Next Chelsea manager odds: Frank Lampard clear favourite with bookmakers to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge

Even though he has led the Blues back into the Champions League, to a Europa League Final and to the Carabao Cup Final, Sarri’s position is under threat.

After arriving from Napoli last summer, the Italian enjoyed a terrific start to life in the Premier League.

But clashes with senior players and a looming transfer ban means the chances of Sarri enjoying a second season in Stamford Bridge are dwindling.

According to reports, club legend Frank Lampard is in pole position to take charge should Roman Abramovich decide to pull the proverbial trigger.

Lampard’s first season in management has seen him take Derby County to the Championship Play-Off final after a heroic effort by overturning a first leg deficit away from home against Leeds.

Despite his novice stature, the appointment of the 40-year-old as Chelsea boss would certainly sit well with fans.

But who else is in the frame to be the next Chelsea boss according to the bookmakers?

Iker Casillas: Porto goalkeeper and Real Madrid legend ‘retires from football’ after suffering heart attack

Casillas, the Real Madrid and Spain legend, has decided to call time on his career despite recently signing a new contract with the Portuguese club.

He has been offered a position in Porto’s backroom staff by Pinto da Costa, the club’s chairman, with the role understood to be some kind of ‘international ambassador’ to take advantage of his fame and media influence.

ABC claim Casillas will announce his retirement ‘shortly’.

The 37-year-old suffered an acute myocardial infarction earlier this month while at Porto’s training centre, with the glovesman rushed to hospital.

He quickly entered a stable condition, and admitted after leaving hospital he may return to football.

Tottenham vs Liverpool: Ray Parlour explains why Dele Alli should be DROPPED for Champions League final

Moura sent Spurs to Madrid with a sensational second-half hat-trick in Amsterdam as Mauricio Pochettino’s men staged a dramatic comeback.

However, talismanic striker Harry Kane could recover from injury before the final on June 1 – leaving Moura’s place in the starting XI under threat.

And Arsenal legend Parlour argues it would be ‘disgraceful’ to leave him out.

“I would feel a little bit hard done by,” he told talkSPORT. “I’ve just scored a hat-trick away from home to get Tottenham through to the final and then you leave me out?

“It’s a disgrace if they leave him out. To score a hat-trick in a game as important as that was at Ajax.

“You can’t leave him out. You’d have to leave Dele out.”

Manchester United verdict: Simon Jordan responds to Jose Mourinho’s ‘cheap shot’ at Solskjaer and says Woodward is ‘the bland leading the bland’

In his latest dig at the Old Trafford club following his sacking in December, Mourinho was quoted in Thursday’s edition of French publication L’Equipe saying ‘nice guy’ managers can end up becoming ‘puppets’ at their club.

“I don’t want to be the nice guy,” Mourinho said. “Because the nice guy, after three months, is a puppet and that doesn’t end well.”

His message has been interpreted to be directed at Solskjaer, who won ten of his first 11 games in charge at his former club, only for that form to dip dramatically after he given the job permanently in March.

Mourinho also said guiding United to second in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season was his ‘greatest achievement’ at the club and that now ‘people understand’.

Former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan criticised the Portuguese coach for his ‘cheap shot’ at his successor.

However, he also believes Mourinho was making a valid point about the hierarchy at Old Trafford and took aim at head honcho Woodward.

“I think Mourinho is a little bit cheap with that comment,” Jordan told Jim White on Thursday.

“But it think he’s sitting there basking in the reflective glory now that he was proven to be right – there is a disconnect with the players in that dressing room between what they think their obligations are and what they produce on the pitch.

Arsenal set to profit if Manchester City were banned from Champions League for breaching FFP rules

Arsenal would take Manchester City’s place in the Champions League should they be banned from next season’s competition.

Uefa investigators want Pep Guardiola’s side to be banned from Europe’s top club competition for a season if they are found guilty of breaking financial rules.

Chief investigator Yves Leterme is set to make a recommendation this week on what their punishment should be.

Should City be banned from the Champions League for a season, it would open the door for fifth placed Arsenal to be handed a place in the competition even if they lose the Europa League final.

The Manchester club are accused of ‘several alleged violations’ of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations when Uefa announced its investigation in March.

According to emails published by German magazine Der Spiegel, City allegedly hid at least £70million in funding from its owners by claiming it was sponsorship income.

The club are believed to have been accused by Uefa of providing ‘unconvincing’ explanations over their finances.

City have continued to refute the claims and released a statement questioning the integrity of the Uefa probe after a New York Times report claimed they will be suspended for a year.

Their statement said: “Manchester City FC is fully cooperating in good faith with the CFCB IC’s (Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body Investigatory Chamber) ongoing investigation.

“In doing so the club is reliant on both the CFCB IC’s independence and commitment to due process; and on Uefa’s commitment of the 7th of March that it ‘…will make no further comment on the matter while the investigation is ongoing’.
