'50-Style Quarantine Video Spoof Adds Levity To Trying Times

TAMPA, FL —With the stay-at-home orders hampering her usual busy spring season of listing and showing homes for sale, Tampa Realtor Brenda Christian decided to use her down time to bring some comic relief to her clients.

With the help of some friends, Christian produced a 1950s-style video that takes a comical view of the coronavirus quarantine.

“We are being inundated with news story after news story about the coronavirus, and all of it is so draining,” said Christian, a real estate agent for eXp Realty and myhistorictampa.com. “This is such a difficult time. We’ve got to have some levity.”

Travis Cossel, who runs Black Label Films in Miami, has been staying in Tampa with his girlfriend, real estate photographer Amy Kellison of HD Showings, during the stay-at home orders.

He approached Christian about collaborating on the video.

“He and Amy started brainstorming and came up with the theme of a 1950s nuclear bomb shelter,” said Christian. “He sent me the idea, and I thought it was fantastic.”

Cossel based the video on the “Fallout” video game, which spoofs an American nuclear apocalypse.

Cossel turned to event planner Mylez Edward to play the role of “Bob” in the video. He previously did a promotional video for Edward’s company, Creations by Mylez Edward, and thought Edward would be perfect for the part.

Then the search began for a home to use as a film set.

“We were looking for a home that had a pool with a ’50s flair,” said Christian. Fellow real estate agent Kara Atkinson happened to have a listing for a mid-century home at 4806 N. Highland Ave. in Seminole Heights that fit the bill. “It was perfect and Karen was so gracious to let us use it.”

The video shows the character, Bill, in a full hazmat suit happily going about his daily activities — cooking at the grill, lounging by the pool, baking cookies and showering.

Cossel said the 55-second video took about eight hours to film.

“We did all the filming practicing social distancing and wearing masks and gloves,” said Christian. “We had a blast doing it and it turned out amazing. We’ve gotten a great response. I’ve had nothing but positive comments.”

Christian, who’s been selling homes for 20 years, is continuing to list and sell homes during the coronavirus pandemic. But, instead of face-to-face contact with buyers, she takes advantage of FaceTime technology to show homes.

“We can go into a home and do tours for people while they watch from the safety of their homes,” she said. “We can show them everything just as if they were there. If they want to look in cupboards, we open the cupboards for them.

“It’s actually a great time to buy a home. The rates are very, very low, and people staying at home have to time to go online and look at houses,” she said.

She’s said she’s gotten quite a few inquiries from apartment dwellers seeking more distance from their neighbors as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although the video is intended to bring a smile to faces during a trying time, Christian said she’s well aware of the toll the pandemic has had on Tampa Bay businesses and families.

On Thursdays, Christian volunteers at the food pantry at the Lake Carroll campus of the Mission Hill Church, run by friends Lynn and Gary McNeal.

“It keeps it real for me,” said Christian. “A lot of families come through who are parents of elementary-age children, and they have nothing. It’s heartbreaking.”

Coronavirus: Entire State Of NC Ordered To 'Stay At Home'

NORTH CAROLINA — All of North Carolina is being ordered to “stay at home” in order to slow the spread of the new coronavirus, Gov. Roy Cooper said Friday afternoon. The order is set to go into effect at 5 p.m. Monday.

“It is what we have to do to save lives,” Cooper said at a news conference. “It has the force of law.”

The order is mandatory, and valid for 30 days through April 29, but could be revised or extended.

The number of COVID-19 cases in North Carolina rose sharply overnight and is now present in at least 61 counties, according to state public health officials. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is widespread transmission of COVID-19 throughout the state.

As of shortly before noon Friday, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported at least 763 cases and three deaths reported in North Carolina. The majority of COVID-19 cases — 47 percent — have affected patients between 25 and 49 years of age, the agency said.

But the statewide case count rose again sharply by early Friday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins University, which reported at least 832 cases in North Carolina.

Cooper had declared a state of emergency for the entire state March 10. Public schools throughout the state have been ordered closed through at least May 15. In addition, Cooper had ordered a statewide ban on gatherings of more than 50 people and all dine-in service at restaurants and bars.

What The Order Means
The statewide order means residents are directed to stay in their homes unless they need to leave for essential activities, such as for jobs, food, medicine, outdoor exercise or to help others, Cooper said.

The order also bans gatherings of more than 10 people, and its directs residents stay at least 6 feet from each other. Essential services will be allowed to remain open, he said.

“These are tough directives, but I need you to take them seriously,” Cooper said.

In a bid to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, municipalities around the state have already issued stay-at-home orders. One such order issued this week for all of Mecklenburg County, for example, is to be in place until April 16, and will be enforced by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

“In cases where a local order and the state order differ, the more restrictive requirement will apply,” said Mike Sprayberry, director of North Carolina Emergency Management. “I want to stress that businesses that are allowed to remain open under the executive order will not need to have any extra credential or permit to continue operations.”

This order permits the following businesses to remain open, NC DHHS said:

McLaren’s Seidl opposes giving No.1 status to Ricciardo

New recruit Daniel Riccardo will not be McLaren’s number 1 driver next season, at least as long as Andreas Seidl is in charge.

Ricciardo will move from Renault to the Woking-based outfit at the end of the season, replacing Ferrari-bound Carlos Sainz alongside Lando Norris.

Despite the Aussie’s 171-race track record and 7 wins, Ricciardo will not be given a preferred status over Norris by Seidl.

Domenicali calls on Alonso to help Sainz move to Ferrari

“As long as I’m the team boss, no one at the start of the season will ever be the number one,” the McLaren F1 boss told Sky F1.

“If someone has as long a road to go as we do, you need two drivers equal to each other, as we had in 2019 with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

“With Lando and Daniel we have another great duo. Not only sporty but also when it comes to presenting McLaren as a brand.”

Given Ricciardo and Norris’ respective lighthearted personality, the pair’s relationship stands a strong chance of mirroring the collusive and jocular bond enjoyed by Sainz and Norris.

But the line-up will also be an exciting one to watch, and Norris is looking forward to sharing McLaren’s garage space with Ricciardo.

“Yeah, it’s gonna be a good season I think next year!” Norris told Racer. “I look forward to it.

“We’ve had a good few laughs already over the past couple of years and he’s a really nice guy — we get along well.

“We’ve still got this season — we’ve still got to start it yet but to try and finish off well between Carlos and myself and then we start looking ahead to a kind of a new start and a different challenge for next year.

“But I look forward to having Danny as a team-mate; he’s obviously a multiple race winner and of course he’s Australian, so it’s going to be good fun!”

George W. Bush Joins Icons In Effort To Rally The American Spirit

Former President George W. Bush issued a call for unity, courage and compassion in the face of the coronavirus pandemic Saturday as part of a live-streamed project featuring cultural and political icons striving to rally the American spirit.

The video tweeted by Bush praises Americans for their ability to unify during challenging times, and it refrains from partisanship or criticism of President Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic. Still, Trump, who pointedly eschewed the tradition of calling on past presidents for help during times of national crisis, took to Twitter to express his irritation with the effort Sunday. Bush was far from alone in the quest to rally Americans as the nation confronts one of the biggest health and economic challenges in decades. Former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Martin Luther King III, Special Olympics Chair Tim Shriver, Quincy Jones, Naomi Judd, Andrew Yang, Aloe Blacc and Sean Combs aired videos in the “The Call to Unite” project.

But it was Bush’s video that caught the current president’s attention.

In the video featuring images of Americans supporting one another, Bush strikes a tone of compassion.

“This is a challenging and solemn time in the life of our nation and world. A remorseless, invisible enemy threatens the elderly and vulnerable among us, a disease that can quickly take breath and life. Medical professionals are risking their own health for the health of others, and we’re deeply grateful. Officials at every level are setting out the requirements of public health that protect us all, and we all need to do our part,” said Bush.

“The disease also threatens broader damage, harm to our sense of safety, security and community. The larger challenge we share is to confront an outbreak of fear and loneliness. And it is frustrating that many of the normal tools of compassion, a hug a touch can bring the opposite of the good we intend. In this case we serve our neighbor by separating from them. We cannot allow physical separation to become emotional isolation. This requires us to be, not only compassionate, but creative in our outreach.”

Bush also reminded Americans that they have risen to such challenges in the past.

“First, let us remember we have faced times of testing before. Following 9/11, I saw a great nation rise as one to honor the brave, to grieve with the grieving and to embrace unavoidable new duties, and I have no doubt, none at all, that this spirit of service and sacrifice is alive and well in America. Second, let us remember that empathy and simple kindness are essential powerful tools of national recovery,” he added.

“Third, let us remember that the suffering we experience as a nation does not fall evenly. In the days to come it will be especially important to care in practical ways for the elderly, the ill and the unemployed. Finally, let us remember how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat. In the final analysis, we are not partisan combatants, we are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God. We rise or fall together and we are determined to rise.”

Trump took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Bush’s attempt to soothe a worried nation. For Trump, it is apparently too little, too late. He paraphrased “Fox and Friends” host Peter Hegseth in questioning Bush’s loyalty.

“Oh [by] the way, I appreciate the message from former President Bush, but where was he during Impeachment calling for putting partisanship aside,” the president tweeted. “He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history!”

Trump has been clear that he doesn’t feel he needs the help of his predecessors despite the tradition of deploying past presidents in times of crisis. Asked at a press briefing in March if he would call on them, he gave a hard ‘no,’ declaring that his administration was doing a tremendous job of dealing with the coronavirus.

“I don’t think I’m going to learn much,”he said. “And, you know, I guess you could say that there’s probably a natural inclination not to call.”

Newly Found Purse Lost In 1957 Tells Story Of Young Ohio Co-Ed

CANTON, OH — The contents of a woman or girl’s purse reveal much about her — and when the bag has been missing for as many years as Patti Rumfola’s was, examining the contents is like hopping into a time machine and going back more than six decades to the 1950s.

Rumfola, a 1960 graduate of what was Hoover High School in Canton, Ohio, lost her red clutch purse in 1957.

Chas Pyle, a custodian at the school — now known as North Canton Middle School — unearthed Rumfola’s red purse last spring when he was fixing some loose trim on a locker. He found it wedged between the locker and wall, covered in dust.

The school district got in touch with the family of Rumfola, who died in 2013. The contents of the purse help tell a story of a teenage girl who chewed peppermint-flavored Beech-Nut gum, wore Hazel Bishop lipstick in the shade “Pastel Pink” and had a friend named Bonnie, who wrote on her photo “Good luck to a swell girl and friend.”

Apparently, she was a civic-minded teen. She was a high school member of the American Junior Red Cross, which began at the end of World War I and saw huge membership surge to almost 20 million during World War II. After that war, the organization continued, and members such as Rumfola continued to work on projects that, for example, provided assistance to war veterans and their families.

Her wallet was found along with the missing purse, revealing a few “wheat” pennies that her children ultimately were given, a library card that expired in 1960, ticket stubs to athletic events and a YMCA membership, according to a North Canton City Schools Facebook post.

Getting into a football game cost 35 cents back then. Annual YMCA dues were $6 in 1956, then shot up to $9 in 1958.

A 1956 calendar from the Lilly pharmaceutical company proclaimed that Ilotycin, its version of erythromycin, “the most effective antibiotic for common bacterial infections.” A 1957 wallet-size calendar from the Market Heights Pharmacy, which operated at 2970 Market Ave. N., was devoid of promotions for particular brands of drugs.

In those days, high school seniors ordered calling cards with their commencement announcements and invitations, and Tumfola had several in her purse. The addresses of friends in Jamestown, New York, and Newton, Iowa, were neatly written on what appears to be from a steno pad.

“Those of you who may have gone to school in the 1950s or 1960s may have memories of some of these items,” the district wrote on Facebook. “In one of the photos, you will see nine coins from Patti’s wallet. Each of her five children kept one of the wheat pennies as a token of remembrance of their mom.”

The contents of the old purse sparked so much curiosity that school officials set out to find out all they could about Patti Rumfola’s life.

The daughter of Charles and Rose (Abbate) Rumfola, she was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 25, 1942, according to an obituary published by the Punxsutawney Spirit.

She was a public school teacher in Annapolis, Maryland, for many years. She had an interest in theater and was one of the founding members of the Theatre Arts Guild in Punxsutawney, and also the Young Women’s Club. She designed and sewed costumes for the Reitz Theatre.

In 1980, she married John G. Michele, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2007.

She was living in Treasure Lake, Pennsylvania, when she died and was a member of the Ladies of the Lake social club, and also book and quilting clubs.

She died at DuBois Regional Medical Center on Oct. 21, 2013, at the age of 71.

She was survived by five children: John P. Michele of Crofton, Maryland; Stephanie M. Hyder of Frederick, Maryland; Lt. Cmdr. (retired) Emory A. Anderson of Annapolis; Charles J. Anderson of Riva, Maryland; and Charlotte A. Baron of Arnold, Maryland.

Click Here: camiseta seleccion argentina

Click Here: los jaguares argentina

McLaren rebound in 2019 changed Ricciardo’s sentiment

McLaren boss Zak Brown says the team’s productive 2019 season and its defeat of Renault in F1’s midfield battle convinced Daniel Ricciardo to change his mind about the Woking-based outfit’s prospects and switch his allegiance to the team for 2021.

Ricciardo had initially been courted by McLaren during the summer of 2018 when the Aussie – racing for Red Bull at the time – was weighing his options for the following year.

Ricciardo ultimately declined Browns’s offer, believing his interests would be better served by joining forces with Renault, a full works outfit, rather than driving for a team that appeared to struggle to find its footing following a period of massive underperformance.

Brown: Ricciardo ‘capable of winning title immediately’

But twelve months later, the French team was chasing a rejuvenated and competitive McLaren in F1’s fierce midfield. By the end of the 2019 campaign, Ricciardo’s perception of the papaya squad had significantly changed.

“We went after him a couple of years ago before he made the decision not to join us,” Brown told Sky F1.

“I’ve talked to him about it since and he went ‘you were coming off a pretty poor season’ – which was putting it politely – ‘but also there was a lot of this is what we’re going to do to rebuild the team’.

While McLaren’s restructuring plans had been put on their rails in July 2018, the team’s future still lacked clarity with regard to the organization of several key departments.

“I hadn’t brought in yet Andreas Seidl or James Key or restructured the leadership team.

“So there were a lot of promises and, coming off such a bad season, I could see how he would go ‘oh, let’s see how this plays out’,” added Brown.

“He likes how it’s played out. I’ve liked how it’s played out.

“He’s seen the changes we’ve made, the leadership Andreas has brought, the backing we have from our shareholders, going to the Mercedes engine, we’re a team on the move and I think he’s going to help get us to the next level.

“Getting a grand prix winner like Daniel definitely is a sign we’re going in the right direction.”

Stanford Study: Young Adults Flout Social Distancing Rules

STANFORD, CA — Until there’s a vaccine or a cure for the new coronavirus, adherence to social distancing rules is our only hope of surviving this pandemic.

But to a large segment of the population – and young adults in particular – getting a paycheck, staying in shape, maintaining their sanity and being able to gather with friends are higher priorities.

That’s the finding of newly-released Stanford study, which says most adults aged 18 to 31 and nearly 40 percent of those surveyed have defied social distancing rules that epidemiologists say are the most effective tool we have to save lives and shorten the time we all spend under lockdown.

The survey was conducted by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Stanford’s Communications and Epidemiology Departments and published as a non-peer reviewed document on medRxiv.

The survey was conducted between March 14-23, when states and local governments were just starting to implement stay-at-home orders. Researchers collected data on social media platforms from 20,734 survey respondents on Twitter, Facebook and NextDoor.

The study mirrored what co-author Eleni Linos, a dermatologist and epidemiologist at the Stanford School of Medicine, saw with her own eyes.

“As I looked around my own neighborhood in early March, some people were rushing to gather supplies and isolate, while others were going about their normal lives,” Linos said. “Our study shows that different people are experiencing this crisis in different ways. Not everyone has the same opportunities.”

The study reports that 39.8% of survey respondents said they failed to comply with social distancing rules, and 52.4 of those aged between 18 to 31 failed to comply.

The leading factor cited for noncompliance is work, with 28.2% of survey respondents working in non-essential industries with jobs that can’t be done at home.

Concerns about mental and physical well-being were cited by 20.3 percent of respondents.

Respondents had other reasons too, with 18.8% of the survey respondents believing hand washing to be sufficient, 13.9% expressing their desire to continue everyday activities, and 12.7% saying they believed social distancing rules reflected societal overreaction.

“I hope that governments use these findings and recommendations to improve how they communicate public health orders for sheltering-in-place so that we can get as much compliance as possible,” said Jeff Hancock, a communications and co-author of the paper.
