Joao Felix squares up to Lionel Messi in furious exchange as Atletico Madrid produce late comeback to stun Barcelona

The Atletico Madrid youngster bravely squared up to Lionel Messi in his side’s 3-2 Spanish Super Cup semi-final victory over Barcelona.

In some fiery scenes shortly after the referee blew for half-time , the 20-year-old appeared to complain about something to the Argentine superstar as they walked off the pitch.

The pair then appeared to exchange some foul-mouthed words before members of both teams rushed over to intervene as tempers boiled over.

In the match, Diego Simeone’s side came from behind to stun Barca and book their spot in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.

Atleti were heading for another defeat against the LaLiga champions with 10 minutes left at the King Abdullah Stadium, but goals from Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa turned the semi-final tie around.

The 3-2 victory was Atletico’s first win over Barcelona since April 13, 2016 and set up a derby showdown against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde would have been frustrated with his team’s late capitulation after goals by Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann put them on course for the final.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba mistakes ‘pee pee’ for apple juice during bizarre Instagram video after undergoing ankle operation

The French World Cup winner posted a series of video clips on his Instagram story after going under the knife, saying ‘everything went well’ during the operation.

Man Utd's Paul Pogba feels the effect of medical drugs after operation

Pogba had initially posted a video on Instagram in which he looked out for the count admitting: “I don’t even know if I’m OK or if I’m high or if I’m sober, just don’t ask me if it went well, I don’t know.”

He later deleted that post, where he also bizarrely mistook his ‘pee pee’ for apple juice, and replaced it with a shorter video.

“Everything went well,” Pogba said. “We have to keep the positive energy.”

Pogba, 26, is expected to be out for another four weeks after suffering his second ankle injury of the season.

The enigmatic midfielder, who has long been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, has made only eight appearances this season in a campaign blighted by injury.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains behind the former Juve man though, insisting he is going nowhere in the immediate future.

Speaking about the Frenchman’s future after the FA Cup third round draw at Wolves, Solskjaer said: “You won’t see Paul [Pogba] go in January.”

Aston Villa transfer news: Pepe Reina’s agent confirms former Liverpool goalkeeper will only join Premier League side if AC Milan sign a replacement

Villa boss Dean Smith has identified signing a goalkeeper as one of his main priorities in the January transfer window, following the recent season-ending ACL injury to Tom Heaton.

To make matters worse back-up stopper Jed Steer faces at least another two months out too as he recovers from a calf injury.

Smith still has a further three international goalkeepers on his books in Norway’s Orjan Nyland, Croatia’s Lovre Kalinic and Matija Sarkic of Montenegro, who was recalled from his loan at Livingston after Heaton’s injury.

Yet Smith is close to luring the former Liverpool no.1 back to England, following negotiations with the Rossoneri this week.

The 37-year-old, who spent nine years at Anfield from 2005 to 2014 and made 394 appearances, has featured just once for AC Milan this season, and 13 overall since moving to the San Siro in the summer of 2018.

As back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma, manager Stefano Pioli has made it clear to agent Manuel Garcia Quilon, following the latest round of talks, that Reina will only be allowed to leave once another goalkeeper is in place.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Quilon confirmed: “There’s no agreement. We continue to negotiate, but the Rossoneri would like to bring in a replacement first.”

It is understood the deal in place for Reina is a short-term six-month contract, with a year extension should Villa retain their place in the Premier League.

At present, Smith’s side are one place and one point above the relegation zone.

Harry Kane injury: How have Tottenham coped without their star striker in the past?

The Lilywhites are already having a pretty torrid season as it is but it has just gone from bad to worse with their talisman Harry Kane ruled out until at least April with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury during the 1-0 Premier League defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day and specialists advised an operation was needed.

It is the latest injury Kane has suffered in recent seasons and alarm bells will now be ringing for Jose Mourinho, who now has a huge task on his hands to get his side into the top four.

But how have the club fared without the England captain in the past? Here, talkSPORT.com has looked at the extent of his injuries at the club and how Spurs coped without him…

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley says lessons have been learnt from issues such as taxi incident which have marred his season so far

The Chelsea midfielder admitted getting caught photographed in unsavoury situations has been a ‘big lesson’.

Barkley made his first appearance in three months on Sunday, as the Blues advanced to the FA Cup fourth round with a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

It’s been a rollercoaster season for the 26-year-old already, who has irked boss Frank Lampard on several occasions.

Barkley was snapped dancing shirtless in a Dubai nightclub in the summer which although it didn’t look good – Chelsea weren’t massively concerned because he was on holiday.

The England midfielder was then caught on camera being escorted to a cashpoint by two police officers in September withdrawing money to pay a taxi driver after a late night row over spilled chips.

Blues chiefs were incensed, and Barkley has acknowledged that embarrassing incident is one that shouldn’t have occurred, vowing to curb his partying lifestyle.

“It is that 10 seconds when you are not looking like a professional when you have got to let your hair down but then you can’t forget about your job,” he explained.

“It was unfortunate of me to get caught in that position and it will happen many times to players because you know what phones are like nowadays. I am just keeping my head down and it won’t happen again.

“It’s a big lesson. You have got to be aware of your surroundings when you let your hair down for any player out there.

You have just got to be aware of what’s around you. It is just more about being with the right company and in private.”

He added: “When you play in the Premier League, you are a high profile player, so it is about keeping low-key and switched on.

“It is just nowadays that you have to be careful because everyone is wanting to catch you out.

“When you are on holiday or away you need the right people around you.

“I have made that mistake and it won’t happen again but I am sure it will happen to young players in the future.

“We all make mistakes but it is about being aware.”

Amazing Juventus XI of free transfers, as Manchester United’s Tahith Chong is latest targeted with contract set to expire

Over the last two decades, Allianz chiefs have sealed moves for some phenomenal talent without paying a pretty penny.

And talent-spotters at the Old Lady have reportedly pinpointed their next bargain signing in the shape of Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong.

Sports Bar team disagree over Ed Woodward's role in Man United's failings

Chong, 20, is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer and Juventus are willing to offer him a £35,000-a-week contract plus a £2million signing-on fee to bring him to Turin.

Should a deal materialise for the highly-rated playmaker, Chong would become the latest in a string of complimentary additions that have made their way to the club.

Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot joined in the summer from Arsenal and Paris-Saint Germain respectively, but the list of top class players who have joined the club for free is endless.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer press conference: Manchester United manager confirms possible Maguire return, provides transfer update on Young and Bruno Fernandes

The 26-year-old defender suffered a hip problem in last Saturday’s FA Cup meeting with Wolves and then missed Tuesday’s disappointing Manchester derby defeat in the Carabao Cup.

It was initially thought Maguire would also miss the clash against the Canaries, but the England international has responded positively to treatment.

“Harry has a chance for tomorrow,” Solskjaer said. “We will see how he trains.”

On the injury, Solskjaer added: “It was a minor thing, I don’t know where the reports are coming from, [reporters] might have mistaken it for Harry Kane.

“It’s not a surprise; he’s a warrior and if there’s a minor problem he’ll put himself up to play.”

‘Wan-Bissaka means Man Utd wouldn’t miss Young’ – Berbatov would sanction move to Inter

The former Red Devils striker has no issue with seeing the experienced performer leave, as the Old Trafford side already have adequate cover in place

Manchester United should have no concerns when it comes to sanctioning a move to Inter for Ashley Young, says Dimitar Berbatov, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka the “perfect replacement”.

It has been suggested that Old Trafford stalwart Young could soon be heading for the exits.

Serie A giants Inter are said to be keen on doing a deal for Young, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

At 34 years of age, the versatile performer who has spent nine years with United no longer fits the club’s mould when it comes to promising stars of tomorrow.

With that in mind, and with a £50 million ($65m) deal having been done for Wan-Bissaka last summer, Berbatov believes the time has come to let Young take on a new challenge.

The former Red Devils striker told Betfair: “The transfer window is open and already there is a lot of speculation flying around, the latest being the future of Ashley Young.

“When you start to change different players and you prepare to lose someone, you need someone to step up as a replacement.

“Wan-Bissaka has been outstanding, the way he defends, intercepts the ball and goes into tackles is great, and he’s still young so he has a lot to learn but he has already proven to be the perfect replacement, so if the club do sell Ashley Young to Inter, I don’t think they need to worry about it with Wan-Bissaka.

“I really like him and it’s great that United bought him, he has a bright future and now he need to stay concentrated, be persistent and work hard like every player.

“With the speed he has and the way he recovers the ball, you can really see how precise these details of his games are and if he continues this way I think he’ll be at United for a very long time.”

If Young is to leave Old Trafford, then he will do so with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still calling the shots.

Questions are being asked of the United boss once more, with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of a Carabao Cup semi-final tie doing his claims to an extended stay few favours.

Berbatov concedes that the Norwegian is under pressure, but has called for calm at a testing time for the club as a whole.

The Bulgarian added: “It doesn’t matter who is in charge, every manager in this position, producing the same results, is going to get criticised.

“It is the easiest thing in the world to do, everyone can criticise. Sometimes, you need to take it and try to figure out where you have gone wrong and sometimes it’s not necessary.

“The manager needs to stay positive and give that vibe that everything is OK and that he has it under control.

“I can imagine that Ole is angry at the moment and I’m sure he’ll show that in the dressing room, but sometimes you have to stay cool, professional and polite to show that you are in control of things.”

United, who sit fifth in the Premier League table at present, will be back in action on Saturday when they take in a home date with Norwich.

« Vieillir me plaît, à vrai dire.
