Watch: Mercedes Driver Repeatedly Rams Car Blocking Her In

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Los Angeles Police are looking for a woman caught on video repeatedly ramming her Mercedes-Benz into a Mustang that blocked her at a parking lot near a Hollywood taco truck over the weekend. They may not have to look far.

Through her attorney, Instagram model Amber Rose Tyson admitted to CBS Los Angeles that she’s the driver in the video and plans to surrender to police. This isn’t Tyson’s first viral video. She is the same woman who made headlines two years ago when she led police on a 40-mile chase in the Inland Empire while giggling and livestreaming the pursuit. A deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop her and arrested Tyson, of Van Nuys.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Patch an ongoing investigation into the incident, but a spokesman would not say if police are investigating the distinctively-tattooed Tyson as the suspect.

The driver in Sunday’s incident is wanted for felony vandalism and misdemeanor battery, said LAPD Public Information Officer Jay Chaves.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning as a crowd gathered around a taco truck on the corner of Western and Lexington avenues. Cars double-parked in an adjacent parking lot as the crowd mingled and people used their hoods as dining tables. In the video, a black ford mustang with taco plates sitting on its hood can be seen blocking a silver Mercedes.

The Mustang owner was asked to move the car, but the Mercedes driver apparently became enraged at how long it was taking.

“She was screaming at all my friends, ‘Move the car, Move the car.’ So I tossed the keys to another one of my friends who was getting in the car to move,” a witness told KTLA.

The video shows the Mercedes driver back into the Mustang repeatedly as startled diners race to get out of the way. She moves the Mustang into oncoming traffic and pulls out of the parking lot.

“It was honestly terrifying, I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet,” the Mustang’s owner told KTLA. “It’s insane, it’s nothing you’d ever expect to happen to you. It’s like, oh, you hear about that on the news, oh, you hear about that on TV, and then you’re sitting there, and you’re watching this car get rammed over and over again. It’s just this blatant disregard for any sort of human life in the way of that.”

Oprah Winfrey Donating $13 Million To Morehouse Scholarship

ATLANTA — Entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey has donated another $13 million to continue the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Program at Morehouse College, pushing her total investment to $25 million, which college officials say is the largest endowment in its history.

Winfrey spent Monday at Morehouse for the 30th anniversary of the scholarship program she created in 1989. A portrait was unveiled in her honor at the school.

Winfrey’s announcement comes only a few months after Texas billionaire Robert Smith said he is creating a grant to pay off the student loan debt of the Morehouse Class of 2019.

According to Forbes magazine, Smith in 2000 founded Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm focusing on investing in software companies. Forbes estimates Smith’s current net worth to be about $5 billion.

Click Here: Rugby league Jerseys

Borrell urges EU to be foreign policy ‘player, not the playground’

The EU’s new top diplomat, Josep Borrell, has urged the bloc to step up and be a real geopolitical player or risk Europe becoming just a playground for other big powers.

Ahead of chairing his first meeting of EU foreign ministers Monday, the bloc’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy wrote a three-page letter to ministers late last week outlining his ambitions.

In the letter, seen by POLITICO, Borrell wrote that as “we see the rebirth of geostrategic competition,” notably between China, Russia and the United States, the EU “has the option of becoming a player, a true geostrategic actor, or being mostly the playground.”

His remarks reaffirm the new Commission’s aim to be more geopolitically relevant, with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a former German defense minister, saying last week that each weekly meeting of the College of Commissioners will set aside time for a report on “external action.” The new geopolitical push was also reflected in the Strategic Agenda 2019-2024, agreed by EU leaders in June, stating that “the EU needs to pursue a strategic course of action and increase its capacity to act autonomously to safeguard its interests, uphold its values and way of life, and help shape the global future.”

Diplomats are keen to see how Borrell, a former Spanish foreign minister, will evolve the activities of the External Action Service, the EU’s diplomatic body, as the Commission and the European Council take on a greater say in EU foreign policy.

“We need to speak more the language of power, not to conquer but to contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous and just world,” Borrell wrote before going on to cite Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as saying that “if we only preach the merits of principles, and shy away from exercising power in the geopolitical arena, our continent may always be right, but it will seldom be relevant.”

Way of working

Diplomats have long discussed how to make EU decision-making in foreign policy quicker and more effective.

In a passage that will cheer those diplomats who have complained that the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) was turning into a “travel agency,” where ministers talk about their trips but often take no actual decisions, Borrell promises change: “I will strive to make our discussions informed, interactive, political and result-oriented, and for outcomes that are operational,” he wrote. “I intend, inter alia, to send you letters before each FAC meeting, setting out the scope, purpose and possible outcomes of the proposed agenda topics.”

Borrell also noted that “trade and technology issues must now be considered as foreign policy issues on which we will have to take strong initiatives,” and announced that he will also chair a “Commissioners’ group for a stronger Europe in the World (CGSE) to facilitate a coherent whole-of -the-EU-approach in mobilizing EU tools,” calling on EU capitals, often divided over foreign policy, for “greater coherence” between EU and member-country actions.

Setting priorities

Borrell split EU foreign policy priorities into two groups: more local “neighborhood” issues and broader geopolitical ones.

“First and foremost, we must anchor solidly the Western Balkans within the EU,” he wrote, without explicitly naming North Macedonia and Albania, the two Western Balkan states with whom the previous Commission recommended opening accession talks — only to be blocked by France which insists the EU must first manage to work more efficiently before welcoming new countries into the bloc.

“It will be my priority to work for a Kosovo-Serbia global agreement and place Bosnia and Herzegovina on a path towards stability,” Borrell wrote. “We need to agree on how to handle the enlargement process,” he added, stressing that he will engage “to ensure we can reach a satisfactory agreement by the Zagreb summit next year.” That is a reference to a meeting in the Croatian capital in May 2020 ahead of which many EU states hope to see a green light for starting accession talks with the two Balkan nations.

Among other priorities, Borrell highlighted Turkey, whom “we must consider engaging in a candid dialogue … including at the highest level.” And Ukraine “remains a priority,” he said, calling for the “full implementation of the Minsk Agreement” signed in 2014 to stop the fighting in the Donbass.

In the Middle East, Iran (where he says the EU’s “non-proliferation efforts … will be key”) remains a priority issue, as do Africa and Libya.

At a more geopolitical level, the “U.S is and will remain a key partner and ally,” but at the same time “we need to work on our engagement with the broader world to become a true geo-political actor,” Borrell wrote.

The letter does not include any reference to a proposal, put forward by former Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, to move away from unanimity in some foreign policy issues and opt instead for a qualified majority. That’s an issue that “is not part of the agenda today,” Borrell told reporters on his way to the meeting.

Some diplomats say they already see a more proactive style at play, noting a statement that Borrell issued on Iran on Sunday in which he criticized “the Iranian security forces’ disproportionate response to recent demonstrations” — language they say is tougher than in previous statements — and a decision to push forward a Dutch initiative to legislate a worldwide EU human rights sanctions regime that was agreed by foreign ministers and for which the European External Action Service will have to submit a proposal.

So. Bay Rep. Lofgren Sad Gilroy Officers Not Honored In D.C.

GILROY, CA — Was California drawn off the national landscape when Monday’s White House ceremony to honor Ohio and Texas police officers who responded to mass shootings failed to include Gilroy law enforcement?

That’s the question U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, pondered Wednesday morning with Patch in considering the actions of three brave Gilroy officers within her district who confronted the shooter at the Garlic Festival on July 28. She did not ask the White House.

The gunman, 19-year-old Santino William Legan, killed two San Jose children and one Santa Cruz man before fatally turning the gun on himself.

The Gilroy officers identified as Eric Cryar, a 23-year-veteran; Hugo Del Moral; a 17-year-veteran; and Robert Basuino, a 13-year veteran are deemed as heroes by many since they took on the gunman armed with an assault rifle within a minute of shots fired about an hour before the festival wrapped up. Sunday’s festival ended the weekend before the other mass shootings that killed 32 between El Paso and Dayton. Those officers and some civilians received the Medal of Valor and Heroic Commendations by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Requests for comment as to whether Gilroy was slighted by the Trump Administration went unanswered by the White House on Wednesday.

The relationship between California and the federal government has been prickly since Trump took office. Tensions have increased, as the gun control debate makes it way into hearing rooms.

Sensitivities aside, Lofgren simply wanted her district’s officers to get due recognition for their courage.

“It was very disappointing. Why not Gilroy? They were so incredibly brave. If they had not stopped him, he would have shot more people. They took him down and saved countless lives,” the congresswoman told Patch.

The legality of high capacity magazines is up for grabs, among other calls for stricter controls on a national level.

The Gilroy gunman legally bought the assault rifle in neighboring Nevada where laws are looser.

“The laws in California do make a difference. This is why we need a nationwide approach,” she said.

Because of the variance in approaches from a state to federal level, Lofgren wonders if Gilroy was “dissed” by the feds.

The California Peace Officers’ Association in Sacramento avoided the topic somewhat since it didn’t hear about the White House ceremony from its union members.

“Whether the omission of Gilroy first responders was a slight to California” is unclear, Deputy Director Shaun Rundle told Patch Wednesday.

“While I know California cops don’t seek special recognition for doing their duty, I’m sure there is likely disappointment at not being included,” Rundle said.

The Gilroy Police Department failed to respond to Patch’s inquiry.

CA Wildfires: Winds Fuel New Fires; Governor To Visit Evacuees

CALIFORNIA — Powerful winds and ripe fire weather conditions threaten to bring more devastation Wednesday to areas already ravaged by wildfires and ignite new blazes across California.

The Golden State is under a state of emergency as several fires have scorched tens of thousands of acres, forced tens of thousands of evacuations and caused millions to lose power from mandatory shutoffs.

As millions of Californians remain under red flag warnings across the state, Gov. Gavin Newsom is scheduled to visit with fire evacuees in Santa Rosa and residents impacted by power shutoffs in American Canyon on Wednesday, according to his office. Newsom declared a statewide emergency over the weekend due to the fires and dangerous weather conditions.

Active Fires

As of Wednesday morning, firefighters continue to battle at least 11 blazes across the state, according to Cal Fire. Some of the fires ignited late last week and new fires sparked over the weekend and this week.

Fueled by strong winds, several new fires erupted Wednesday morning.

In Ventura County, the rapidly-spreading Easy Fire in Simi Valley has scorched 1,600 acres. The blaze, which broke out near the 118 Freeway and Madera Street, was threatening 7,000 homes homes along with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, with zero containment by Wednesday evening.

More than 26,000 were forced to flee their homes in Simi Valley, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks as the most intense windstorm in a decade blew the flames toward their hillside communities. By midday, several out buildings were destroyed as well as a home on Tierra Rejada, fire officials said.

In Los Angeles County, the Mureau Fire in Calabasas burned 10 acres before crews halted the flames. The fire, which sparked on the north side of the 101 Freeway between Las Virgenes and Mureau Road, initially threatened structures in Calabasas and Hidden Hills.

The Brea Fire in Diamond Bar shut down the 57 freeway, but authorities halted the blaze at 16 acres by the afternoon.

In Riverside County, three fires broke out Wednesday morning. A fire in the Nuevo area burned 5 acres, including multiple structures, forcing evacuation orders. The Hill Fire in Jurupa Valley burned over 600 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations. And the Dexter Fire near downtown Riverside threatened a neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The Kincade Fire, which remains the largest fire burning in the state, has blackened 76,825 acres, destroyed 206 structures — including 94 homes — and damaged 40 other structures. Another 90,015 homes and other structures remain threatened by the massive fire, which forced roughly 185,000 people to evacuate their homes.

But containment is growing, Cal Fire officials said, with authorities reaching 30 percent containment Wednesday morning and lifting many evacuation orders later that afternoon. The blaze sparked northeast of Geyserville in Sonoma County on Oct. 23.

Roughly 5,000 local, state and federal personnel were assisting with the Kincade Fire alone.

The Getty Fire sparked before dawn Monday in Los Angeles County on the west side of Sepulveda Pass, where Interstate 405 passes through the Santa Monica Mountains. The fire scorched 658 acres and shut down the 405 Freeway on- and off-ramps and Getty Center Drive.

Thousands of homes in the Brentwood area were evacuated and at least 18 schools were forced to close due to the blaze. At least eight homes have been destroyed. The fire was 27 percent contained Wednesday morning.

The Tick Fire, also in Los Angeles County, broke out Thursday in the Santa Clarita area and was 94 percent contained by Wednesday morning. The fire has burned 4,615 acres, destroyed 29 structures and damaged 42 others. Evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents were lifted over the weekend.

Power Outages

Major utility companies in California have been shutting off power proactively to prevent wildfires after utility lines started massive deadly and destructive fires over the last two years.

The ripe fire weather conditions that sparked and fueled the recent blazes prompted Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the state’s largest utility company, to cut power over the weekend to hundreds of thousands of customers in Northern and Central California.

About 973,000 PG&E customers in 37 counties were impacted by the series of deliberate blackouts. As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to nearly three-quarters of the impacted customers, according to PG&E. As red flag weather conditions returned, however, PG&E started shutting off power again Tuesday to roughly 540,000 in 27 counties.

In Southern and Central California, Southern California Edison announced nearly 319,000 customers could lose power due to planned power shutoffs.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, the utility company had cut off power to 62,571 customers in Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. An additional 304,154 customers could lose power in Kern, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

San Diego Gas & Electric Company announced nearly 41,000 customers could lose power due to precautionary power shutoffs.

As of 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, the utility company had cut off power to 23,209 customers in San Diego and Orange counties. An additional 17,660 customers could lose power.

Click Here: brisbane lions guernsey 2019
