The latest news speculates he has now taken the decision to slash his wages demands in half to seal a £10million transfer to Old Trafford.

In the summer it was believed he wanted £300,000 per week but now he’s seeking just £150,000 to sign on.

A source at Man United told The Sun: “His reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands.

“There will be other bonuses factored into the deal. It looks like one that could get done now.

Napoli ‘expecting’ Manchester United to sign Erling Haaland in January after ‘pulling out race’ for RB Salzburg wonderkid

The teenage sensation has netted a staggering 21 goals in 14 games this campaign, and has previously played under Red Devils manager boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde.

And according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Italian club have pulled out a move for the 19-year-old as they believe they cannot compete with United financially.

When asked where the striker could end up, Napoli scout Loris Boni is quoted as saying: “Definitely in a great club. Salzburg, an excellent team, can only be a springboard for someone like him.

“If, then, his compatriot Solskjaer remains as coach at Manchester United, I think he can go there.

“Solskjaer was also the one who made him debut at Molde, as he coached the club at the time.”

Solskjaer allowed Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave for Inter Milan over the summer but he failed to replace the front-men, leaving him shorts of options up top this season.

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo admits ‘healthy’ rivalry with Barcelona star Lionel Messi has made him better

Both footballers have won the coveted Ballon d’Or on five occasions and many consider the pair to be two of the greatest players of all time.

Juventus striker Ronaldo spent nine years at Real Madrid before joining the Italian champions in 2018, and Messi recently admitted he believes they have spurred each other on to achieve more individual honours in the game.

The ex-Man United star has echoed the sentiments of the Argentine, telling France Football: “A lot of people said that we fed each other, that being together in Spain made us better.

“That’s certainly true. I felt his presence more in Madrid than in Manchester. It was a healthy rivalry. We were the symbols of our clubs.

“It’s always nice to be spoken of in a flattering way. It’s nice if they say I’ve been the best, a fantastic player.

Manchester United ‘spent years’ tracking Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang before opting to sign Romelu Lukaku

The Gabonese marksman has netted a staggering 49 goals in 77 games for the Gunners since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

And according to The Athletic, Arsenal were not the only club who had their eyes on the striker.

The report states the Red Devils scouted Aubameyang between 2016 and 2017, where he bagged 73 times in 91 games for the Bundesliga side.

It is believed Old Trafford chiefs were not convinced the forward could cut it in the Premier League, and also had concerns over his hefty £70m price tag given he was 30 at the time.

Marcelo Bielsa tactics: Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds analysed as Manchester United and Aston Villa transfer target Kalvin Phillips impresses

On the surface Leeds United should be the dominant side in the division. They have excellent balance in their squad between proven first-team players and talented youngsters and in Marcelo Bielsa they have the only genuine world-class coach in the division.

If you take a look at the advanced metrics at the time of writing then the concept of Leeds as the dominant force is only reinforced. In terms of expected goals (xG) and expected goals against (xGA) Leeds are dominant. These metrics suggest that over the course of the whole season we should see them finish in the top two or three.

Advanced metrics, of course, only tell part of the story as they give a more long term view. Despite a strong start to the season we have seen Leeds struggle in recent weeks.

Losses to Charlton and Millwall and draws with Derby and Preston have seen Leeds drop down from the top of the table.

Sheffield Wednesday promised to provide another test for Leeds in this match. After appointing Gary Monk as head coach Wednesday have developed into an extremely tough side to break down but that is combined with excellent finishing in transition.

Top 30 most valuable 2020 free agents, including Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool stars

Among the biggest are actually some of those set to be free agents in 2020 after allowing their contracts to run down.

At the moment Tottenham could lose three of their top star in recent seasons with Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, and Jan Vertonghen all set to enter the final six months of their deals.

Eriksen and Alderweireld were heavily linked with moves last summer but neither saw one materialise with the Dane receiving no offers, despite his undeniable talents, while the latter saw a derisory bid come in from Roma.

Both players still have huge value so any club either landing them for a bargain fee in January or for free in July will be getting a superstar on the cheap,

Unai Emery refuses to rule out stripping Granit Xhaka of captaincy after midfielder cups ears and ‘swears’ at Arsenal fans in Crystal Palace draw

Gunners supporters were frustrated after Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew goals cancelled out early strikes from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz.

Emery attempted to give Arsenal more attacking impetus by bringing on Bukayo Saka for Xhaka in the 61st minute.

The Arsenal captain was jeered off by home supporters and reacted by allegedly telling them to ‘f*** off’ before walking straight down the tunnel.

Speaking about the incident, Emery told talkSPORT: “He was wrong, he was wrong.

“But we are going to speak to him and then inside with the club. He was wrong.”

When asked if Xhaka would remain as the club’s skipper, Emery said: “We are going to speak about that with him.

“He was very hot in that moment and he was rash and he was wrong.”

Arsenal thought they had scored a late winner when Sokratis turned in Nicolas Pepe’s corner, but the goal was ruled out by VAR.

Emery, whose side are now four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, thought the Gunners deserved to win the game.

He added: “We can speak about the positive things and we deserved to win. We had the chances, the passion was good.

“We started well in the beginning with the goals, we controlled the first-half, not conceding chances, only the penalty.

Transforming Man Utd will be biggest task Mourinho's ever had – Neville

The former Red Devils defender believes the under-fire Portuguese is struggling at present because his side lacks balance and organisation

Jose Mourinho’s struggles at Manchester United have left him facing “the biggest task he’s ever had”, says Gary Neville.

The Portuguese has found himself in testing situations before, with Chelsea having parted with his services on two occasions in the past.

Mourinho is, however, unaccustomed to seeing his methods called into question on such a regular basis.

He is now firmly under the microscope at Old Trafford, with a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham on Monday leaving United to reflect on their worst start to a Premier League season in 26 years.

Pressure is mounting on Mourinho and Neville admits it is up to him to see an underperforming team through the other side.

He told Sky Sports: “The manager is always the one where the buck stops and Jose Mourinho has been the most successful manager in football in the last 20 years, along with Pep Guardiola, and he’s going through a difficult moment over a couple of seasons.

“This is the biggest task he’s ever had in his life in football and he’s got to come out of it.

“I look at the squad and the team and I’m not sure what the best XI is, what the best strike force is, I’m not sure there’s a back four there. You are just going to have to back certain players and go with them and stick with it, rather than changing it every single game.

“The buck stops with the manager and I have to say, at the moment, it doesn’t look a balanced outfit there at all.”

United did hold their own against Spurs for long periods before suffering a humbling defeat, with Neville suggesting that an inconsistent spell from the Red Devils is down to a lack of organisation.

The former United defender added: “Before the game we didn’t have a clue how Manchester United were going to set up and I’m not sure anyone would have picked that starting system.

“They may have worked on it in the last four or five days, but Tottenham are so consistent and so stable.

“With Manchester United, it’s like you could throw those balls [players] into a bingo machine and anyone could come out at any time. You don’t know where [Paul] Pogba is going to be or where Fred is going to be. [Ander] Herrera is centre-back and [Jesse] Lingard is all over the pitch.

“There’s only a couple of players where you know where they are going to be. There is such a disorganisation at times that they were always going to get beat once the game settled down, even though there was a lot of spirit in the performance.”

Real Madrid considering hijacking Mariano Diaz's move to Sevilla

The Spanish capital side will decide within 48 hours whether they will execute their right of first refusal on their former frontman

Real Madrid are giving serious consideration to re-signing Mariano Diaz despite Sevilla having reached an agreement with Lyon for the transfer of the striker, Goal can confirm.

It has been a quiet window on the attacking front this summer for the Liga giants, with only Vinicius Junior brought in following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit thus far.

Fans have called for further reinforcements since the Portuguese opted to swap the Santiago Bernabeu for Juventus and Los Blancos are now weighing up the merits of bringing Mariano back to the club.

One major pro to recalling the 25-year-old is a clause in Madrid’s agreement with Lyon that entitles Julen Lopetegui’s side to 35 per cent of any future sales of the player.

As such, with the striker valued at €35 million (£31m/£41m) Real would only have to pay around €23m (£20m/$26m) to re-sign their former charge, a comparative steal in the current market given the Spanish-born Dominican’s return of 21 goals for the Ligue 1 side last season.

Another advantage, aside from his relatively young age, is Mariano’s previous stint at the club, having spent six years in the Spanish capital and leaving a good impression on former boss Zinedine Zidane.

As mentioned, Sevilla had reached an agreement with Lyon for Mariano’s transfer at the request of head coach Pablo Machin, who is a big admirer of the attacker, but with Madrid having 48 hours to reach a verdict the Rojiblancos are now pessimistic that they will land their top target.

In the face of the recent developments, Sevilla have turned their attention to Girona attacking midfielder Portu, who has worked with Machin in the past.

Portu’s arrival would bolster the second line of attack behind any other potential centre-forward signings, or simply play provider to Wissam Ben Yedder, who would be likely to remain in Seville despite having one foot out of the door should Mariano have arrived.

Girona are likely to accept less than Portu’s €20m (£18m/$23m) release clause and have also been linked with a move for Sporting’s Seydou Doumbia should the 26-year-old leave for the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Richarlison called up to first Brazil squad after sparkling start to life at Everton

An injury to Fluminense’s Pedro has opened the door for the winger, who is yet to represent his nation at senior level

Richarlison’s fantastic start to life as an Everton player has been rewarded with a first call-up to the Brazil national team for the young star.

The 21-year-old winger arrived at Goodison Park from Watford this summer in a £35 million ($45.1m) deal, and wasted no time in announcing himself to his new fans.

He smashed both goals against Wolves in Everton’s first game of the 2018-19 Premier League, adding another the following week to help down Southampton 2-1 on his home debut.

And while a red card on Saturday while facing Bournemouth ended that encouraging run, he is set to feature for the Selecao in their upcoming friendly engagements.

“The Brazil coaching staff has called up Everton attacker Richarlison,” the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed in a statement.

“The player will form part of the team that will take on the United States and El Salvador on September 7 and 11.

“Richarlison will replace the attacker Pedro. The Fluminense player suffered an injury in his right knee playing against Cruzeiro in the Brazilian Championship, on Saturday.”

While Richarlison made 10 appearances for Brazil at Under-20 level, he has never appeared for the Selecao’s senior team.

He will now join a host of new faces in the United States in Tite’s youthful squad, which also includes Manchester United duo Fred and Andreas Pereira, new Barcelona signing Arthur and uncapped Flamengo prospect Lucas Paqueta.
