday nights.”

Hamas ‘created dating apps and fake Facebook profiles to try to lure Israeli soldiers’

Hamas built a functioning World Cup app and several dating apps to lure Israeli soldiers into giving up classified material, the Israeli military said Tuesday.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said operatives from the Islamist militant group created fake Facebook profiles where they pretended to be attractive young Israelis.

The Hamas operatives then used the Facebook profiles to contact Israeli soldiers – writing in slang Hebrew and punctuating their messages with emojis – and tried to convince them to download the mobile apps, the IDF said.

One app, called Gold Cup, was a World Cup app which Hamas updated with the latest football scores and statistics. “It actually was a very good one,” a senior IDF officer said.

A dating app called “GlanceLove” advertised itself as “the best choice for new lovers who care about their privacy and safety”. Another was branded "WinkChat".

Once downloaded, the apps would allow Hamas to access all data stored on the phone and to turn the mobile into a recording device for their own purposes.

The Israeli military said fewer than 100 soldiers fell for the Hamas trap by downloading the apps. In a briefing with reporters, an officer said military security had not been compromised by the downloads.

“Such activity had the potential to inflict damage to the IDF’s information security but no damage has been done,” the officer said.

The IDF’s counter-espionage operation was known “Operation Brokenheart” after one of the Hamas operatives used a brokenhearted emoji in a conversation with a soldier.

A Hamas spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Hamas has been experimenting with social media traps for Israeli soldiers since 2016 and the IDF has previously revealed attempts to contact soldiers over Facebook.

In the group’s latest effort, they once again began their outreach on Facebook. Hamas operatives created profiles that they built up using stolen photographs of and gave their profiles Israeli names, the IDF said.

The fake profiles would comment on each other’s photographs and “like” each other’s posts to give the appearance of being real.

They created both male and female accounts to try to make contact with troops from Israel’s mixed gender military.

The IDF would not say exactly how many soldiers had been contacted over Facebook only that it was in the “hundreds”.

Many of the soldiers became suspicious after being added by the strangers on Facebook and contacted their superiors. The IDF said it first learned of the infiltration attempt after troops raised the alarm and had been monitoring the Hamas operation for several months.

Over the course of the Facebook conversations, the Hamas operatives would try to move the conversation to Whatsapp, the popular messaging service. Hamas used Israeli phone numbers on their Whatsapp accounts to make them seem convincing, the IDF said.

The operatives would then try to convince the soldiers to download the different dating apps or the World Cup app. The apps would allow Hamas to take over the soldiers’ phones, using it to take pictures and mining it for information.

“Whatever you can do with your phone, the malicious software can do,” the officer said.

The apps appeared to have been built by using standard commercial software, the IDF said, making them functional but not highly sophisticated.

Each of the three apps was downloaded roughly 400 times, the military said, although not all the downloads were necessarily by Israeli soldiers.

The apps appeared on Google Play, an app store that appears on Android devices. The apps have since been taken down. The IDF refused to say if it had coordinated with Google to have the apps removed.

A spokesman for Google said the company was looking into the reports.

The military would not say if Hamas’ cyber espionage operation was being from Gaza, which it controls, or was the work of Hamas supporters elsewhere. The operatives involved appeared to speak convincing Hebrew and English.

The IDF has subsequently tightened its guidelines for troops on cybersecurity. The military has also begun running tests against its own soldiers, contacting them online from fake profiles and trying to convince them to download an app.

The military said only five per cent of its troops engaged with the fake profiles and only two per cent clicked the button to download the apps. Once they did, they received a message informing them they had fallen for the trap.

“This time it was us, next time it could be someone else,” the message read.
