Chelsea vs Arsenal: Blues sell only 2,000 Europa League final tickets… and even sponsors are sending them back to UEFA

The spectacle, which takes place on May 29, will be held at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan – 2,500 miles and 20 hours away by plane from London.

Arsenal and Chelsea plan on returning over 6,000 tickets leaving UEFA facing major embarrassment, as the almost 70,000 capacity stadium would be nowhere near full.

The location and cost is proving a serious issue to supporters, meaning Arsenal and Chelsea have only managed to shift 3,500 and 2,000 tickets respectively, The Times reports.

Chelsea news: Blues ordered to pay Antonio Conte £9million in compensation following 2018 sacking

The Italian has fought to secure the full payment from the final year of his salary, with Chelsea countering his claim, by citing a breach of contract in his final year at Stamford Bridge, report The Times.

That payoff total will mean Roman Abramovich has paid out more than £90million in compensation to sacked managers since taking over the club in 2003.

Having won the 2016/17 Premier League in his first season at Chelsea, Conte then endured a turbulent second, falling out with a number of players, including axing striker Diego Costa by text, and senior executives.

Ashley Young backed to become new Manchester United captain after Antonio Valencia exit, Pogba and Smalling also in the running

Valencia rarely featured for United in his final campaign with the club, meaning the armband was instead worn by vice-captain Ashley Young who spent the majority of the season on the pitch.

Young was a trusted servant of Jose Mourinho, and Solskjaer kept faith in the 33-year-old when appointed caretaker manager back in December.

He played all but three of United’s Premier League matches under the Norwegian, and was handed a one-year contract extension earlier this year to keep him at Old Trafford until June 2020.

Supporters were not overly pleased with the new deal, and many are frustrated a club of United’s stature continue to play an ageing converted winger at full-back – something an elite club should not be doing.

The Gers skipper was involved in a staggering 37 goals this season from right-back, netting 17 times and creating 20 goals in all competitions.

The remarkable return puts him alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Eden Hazard on double figures for both goals and assists.

Nobody got more assists than Tavernier’s 14 in the Scottish Premiership, while only four players scored more goals.

However, he could not inspire the Gers to a trophy as they went crashing out of the Europa League in the group stages and Celtic won all three domestic competitions yet again.

But who are the players with the most goal contributions in Europe’s top five leagues this season, according to OPTA.

Christian Pulisic says it would be great to play alongside Eden Hazard at Chelsea despite Belgian’s links with Real Madrid

Hazard, 28, appears poised to move to the Bernabeu with the Blues reportedly willing to sell him for £87million this summer.

Chelsea acted in January by signing Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for next season in a deal thought to be in the region of £58m.

It’s been suggested the American international was bought in preparation for Hazard’s departure but Pulisic maintains some hope that he will play alongside Chelsea’s star player.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s James Savundra in London, Pulisic said: “I think anyone can play alongside him [Hazard], he’s a great player. It would be great to play with him absolutely. I’m going to come in and give it my best.

“I’ve been able to see on the TV what he’s done and he’s obviously a great player.”

When the Pulisic transfer was confirmed in January, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri claimed to have no knowledge of the deal until it was announced publicly by the club.

But Sarri’s 4-3-3 system should cater well to winger Pulisic’s strengths and the 20-year-old believes his and the Italian’s styles are a ‘great fit’.

Pulisic added: “Chelsea was a place I just couldn’t refuse. I watched Chelsea growing up and saw them have success in Europe and I always think of the team as champions.

“I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League and it feels like the perfect spot for me.

“I want to come in and make an impact as soon as I can. I’m going to work as hard as I can from day one to make sure I can do that.

“I think I’m going to fit in very well [into Sarri’s system]. It’s a very attacking system which will work great for me, on the wings and in great attacking positions. I think it’s a great fit.”

Pulisic arrives at Stamford Bridge knowing he will play Champions League football next season following Chelsea’s third-place finish in the Premier League last season.

There were a lot of negative moments in the 2018/19 campaign and Chelsea finished 26 points off title winners Manchester City and 25 points off runners-up Liverpool.

However, Pulisic believes there’s no reason why his new club can’t challenge for the crown next season.

He said: “People can say what they want but Chelsea had a great end to the season. They’re in the Europa League final and they finished in the Champions League spots for next season.
