Cher Wonders: Can America Survive Four More Years of ‘Putin’s Choice’ Trump

Far-left pop icon Cher wondered whether American could survive another four years of President Donald Trump, or “Putin’s choice for president” after “Moscow Mitch” McConnell blocked a Senate vote on an election security bill.

“WHATEVER MUST B DONE, “MUST B DONE.”FK PLAYING BY RULES.”MOSCOW MITCH” DIDNT LET SENATE VOTE ON BILL 2 SAVE ELECTION FROM RUSSIAN DOMINATION, BECAUSE HE WANTS”PUTIN’S CHOICE”4 PRESIDENT.” Cher said, blasting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for blocking of a vote on an election security bill this week.

“GOP IS, ITS NOW DJT’S PARTY. can [America] survive 4 more yrs of @RealDonaldTrump,” she said.

Cher also claimed recently that Trump only focuses on two things: making more money and becoming a dictator. “Mitch McConnell is a Russian” trended on Twitter early Saturday monring after the Senate majority leader blocked Democrat efforts to pass election security legislation.

Despite Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) claim that the election security bill was “common sense,” the House version of the bill passed with only one Republican vote, making it overwhelmingly partisan.

McConnell contended that the Senate should instead take up bipartisan measures to secure America’s elections and that the Democrats who are pushing this bill continue to propagate the “conspiracy theory” of collusion between the 2016 Donald Trump campaign and the Russian government.

The Kentucky Republican also blocked a request to pass a second election security bill that would allow political candidates, their families, and campaign associates to the report to the Federal Bureau of Investigation when they receive offers of assistance from foreign governments.

The Senate majority leader claims that states, not the federal government, should handle elections. McConnell also said that Congress has already addressed concerns over election security that arose from Russia’s cyber attacks during the 2016 presidential election.

Ça me fait vraiment plaisir.

'Star Wars' Star Mark Hamill Suggests Boycotting 'All Jimmy John's Restaurants'

Actor Mark Hamill has encouraged his social media followers to boycott Jimmy John’s sandwich shops because the owner of the chain was once again seen on social media in a hunting photo.

The actor jumped to Twitter on Friday to go on the attack against Jimmy John’s founder, Jimmy John Liautaud, who turned up in a photo standing next to an elephant he apparently killed at a preserve in Africa years ago.

“Thumbs up to a boycott of all @jimmyjohns restaurants!” the “Luke Skywalker” Mark Hamill said, adding, “with apologies for posting this obscene photo.”

This photo, though, is an old one that pops back up every once in a while causing animal rights activists to get enraged. The last time the photo resurfaced was in 2017.

Indeed, reporter and animal rights enthusiast Yashar Ali suggested that everyone just calm down and move on because real animal rights activists are well aware that Liautaud is an avid big game hunter.

Ali scolded people for wasting time in another round of condemnation of the restaurant owner’s hobby.

“Few times a year this pic of the founder of Jimmy Johns [sic] goes viral. It almost always starts trending and everyone is shocked! Tons of retweets!” Ali wrote. “But this pic is from years ago and meanwhile [elephants] are facing a real crisis & when people tweet about that, it gets little attention.”

Meanwhile, actor Vincent D’Onofrio went on a Twitter crusade of his own by attacking the Jimmy John’s owner.

“Look at this complete DONG DING KILLING AN ELEPHANT. Well that’s it for me @jimmyjohns no idea this guy was out there in my opinion behaving horribly toward animals. I’ve eaten at a store of his once. Never again. You choose. I have,” D’Onofrio said.

Actor Rutger Hauer, of ‘Blade Runner’ fame, Has Died at 75

Click:brick making machine

NEW YORK (AP) — Dutch film actor Rutger Hauer, who specialized in menacing roles, including a memorable turn as a murderous android in “Blade Runner” opposite Harrison Ford, has died. He was 75.

Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, says the actor died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands.

Hauer’s roles included a terrorist in “Nighthawks” with Sylvester Stallone, Cardinal Roark in “Sin City” and playing an evil corporate executive in “Batman Begins.” He was in the big-budget 1985 fantasy “Ladyhawke” and won a supporting-actor Golden Globe award in 1988 for “Escape from Sobibor.”

In “Blade Runner,” he played the murderous replicant Roy Batty on a desperate quest to prolong his artificially shortened life in post-apocalyptic, 21st-century Los Angeles.

In his dying, rain-soaked soliloquy, he looked back at his extraordinary existence. “All those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in rain. Time to die,” he said.

“It’s so much fun to playfully roam into the dark side of the soul and tease people,” the actor told The Associated Press in 1987. “If you try to work on human beings’ light side, that’s harder. What is good is hard. Most people try to be good all their lives. So you have to work harder to make those characters interesting.”

Hauer’s ruggedly handsome face, blue eyes and strong physique drew the attention of American producers in such international successes as “Turkish Delight,” ″Spetters” and “Soldier of Orange.” The offers from the United States came as a surprise to Hauer, who faced the same uncertain future experienced by other Dutch film actors.

“We make about 10 films a year, all in Dutch,” he recalled. “You act for your own community, basically, which is fine. But you can’t live on it. There is also the danger of overexposure; you can’t be too greedy.” After the world recognition for “Soldier of Orange,” a friend suggested Hauer might be able to find work in American films.

Hauer was born in the Netherlands village of Breukelen. His parents were actors but he had little concentration for school and at 15 ran away as a seaman on a freighter. That didn’t take, nor did a stint in the army, and his parents decided he was destined to follow the family profession. Rutger enrolled in acting school.

Hauer spent five years with a small troupe bringing theater to rural Holland. He made his film debut in the saucy “Turkish Delight,” nominated for an Oscar as best foreign language film of 1973.

Earlier in his career, a Hollywood agent suggested changing his name to something easier for the American public to learn. The actor declined. “If you’re good enough, people will remember your name,” he explained.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ineke ten Cate, and a daughter, actress Aysha Hauer, from a previous marriage.

Barnier to next British PM: May’s deal ‘only option’ for orderly Brexit

Commission’s chief negotiator says nostalgia, City rule-breakers and austerity fueled Leave vote.

If the U.K. wants to leave the EU with a deal, the current Withdrawal Agreement is “the only option,” according to the European Commission’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier.

“If the choice is to leave without a deal — fine. If the choice is to stay in the EU — also fine. But if the choice is still to leave the EU in an orderly manner, this treaty is the only option,” Barnier told the New York Review of Books in an interview published Wednesday. “This is all that our legal constraints allow.”

While numerous Tory leadership contenders say they want to scrap the Irish backstop in the Withdrawal Agreement in favor of so-called alternative arrangements, Barnier had a message for whoever succeeds Theresa May: Sign the treaty, and you can pursue alternative arrangements afterward. Otherwise, it’s no deal.

“We said that after the Withdrawal Agreement is accepted, we can immediately start work on a long-term solution for the Irish border,” Barnier said. “It could be, for example, what we call alternative arrangements: technology, drones, invisible controls. None of these arrangements are operational today.”

He added: “You cannot do it immediately. They [the technologies] must be fully operational. I was the French minister of agriculture — how do you control a single cow or a truckload of pork? You need technology. You need technical infrastructure to do that. And this takes time.”

Barnier pointed to contradictions in the Tories’ demands of the EU. “You cannot leave the EU, the single market, the customs union, and ask for no checks and controls at the same time,” he said. “Three types of controls are needed at every external border of the Union. To protect consumers and the EU’s budget, to protect business and stop counterfeiting. It’s not ideological: What is at stake in Ireland is peace and stability. Protection of the single market is important, but only second to peace and stability.”

Brexit should be used as a cautionary lesson for the entire EU, the veteran French statesman said.

“For Britain, it’s probably too late, but it’s not too late for other countries where we have exactly the same problems, including my country,” he said. “Looking at the causes of Brexit, we also find typically British reasons: the hope for a return to a powerful global Britain, nostalgia for the past — nostalgia serves no purpose in politics. In my country, too, some politicians still prefer to live in the past.”

And he said City of London rule-breakers and austerity also fueled the Brexit vote.

“Some based in the City of London voted to leave, as they don’t want to accept the Union’s regulations on their trading; they want to speculate freely and the Union doesn’t allow them to do so,” he said. “And most importantly, there are many people who feel abandoned. They feel that the quality of public services, health care, transport, is worsening. We must listen to these fears and address them.”

Nolte: Universal's Cancellation of 'The Hunt' Encourages the Next Mass Shooter

Universal’s decision to cancel The Hunt is just one more example of how our entire American culture is geared toward encouraging even more mass-shootings.

Sorry, it is not enough to not publicize their names — sorry, it just isn’t. That’s not what these losers want. What they want, more than anything, is to prove they are not losers, to prove they matter, and if the only way they can accomplish that is through mass murder, so be it.

So what does stupid America do?

Shooting after shooting after shooting we give these monsters win after win after win.

We prove that the monsters do matter, and worse, we inform wannabe mass killers, future mass-killers, those thinking about becoming mass-killers, that they too will matter, because America is guaranteed to freak out.

Politicians, from the president on down, freak out.

The media, desperate for ratings and to score political points against the right, freak out.

Hollywood celebrities on social media, desperate to pretend that they too matter, freak out.

And over a stupid movie called The Hunt, some on the political right, yep, freaked out.

The freak out is the shooter’s goal, y’all…

When these monsters lie in bed fantasizing about what their evil deed can achieve, it is all about the chaos it will cause; how it will command the news cycle, how it will consume social media, how they can cause Americans to give up their speech and gun rights, how this freak out will prove that the loser is not a loser.

We know this, and yet our entire culture continues to run advertisements for the next mass shooter: Yes, you too can be a success, you too can show the world, and all you have to do is write a nonsensical manifesto, pick up a gun, and enter your nearest gun-free zone! Tell him about the prizes, Don…. Ten days of 24/7 news coverage surrounding your manifesto worth $75 million! Our nation’s capitol beset by chaos! Yes, what you did — yes, you! — will be the focal point of social media… And, as an extra special gift, if you act right now, we’re throwing in the additional prize of getting a Hollywood movie canceled!

What are we thinking?

We canceled a movie in response to a couple of mass shooters who committed these mass shootings to prove they had the power to shake up the world.

Let’s assume, which I do not and did not when the news was announced, that The Hunt is exactly what its critics fear most — a left-wing fantasy where urban elites hunt and kill us awful rural, red state, bitter clinging deplorables… The hunters are the heroes doing God’s work because we deplorables are getting what we got coming…

Not for a moment do I believe that’s the case, but let’s assume it is…

So what?

This is the United States of America and in the United States of America you are allowed to make whatever art you want. And you finding yourself and your identity and your political beliefs at the wrong end of artistic freedom doesn’t mean that freedom shouldn’t exist. No one’s forcing you to go see it.

Well, it’s irresponsible to release a movie like this…

Maybe it is. But this is the United States of America and in the United States of America you are allowed to be irresponsible with your art.

Until you reach the tip of my nose, you can swing your fists however much you like in this country and art is no skin off anyone’s nose.

Do we really want to live in a country where we stifle artistic expression because some scumbag might use it as inspiration? Do we really want to give mass-murderers veto power over our art, over what we can and cannot say?

Listen, I’m as at-risk of being killed in a mass shooting as anyone else… But I would rather live with the risks that come with living in a free country than live in a simpering country in a constant crouch because if I say what I want to say or make the art that I want to make somebody might do something.

That’s no way to live.

Besides, you are much more likely to be killed by someone else’s car than someone else’s gun. So if your goal truly is the saving of human life, you’d be calling for a ban on automobiles long before you joined the mindless mob targeting guns and movies.

And shame on Universal Studios…

Shame on Universal forever…

Obviously, Universal is not worried about The Hunt inspiring mass shootings. If the studio was, they never would have poured millions of dollars into gearing up the publicity campaign (the production company is Blumhouse).

No, what Universal is caving to is THE MOB… The studio is caving to the cry-bullies on Twitter, the cry-bullies in the entertainment media, and the cry-bullies on cable news… They are tossing out a piece of art hundreds of people sweated blood to conjure, and doing so only because a handful of un-American virtue signalers terrorized them with shame, and did so for no good reason other than to prove they could.

Yes, I defended Sony’s decision to kill The Interview back in 2014. That was a completely different dynamic. Sony was under attack by a foreign government. It is not Sony’s job to fight a foreign power. That job goes to the government, which failed miserably.

Remember: it is the government’s number one priority to protect our rights and if a movie company cannot release a film safely in America, that is the failure of the government, not the movie company, and certainly not the art that company produced.

What we have with Universal Studios, though, is nothing like that. These squealing little studio gerbils not only surrendered their own rights, they added yet one more incentive, one more win, one more reason for why the next mass shooter will matter.

EU finance ministers adopted a revised blacklist for tax havens outside the bloc, overcoming Romania’s bid to postpone a vote to May.

The move triples the roster to 15 countries, including Bermuda, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Arab Emirates.

Romanian Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici, who chaired Tuesday’s ECOFIN ministers gathering in Brussels, told reporters beforehand that the Council likely would delay action.

Teodorovici’s comments left the finance ministers confused, tax officials told POLITICO. The Council had tentatively agreed on the list on Monday night with the intention of unveiling the full upgrade on Tuesday.

That left Teodorovici “totally isolated,” said one official at the ECOFIN, which discussed the blacklist behind closed doors. Even European Commission tax chief Pierre “Moscovici was surprised by the support,” another official said.

The new list holds American Samoa, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Dominica, Fiji, Guam, Marshall Islands, Oman, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. Virgin Islands, United Arab Emirates and Vanuatu.

Blacklisted countries face restrictions on EU funding and investments from the European Investment Bank. EU governments can choose to add their own sanctions against the blacklisted countries.

The Council first unveiled the tax blacklisting initiative in December 2017 with 17 countries.

Brussels backs ‘mend and make do’ for home appliances

As of 2021, firms will have to supply spare parts for TVs, fridges or washing machines for up to a decade.

By

Updated

Manufacturers will have to make home appliances easier to repair following Tuesday’s formal adoption of the Ecodesign package by the European Commission.

As of 2021, firms will have to make all TV screens and fridges placed on the EU market longer-lasting, and they will have to supply spare parts for machines for up to a decade. These products will also be made easier to recycle thanks to improved design and, in the case of displays, the removal of toxic flame retardants.

The measures — some of which are updates to existing rules while others are new — also apply to lighting products, dishwashers, and washing machines.

European Commission Vice President Jyrki Katainen said the measures “can save European households on average €150 per year and contribute to energy savings equal to annual energy consumption of Denmark by 2030.”

Environmental campaigners applauded the formal adoption of the new rules. Stephane Arditi, policy manager at the European Environment Bureau, an NGO, said they can help the EU to “deliver further savings for people while cutting carbon emissions and waste.”

However, campaigners for the “right to repair” complain that the current rules don’t go far enough as only professionals — not consumers — will be able to carry out the repairs.
