Quand Robert Downey Jr. fait pleurer un jeune fan d’Iron Man…

Dommage.”

A chacun d’apprécier.

On a hâte.

Flashback: bon anniversaire Dany Brillant

Jean Alesi: ‘Formula 1 hasn’t changed, we have’

Former F1 driver Jean Alesi reckons that Grand Prix racing is just as exciting today as it was back in the days when the Frenchman when was hustling his Ferrari around the sport’s tracks.

Alesi burst on the scene in 1989 as a young prodigy driving for Ken Tyrrell.

His talent landed him a drive with the Scuderia in 1991, but despite a career than span 12 seasons, Alesi only secured a single win in F1, his moment of glory coming with Ferrari at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix.

Hamilton weighs in on work-life pressures in F1

“The years at Ferrari are unforgettable,” Alesi told RadioRai’s ‘I Lunatici ‘ program. “Seeing the fans who still remember me today always makes me very happy.

“I will never forget the victory at the Canadian Grand Prix in 1995. It was my birthday, it was a crazy day.

“On several occasions I came close to winning, without ever being able to bring it home for various problems.

“That Grand Prix in the last laps I had enormous tension. I was trying to be as smooth as possible with the car to get to the finish line.”

Alesi now oversees the career of his son Giuliano, who is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and who will soon embark on his second season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

The 55-year-old is a frequent visitor to the paddock and casts a much more permissive view on the current state of F1 than the many fans who often complain of the sport’s lack of on-track action.

“It is not true that it is more boring, it is we who look at it differently,” he insisted.

“We are all a little more spoiled. The drivers are prepared and trained, the cars are fast and powerful, Formula 1 always gives great battles. I like it.”

From Ayrton Senna to Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell or Nelson Piquet, Alesi went wheel-to-wheel with some of Grand Prix racing’s greatest legends.

“Fangio was a hero,” he said. “In his day, if you made a mistake you were dead. But Senna impressed me the most.

“He had an amazing car control. The determination, the spectacle and the emotion that he gave me, no one else transmitted that to me.”

As for today’s current crop of young F1 drivers, one man on the grid unsurprisingly gets Alesi’s vote: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc!

“He’s a phenomenon,” he enthused. “He will certainly be world champion in the near future.”

Guardiola unsure if Man City star Sterling will be fit to face Real Madrid

The England international picked up a hamstring injury against Tottenham and is facing a spell on the sidelines

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City will be without Raheem Sterling for “weeks” and cannot be sure whether the forward will be fit for their upcoming Champions League trip to face Real Madrid.

England international Sterling suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s Premier League defeat at Tottenham and will miss this weekend’s home match against West Ham .

City have not specified the severity of the damage Sterling has sustained, and Guardiola did not offer any guarantee that the 25-year-old will be ready to return to action before the end of February.

More teams

After the West Ham game, City take in their winter break, with their next match coming against Leicester City on February 22, followed four days later by a clash with 13-time European champions Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

To lose a potential match-winner such as Sterling would be a major blow to City’s hopes of beating the La Liga leaders.

And when asked about Sterling’s situation, Guardiola told a news conference: “Of course it takes weeks, but we will see before Leicester, Madrid and the rest of the games. I don’t know right now.

“It is a problem. [Injuries are] always a problem, but it is what it is.”

Sterling’s absence leaves Guardiola with few options in terms of wide attackers, with Leroy Sane still recovering from the cruciate knee ligament injury that has ruled him out of action since the Community Shield in August.

The Germany international, who is a transfer target for Bayern Munich, has returned to full training, but Guardiola insists he will not be rushed back into action ahead of schedule.

“He’s started to train with us, he is still not there,” he said of the former Schalke star. “When you have an injury, especially this one for six months, you need to recover, tempo, rhythm, confidence in your knee, and don’t think about the injury.

“He needs time, it’s not a case of him training and he will then immediately be there, it’s not like an ankle or a muscular injury. This injury it needs time.

“He needs weeks. What’s important is the surgery was perfect and he’s recovering incredibly well, he’ll come back stronger than before but now he needs a little bit of time.”

What is Peter Crouch's net worth and how much does the former England star earn?

The gangly ex-Liverpool and Tottenham striker’s playing days are now behind him, but he is still an active member of the football world

Former England, Liverpool and Tottenham forward Peter Crouch – also known as “Crouchy” – may be more known for his iconic “robot dance” during the 2006 World Cup and his extraordinary height than his goal-scoring prowess, but he was a beloved footballer all the same in his own right.

The lanky ex-striker had successful stints at a handful of English clubs before finally hanging up his boots in 2019 at Burnley, amassing 599 Premier League appearances and netting 145 goals.

Crouch has earned a reputation for his affable personality, dry humour and humble exterior, along with his astute self-awareness compared to his other former England star names.

With his playing days now over, Goal takes a look at his net worth, his endorsement deals and more.

What is Peter Crouch’s net worth?

Crouch’s total career earnings are roughly $35 million (£27m) according to Celebrity Net Worth. He was estimated to be on an annual salary of £3.6m during his time at Tottenham.

Following his retirement, Crouch has been a regular pundit on the likes of Amazon Prime, BBC and BT Sport, offering match analysis and insight.

His current salary at his punditry jobs, including his Amazon Prime stint, is unknown, though it is expected to below the likes of Ian Wright at the BBC.

What sponsorship deals does Peter Crouch have?

Despite his sense of humour and down-to-earth personality, Crouch was never the most marketable footballer in terms of commercial deals as, say, other, more obvious stars.

He did enjoy a lucrative partnership with sportswear brand Puma during his playing days, however.

He also took part in McDonalds’ ‘Reindeer Ready’ Christmas campaign, endorsing the brand on his Twitter account.

How many social media followers does Peter Crouch have?

Crouch does not have an official Instagram account, but he is active on Twitter – sharing memories of his footballing days, giving updates on life following retirement and, occasionally, making a joke or several.

He has over 787,000 followers on his Twitter account at the time of writing, nowhere near the 17.2 million followers that former team-mate Wayne Rooney boasts or the 10.7m of Rio Ferdinand.

The former England international constantly makes self-deprecating jokes about himself, mainly to do with his tall frame or that he was not as famous his other Three Lions colleagues.

He is married to model Abbey Clancey, whom he met while playing for Liverpool and married in June 2011. They have four children together – two daughters and two sons – with his youngest child, Jack, born in June 2019.

Crouch is also an avid music lover, particularly of the rock genre.

He is a massive fan of the Leicester-based rock band Kasabian, and was even spotted crowd-surfing at a show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton in December 2014.

He frequently posts about musicians and bands he is a fan of on his Twitter, most recently throwing support behind the likes of Tom Grennan and Sam Fender.

Crouch’s Euro Fest 2020

For this summer’s European Championships, Crouch will be part of a BBC One comedy entertainment series titled “Crouch’s Euro Fest 2020”.

Each episode will consist of Crouch, joined by various hosts and celebrity guests, as they discuss each night’s standout game – accompanied with a live band, games, irreverent humour and more.

Crouch said of his new venture: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with the BBC and can’t quite believe this is happening.

“All I did was dance like a robot 13 years ago and now I’ve got my own actual TV show! I can’t wait for Euro 2020 and for football fever to grip the nation!”

What charity work does Peter Crouch do?

Crouch has been involved in numerous charitable initiatives, such as Comic Relief and work with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

In 2017, he took part in a charity game for boyhood club Queens Park Rangers to raise funds for victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster that took place in west London.

The forward grew up five miles from the scene of the disaster, saying at the time about Game4Grenfell: “It really hit home, growing up so close. Mum drove past the next day and called me, she just could not believe it. You feel helpless, you want to do something.

“I was told about some dark things, firemen being so close but not being able to save people. The loss of life, the effect on families and the emergency services who responded, it’s devastating.”

He continued: “Football has the power to help. We’ve got two legends as captains, Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer. I can play because it’s during the international break — and I’m a washed-up international now.

“Going back to QPR as well, where it all began, will be special, so this means a lot to me.”

Man Utd suffered against Liverpool 'long balls', says Solskjaer

The manager believes the quality of the Merseysiders’ direct play makes them extremely difficult to stop going forward

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had nothing but praise for Liverpool after finishing up on the losing side at Anfield, while suggesting the Premier League leaders make the difference with their direct playing style.

Manchester United had battled to a 1-1 draw in October against the Reds, the only time this season that Jurgen Klopp’s table-toppers have dropped league points.

But it was a different story on Sunday, as goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah led the hosts to a comfortable 2-0 win.

Van Dijk struck with an early header to open the scoring, while the Egypt international put the game beyond doubt in injury time after latching on to goalkeeper Alisson’s lofted pass.

Solskjaer recognised the gulf between the two teams, but also pointed out that Liverpool are not afraid to take a route-one approach to the net when needed.

“It doesn’t matter whether the scoreline is a fair reflection of the game. They won it,” he told reporters after the game.

“We had chances and they had chances. It’s about taking the moment. We had some big chances but Liverpool will say they deserved to win.

“They are the most direct team in the league. They put you under so much pressure and I thought our defenders and midfielders handled it well.

“When the long balls go for Mane, Salah and Firmino, then it is very difficult as they always look to go in behind you.

“The last 10-15 minutes we really pressed them back and made them look tired and us look really fit.

“We looked strong. But we didn’t have that quality. When you don’t have that quality in the last pass and finish then you aren’t going to get anything from places like this.”

The Norwegian singled out Van Dijk after the defender left the Reds reeling with a brilliant effort to put Liverpool in the ascendancy.

“We don’t like to concede from set-pieces. [The first goal] didn’t go to plan,” he added.

“You have to [close] against Virgil as he is one of the best headers of the ball. When he gets a free run that’s never easy to defend against.

“It’s disappointing. Conceding from the last kick of the game is also disappointing but we had to send everybody up by then after half-an-hour building pressure.”

United are back in action on Wednesday at home to Burnley, with Liverpool travelling to take on Wolves the following day.

Abiteboul admits Renault needs ‘stronger direction’

Click:cheap forged wheels

Renault F1 managing director Cyril Abiteboul had admitted that the team fell short in 2019 because it lacked sufficiently strong technical direction to make full use of its available budget.

The manufacturer had a reported investment boost of £15 million last season but came away with little to show for it. It was fifth in the final constructors standings, putting them behind McLaren which was using customer engines from Renault.

That outcome has led to a shake-up in the technical department at Enstone, with the departure of technical director Nick Chester at the end of last season. In his place, former McLaren and Ferrari engineer Pat Fry will be joining the squad in 2020.

  • Taffin says Renault engine now surpassed only by Ferrari

“We were missing something in the technical leadership of the team, in the ability to pull all the resources that we put together,” Abiteboul explained recently to Motorsport.com.

“There have been lots of investments, £15 million of investment,” he continued. “But you know, all of that needs to be driven by a force.

“I felt that – and we felt that – we were a bit weak in technical leadership. Therefore, that led to the recruitment of Pat.”

But Abiteboul insisted that the team’s mediocre performance in 2019 was not down to any particular individuals or easily identified factors.

“There were different types of reasons for that: reliability, the engine, operation at the track, a bit of pitstop, and a bit of strategy,” he said.

The arrival of Daniel Ricciardo also meant a slow start to the campaign while he settled into the new team.

“That unfortunately cost us some points at the time where we were in decent shape,” Abiteboul concurred. “I think in the first part of this season we had a decent car.

“But it was not very visible, because we didn’t manage to get the results or score the points that we could have at the time, given the theoretical competitiveness of our car against our competitors.”

Abiteboul added that the team also hit a fundamental problem with the design nature of the R.S.19 that prevented them making the expected next step forward when it was time for upgrades to be rolled out at the French Grand Prix.

“When we were expecting to bring the car to the next level, it didn’t really work,” he said. “We discovered that there was a sort of limit for the development of the car given the choices that were made in terms of overall philosophy.

“That was the story of the second part of the season. It was more difficult, and [we were] being out-developed by teams around us.”

Abiteboul insisted that the team had learned from last year and would adopt a very different approach to races in 2020 as a result.

“What really matters at the start of the season,” he said. “It’s to be able to get out of the races what you can get.

“It’s not [about] the best outright pace, but having a robust package that can be reliable,” he added.
