Sheffield United: Newly-promoted Premier League side ‘funded by loan from Osama bin Laden’s family’

A battle in the High Court over control of the newly-promoted Premier League club is currently raging on, between co-owners Kevin McCabe and Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The latter’s legal team, led by Barrister Andreas Gledhill QC, accused McCabe of knowing a £3million payment to the club, which would allegedly never have to be repaid, came from ‘a member of the Bin Laden family’.

Prince Abdullah, a member of Saudi Arabia’s royal family, also argued that the loan would have to be paid back, the Sheffield Star report.

The loan became known at the club as Project Delta, but the investment opportunity appears to link the Bramall Lane club to Al-Qaeda’s founder and former leader.

Manchester United news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals what players he will target this summer

The Red Devils look set for an overhaul of their squad after an underwhelming sixth-place Premier League finish, in which they were a huge 32 points behind champions Manchester City.

Solskjaer, as has been the case in recent weeks, did not name any individuals on his hit list but identified some of the character traits he would prefer in anyone who will move to Old Trafford over the next few months.

He told United’s official app: “We’ve tried to educate our players and our kids to be proper people. In my view, the best players have always been the best people.

“You have to have that value system and a certain kind of attitude about you to make a Man United player.

“You have got to have the qualities and our fans want to see exciting players. Of course we want to get up from our seats. We want to see defenders who defend like they’re doing it for their lives – that’s the most important thing.

Former Manchester City and Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips calls for racist fans to be given life bans

The ex-winger, who retired from football in 2017 having finished his career in America with USL Championship side Pheonix Rising, insisted it is no easy task to manage racism in the game.

“To an extent I agree that the FA hasn’t done that much to tackle the problem of racism, but it’s hard to police racism for the FA,” Wright-Phillips said in an exclusive interview with AmericanGambler.com.

“How do they police it? Unless someone makes people aware of what has happened within a stadium, the FA would never know that it is happening.

“I would just ban the fans. I think it’s everywhere and it’s just whether it comes out or not – some people get ahead of themselves and it just comes out.”

Joe Gomez admits watching Liverpool’s ‘historic’ season from the sidelines has hurt him

Gomez, the defender, began the season as Jurgen Klopp’s first choice to partner Virgil Van Dijk at centre-back, while also providing cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right.

However, a lower-leg fracture sustained in a challenge with Burnley’s Ben Mee on December 5 – where he was expected to be sidelined for six weeks but a setback meant he required a second operation – delayed his comeback until mid-April.

As a result the England international featured just six times – with his only start coming in the 3-0 Champions League semi-final defeat in Barcelona – during the thrilling title run-in and progress to a second successive European Cup final.

The 21-year-old has admitted that was difficult to take.

“It’s probably underestimated a bit how much it can affect us as footballers,” he told liverpoolfc.com.

After knocking Manchester United off the perch from last season, Los Blancos are valued at €1.646 billion and are also recognised by the independent
brand valuation consultancy as the strongest football brand.

The home of LaLiga giants, the Santiago Bernabeu, is also recognised as topping the stadia performance chart.

Working alongside engineering and consultancy practice BuroHappold, the report aims to determine how football stadiums benefit the clubs based on three key aspects; Matchday Experience, Broadcaster and Partner Appeal and Match Impact.

By focusing on these three aspects (which encompass sound attractiveness and fan volume) BuroHappold and Brand Finance have developed the Venue Performance Rating (VPR) for each of the stadia in the Brand Finance Football 50 ranking.

A statement from the report details how having a superior stadium can have a huge impact on and off the pitch for clubs around the world.

It reads: “The evolution of stadium design over the past 15 years can be seen in comparisons between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

“The Emirates Stadium is still a strong performer, but the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rates higher in all categories. Tottenham’s score was enhanced further by its built-in capability to host NFL games, thanks to its sliding pitch.

“A superior stadium can ultimately bring on various positive outcomes, such as better on-pitch performance or more favourable sponsorship opportunities. This, in turn, influences brand strength and brand value.”

Atletico Madrid targeting Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette to replace Antoine Griezmann – reports

Barcelona were linked with the forward earlier this week but the Madrid outfit are considering a bid to prise the forward away from London.

Griezmann announced he would be leaving Los Colchoneros at the end of the season and Barcelona were immediately installed as frontrunners for his signature.

However, Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in the Frenchman and Atletico deal-makers are looking to get as much money as possible for their talisman.

According to French outlet Le 10 Sport, Arsenal have reportedly had an approach from the LaLiga club over a deal for Lacazette.

Chelsea: How Blues could line-up in Europa League final against Arsenal following Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s injury

The midfielder picked up an ankle injury during the Blues’ 3-0 win over New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

Ross Barkley scored twice either side of Olivier Giroud’s header in the victory in Foxborough.

Prior to the game, manager Maurizio Sarri expressed his concerns about travelling to the US so close to a major European final.

Chelsea play Arsenal in the final in Baku on Wednesday, May 29.

He did name a strong starting line-up for the match with the likes of Eden Hazard, David Luiz and Pedro all starting.

Loftus-Cheek was seen leaving the stadium in a protective boot and he is facing a year on the sidelines if the injury is as bad as feared.

The 23-year-old has played a key role in the Blues’ Europa League success this season and scored in the second leg of the semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has also been directly involved in nine goals in his past 15 competitive matches for the club.

His absence will be a big blow for Sarri in his preparations for the final, which is less than a fortnight away.

The manager is likely to be able to cope without starting Loftus-Cheek as he has only made six starts in the Premier League this season.

The England international has been a key impact player from the bench, though, and has netted six times in the league.

Another player Chelsea will be awaiting news on their fitness is midfielder N’Golo Kante.

The France international limped out of their final home game against Watford with a hamstring injury and missed the last two games.

Kante is expected to be fit for the final against Arsenal and he remained in London to receive treatment while his team-mates went to America for the friendly.

Here is how Chelsea could line-up without Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the Europa League.

There are unlikely to be any surprises for Maurizio Sarri’s side when they face Arsenal due to injury problems at certain positions and poor form elsewhere.

Centre-back pairing David Luiz and Andreas Christensen are his strongest with the injury to Antonio Rudiger keeping him out.

If Kante is fit then his is likely to play alongside Jorginho and Kovacic in midfield. Ruben Loftus-Cheek may have been pushing to replace one of those in the line-up had he not gone down with the injury but it will have made the decision for Sarri.

Ross Barkley scored twice in the charity friendly but he will likely be used from the bench.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek: Chelsea midfielder ‘facing year out with ruptured Achilles’ as Gareth Southgate confirms injury blow

The Blues won 3-0 in the United States but Maurizio Sarri, the club’s manager, was dealt a huge blow when Loftus-Cheek went down injured, and was seen leaving the stadium on crutches and in a protective boot.

And, according to The Sun, the England midfielder faces a minimum six months on the sidelines, with a ruptured Achilles potentially keeping him out for a whole year.

This means Loftus-Cheek will miss the Europa League final, this summer’s Nations League finals, and the start of next season.

Gareth Southgate confirmed in a press conference today that Loftus-Cheek was going to be in his squad for next month’s Nations League finals, but he had to call-up a replacement after waking up and seeing the midfielder’s injury.

“We will find out more about a couple of players in that period and then I am going to have to make a couple of decisions,” said Southgate. “But we can change if we have injuries after that date. Frankly there is every chance that is going to happen.

Manchester United news: Calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are ‘LAUGHABLE’, Danny Higginbotham tells talkSPORT

United capped a disastrous season on and off the pitch with an ‘unacceptable’ 2-0 defeat to relegated Cardiff City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A posse of pundits and unhappy supporters have called for Solskjaer’s head after seeing their side miss out on a Champions League spot and finish a huge 32 points adrift of rivals and back-to-back champions Manchester City.

But Higginbotham insists the club need to put an end to the short-termism that has reigned since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, and has urged the club and supporters to be patient as Solskjaer begins a long-term project to get United back to the top.

United have not won in more than a month. They have lost four of their last six games in all competitions, with their last victory coming against West Ham on April 13.

Their campaign is now over, and so Solskjaer can put his mind to the massive rebuilding job he has been employed to oversee at his former club.
